Chapter Twenty-Three
~Rhys' POV~
I landed on Pandora in a daze. I broke the glass with my cybernetic arm and jumped out of the pod.
"Nnngah! I finally had it back..." A voice rang out.
"Jack..." I muttered. I wandered through the debris of Helios looking at signs that used to decorate the halls of it. Eventually I made it to another piece of glass and smashed it as well. Then I had to maneuver through a car so I wouldn't get smashed by rubble. Almost to the source of the voice, I passed through a space in the debris which collapsed after I went through. I was almost smashed by one of Jack's statues but dogged in time. Then I saw Jack.
"God d-d-d-dammit. You know, I really liked that sp-sp-space station," Jack said as I walked up to the scene.
"Oh Rhys, you absolute dick. Look what you and Chase have done. I built this place with my own two hands and a few other expendable people," Jack said and glared at me.
"Just die already." I clenched my fist.
"Oh and Chase, don't get me started on her. She ruined me! After you escaped, she went back to the core and ripped it to pieces. I couldn't transfer to anything. She messed up my whole escape plan!" Jack yells.
"Where is she?" I ask.
"Her dead body is floating in space. I know because I saw the poor thing get sucked right out of Helios once she completed her mission," Jack answered.
"There's no way she's dead," I said in denial.
"Oh, still in shock? Deal with it! Your sweetheart is dead. Now, no one cares about you. Just. Like. Me," he laughed. Then, a device is plugged into my ECHO-eye and I immediately pull it out.
"No no no!" I shout. I looked towards the screen and saw Jack was gone.
"Ah, back inside your head...." Jack appeared in front of me.
"Now I know how to get rid of you." He took control of my cybernetic arm and started strangling me.
"You...won't win..." I said. An idea came to mind and I stabbed my arm through with a piece of sharp metal that was behind me. It was painful and I lost quite a good amount of blood. Now Jack had no control over my arm.
"Congratulations, kiddo. You get to live another day...but what about tomorrow? Or the next day? Cause I'm not going anywhere. As long as you have those cybernetics in you...I'll be sitting here waiting for my chance to take you out." Jack turned around and faced the other way. I found a piece of glass and knew exactly what I wanted to do with it.
"All I need is time! One day--when you've forgotten all about me--I'll take over your body and skin you alive with your own two hands," Jack said. That's when I started to remove the rest of my cybernetics with the piece of glass. Jack suddenly fazed in and out.
"Wait wait wait wait wait -- w-w-what are you doing? What the-- Rhys, what the hell are you doing?!" I ignored Jack and was just about to take out my ECHO-eye.
"No-no please, please! Please, don't do this!" Jack begged. I kept quiet the whole time.
"No Rhys, you-you don't know what it's like!"
I kept pulling the eye out. Now Jack was even more desperate.
"Please...Hey! HEY! I'm on my knees here. There's nothing...there's absolutely nothing there.....don't do this," Jack whined.
"Goodbye Jack." I yanked the rest of the eye out and he disappeared. I crushed the AI in my hands and then I fell unconscious. Before I fell into complete darkness, I saw a beam of light.

"After I came to I grabbed the rights to Atlas on Pandora from Jack's office....figured I could use it to build something. A fresh start. At that point it made made sense to head back to the Atlas facility we left...got it going again. Luckily it was well stocked...a whole lotta fruit. Fixed myself up. Worked on some prototypes. I even tried to make another AI like Chase," I stared at the scenery while telling my side of the story.
"Were you successful?" The stranger asked. I also saw that Fiona was wanting to ask the same thing. I casted my eyes down.
"No. Every time I would try, the whole system would crash and fry the AI," I said.
"Did you not use the same coding?" Fiona asked.
"Chase had a unique coding. I never wrote it down and it...disappeared along with her." Sadness started to set in. Every time I talk about her, it just...breaks me. Then the stranger asked Fiona about Gortys. In the end, we lost Chase and Gortys.
"Get going!" Someone yelled.
"Who's that?" Fiona asked. The stranger got up.
"What's going on?" I ask confused.
"A debt needs to be repaid." That's the only thing he said.
"Get down there, fool!" Kroger yelled and pushed someone down on the ground.
"Yo, man. You didn't tell me this dude'd be holed up in a bandit camp. The whole damn place was comin' after me," Kroger said and looked at the stranger.
"You seem fine," he replied.
"I mean I lost 'em. But I wouldn't stick around here too long, just a matter of time 'fore they come through."
"I'll take my chances."
"Whatever.... Oh, look here, we Fiona and her corporate chump. Look at you, all wrapped up like birthday presents."
"Last I remember you couldn't wipe your ass without someone's permission," Fiona smirked.
"Man, you just don't stop, do you? I'm here for my own business, thank you very much. Look, I brought you your bandit boss. We gonna make the trade or what?" Kroger glared at the stranger.
"Whoa, what deal?" I ask.
"Two for one. Can't beat that." The stranger said and stood aside.
"They ain't makin' it outta here. This is personal." Kroger pulled out a knife and grabbed Fiona.
"Hey! You can't let him do this!" I yell.
"Any last words?" Kroger asked.
"Yeah, that mustache doesn't work on you. I think people in your life know that but won't tell you....which is sad," she replied.
"Shit talker 'til the end. Ya know, I can respect that." He raised the knife above Fiona's head.
