Chapter Twenty-Six

~Chase's POV~

"Enough of the haiku bullshit. You give us straight answers when we ask you a question," Rhys said to the stranger.

"You're supposed to be good cop," Vaughn whispered with crossed arms. Rhys looked around the room at the three of us.

"Are you sure?"

I rolled my eyes and sighed. Suddenly I was called for by one of the ex-Hyperion workers. I helped her assemble a small aircraft that would be used to travel across Pandora incase we needed to. A few minutes have passed and I decided to head back upstairs to see how the interrogation was going. When I entered the room, I gasped. This grabbed everybody's attention.

"Loaded Bot?" My eyes were wide with shock. Loader bot's body was the endoskeleton Jack tried to place inside of Rhys.

"Hi," Loader Bot casually greeted me. He filled me in on his plan about reassembling Gortys and killing the Vault Monster.

"I can reassemble Gortys in no time," I said confidently. Rhys, Fiona, Vaughn, and LB nodded.

"While you reassemble her, we'll find a few extra hands for this mission. We're gonna need all the help we can get," Fiona said.

After a few minutes of thinking, Fiona finally chose three other people to help us. As I began to fix Gortys-- Rhys, Fiona, and LB left to get our allies with the flying aircraft I helped with earlier.

Hours pass and I finish fixing Gortys. It was a little more difficult than I thought it would be. That's also when the others returned with August, Athena, and Zero. Loader Bot and Vaughn caught all of us up on the mission. We learned about the Traveler and its ability to teleport. That's also when Sasha walked in.

"Hence the name Traveler," Vaughn said as he finished. Fiona, Sasha, and I would be taking the Caravan and setting the charges inside the Traveler. As our meeting adjourned, Vaughn asked if Sasha needed to hear any more of the plan. She told him she heard enough of the mission to understand her part in all of it. Everyone left except Rhys and myself.

"We should help prepare," I said as I started to go help Loader Bot. Before I could leave, Rhys wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me close.

"Rhys," I whisper his name. This made him hug me tighter. He rested his head on top of mine.

"Just... just give me a moment," he said softly. I wrapped my arms around his back and hugged him in return.

"I thought you had died when Helios exploded. That feeling when you pushed me into the escape pod without you, don't make me feel that ever again. And don't say you're replaceable. No program or person could replace you."

"Rhys... you're going to make me cry." I clung tighter to him.

"Hey, I'm just telling the truth," he said. Even though I couldn't see his face, I could tell he was smiling. We heard someone clear their throat. I stopped hugging Rhys and turned around in his embrace. Vaughn was standing there, watching our exchange of words and hugs.

"Rhys, you can have Chase all to yourself after we kick the Traveler's ass. I need her help at the moment," he said with a slight smirk. Rhys groaned and reluctantly let me go. I kissed him on the cheek and went with Vaughn.

Hours pass and we're finally ready. We head to our destination and ready ourselves to fight the Traveler. Once we arrive not far from base, I place Gortys down gently. Rhys was the first to speak.

"I'm sorry... about Gortys."

"Yeah," Fiona said in a soft voice.

"Unneeded. I know it is not your fault. You two are still imprinted on her core. It must be made whole again." LB handed Fiona and Rhys the piece of Gortys' core they touched when we found it. They made the core whole again and Rhys placed it inside of Gortys.

"Um..." LB stared down at Gortys. Rhys glanced at me and I smirked.

"Give her a moment. I've modified her and it'll take a few seconds for all of it to activate."

After I finish speaking, Gortys finally activated. She was in her final form and looked ready to fight. She immediately saw and greeted us.

"Whoa! Hey guys! What're you doing here?" She asked in her cheery voice. As she said that, the Vault opened. The Traveler stepped out of the Vault and began approaching us slowly.

"Oh no... not again," Gortys said sadly.

"Get to your positions! We don't got a lotta time!" Fiona shouts to all of us. Rhys grabbed my arm before I could go with Sasha and Fiona. I smiled to reassure him.

"I'll be fine. I won't make you feel the same pain as you did on Helios." His eyes widened at my words. His grip loosened and I ran to the truck. I hopped on and Sasha floored it.

"Bye, Chase," Gortys said as I left her view. I couldn't help but laugh.

"I can't believe we're doing this. Do we got this? We got this, right? Because I'm kind of driving us towards a really big thing that wants us dead," Sasha said.

"Hell, I feel bad for the monster," Fiona said confidently.

"It'll be just a pile of rocks once we're done with it," I said, smirking at the Traveler. Sasha and Fiona's worry washed away after my comment. We eventually reached the Caravan in one piece.

"I checked it out last night. She's solid for one last ride," Sasha said as we hopped out of the truck.

"The only good thing Felix ever gave us."

"I don't know... I'm pretty happy with my gun," Fiona said as she looked at Sasha.

Suddenly we heard a strange sound and saw Helios shoot a moonbeam at the Traveler.

"That was not part of the plan," I mumble. I quickly contact Vaughn as Sasha and Fiona listen closely.

"Vaughn!" I shout.

"Okay... so... I might've screwed up. Please don't be mad at me. I totally jumped the gun there, uh... yeah. My bad. Everyone makes mistakes, right?"

"We'll yell at you later. Prepare another shot," I said. Suddenly I got a call from Rhys.

"Guys, I've got a problem. Gortys doesn't want anything to do with this. She's scared." I glanced between Sasha and Fiona. They had no idea what to do.

"Rhys, make sure Gortys can hear me," I said.

"She can."

"Alright. Gortys, we need your help now more than ever. I know what happened last time with the monster and Vallory. Don't be afraid. We're all here with you. We're not here for what's in the Vault. We're here so you can live in peace. We are your friends and will always be."

There was silence for a few seconds until Gortys finally broke it.

"Alright. I'll do it. But Rhys has to drive." I was a little confused at her words. We heard Rhys yell and then he went quiet.

"We'll leave Gortys to you, Rhys," I said with a smile.

"I'll do my best," he replied.

The three of us hop in the Caravan and wait for Rhys to get the Traveler into position. Once he did, he told us to go. Fiona started the engines and we headed straight for the Traveler's teleportation gland. Once inside, Fiona and Sasha blacked out for a few seconds.

"Did... did we make it?" Fiona asked as she opened her eyes.

"Yeah. We're inside the monster right now," I said. We got the charges and left the Caravan.

"Let's blow this thing to hell."
