Chapter Ten
~Chase's POV~
Atlas robots have now surrounded us. Vasquez put his gun down and carried me under his arm. I still couldn't move my body.
"Where are you going?" Sasha asked.
"Away from here," Vasquez answered. He started running to the entrance but was stopped when a robot flew in his path. He screamed like a girl and ran for cover. He threw me down behind him and started shooting wildly. Then, I saw Loader Bot with Rhys in his arms. He was trying to pull Rhys into two pieces.
"Ow! Ow! Ow!" He yelled.
"I'm sorry," Loader Bot said to Rhys. Fiona jumped on Loader Bot and broke something that was attached to his head. It must've been part of why he was being controlled by Vasquez. When it snapped, he was back in control. He put Rhys down and smacked a robot out of the air. Fiona threw the receiver at Vasquez and it hit him in the face.
"MY FACE!!" He screamed. He stumbled back and away from me. Rhys ran to me and picked me up in his arms.
"How do we get you back to normal?" He asked me.
"Smash the universal remote that Vasquez has," I replied. Vaughn heard this and broke free from the man who was holding him down.
"I saw the remote fly out of his pocket! I'll go and smash it!" Vaughn ran over to the remote and smashed it with his foot.
"Oh yeah!" He cheered. Now I could move my body freely again. Rhys put me behind cover.
"Hhnnnggg!" I heard a weird noise. I peaked from behind my cover and saw a dart protruding out of Vaughn's neck. Fiona was looking at him with guilt.
"Vaughn, buddy, are you okay?" Rhys asked. Only strange noises left Vaughn's mouth. A robot started shooting at them. Rhys and Fiona joined me behind the statue.
"Loader Bot! Get Vaughn!" I commanded. He immediately stopped what he was doing and picked up Vaughn. He threw him in front of us.
"He's paralyzed. He can't move," I said and removed the dart from his neck.
"Hhngh!!" Vaughn said.
"Do you think he's okay? Is he still breathing?" Rhys asked.
"I-I'm sure he's fine! Right, Vaughn?" Fiona said nervously. Vaughn just made random noises.
"We need to find a way out," I said.
"But how?" Sasha asked. I quickly peeked over the side of the statue's base and looked at the exit. Then, an idea hit me like a truck.
"Loader Bot, can you push the statue down?" I asked.
"Yes," he responded.
"Sasha, do you have a gun Fiona could use?" I asked her. She stood up from the cover and shot a nearby enemy, killing him quickly.
"There," she said as the enemy with gun fell right beside Fiona.
"What do I do with this?" She asked.
"Aim it at the statue's legs and destroy them. With that, Loader Bot will have an easier time pushing the thing down. Do it quick!"
She didn't question it and put the metal thing she was holding in Rhys' hands. She picked up the gun and started shooting. Within a few shots, the statue's legs were broken and Loader Bot pushed it. The statue gradually fell forward and killed some enemies. The stone ball on top broke off and killed even more enemies.
"Well, that went better than I expected," I said. Loader Bot picked us all up and flew out the entrance.
"Oh, great. More people," I muttered.
"Loader Bot, pull u-" Fiona was cut short when they fired a cannon at us and hit Loader Bot. We all flew off of him. I landed next to Fiona.
"You okay?" She asked me.
"Yeah. You?" I asked. She nodded. A woman I've never seen before approaches Fiona and I. She offers both of us a hand, but we don't take it.
"I would take all the help you can get because you're going to need it," the woman said. We both stood up and brushed ourselves clean.
"You the leader of this outfit?" She asked Fiona. We both looked behind us and found Rhys talking to the paralyzed Vaughn.
"Both of us are," she said and put an arm around my shoulder.
"Cheeky," the woman said.
"Well, well, well. If it isn't you?" A man with a weird haircut and some green stuff on his face walked towards us. Another man was behind him.
"You're the one who did this to me, remember?" The man asked.
"Of course she remembers," the man next to him said.
"No, should I?" Fiona said. I smirked at her.
"Oh, burn! Good for you, girl. Some interesting last words," his friend said.
"Why you!" The man was about to attack Fiona.
"Enough Finch," the woman stuck her hand up to signal him.
"Come-come on! Just one punch!" He begged her.
"Finch. Kroger. Wait in the truck!" She demanded. Both Finch and Kroger headed back to the truck.
"Who is she?" I leaned over and asked Fiona.
"Vallory," she answered. Then, August and Vasquez ran out of the entrance.
"And we have two new contestants," Vallory said.
"Oh, this is not good...." Vasquez muttered. August was the first one to speak up to Vallory.
"Okay. Okay. I...know how this looks. Things got a little messed up, but I-"
"Shut up. I'll deal with you later," Vallory said while cutting off August.
"You two, tell me who did this," Vallory asked Fiona and I.
"I just wanna say I had nothing to do with this," Vasquez said. Vallory stood between both of us and put an arm on mine and Fiona's shoulder. She guided us away from August and Vasquez.
"They're going to say me...." Vasquez murmurs.
"Uh huh. Who's to blame here you two? I want a name," Vallory said. Fiona exchanged a glance with me. We could either blame Felix, August, or Vasquez, but we already knew who we wanted to point at.
"Vasquez..." We both said in unison.
