Trough the eyes of children
Prompt of childrensfiction
Sally holds her chin on the back of her hand and her shiny eyes peer out of the large window, where it's been raining for at least a couple of hours. In this time the atmosphere is transformed and it is easy to imagine adventures belonging to other worlds. She would like to be a fairy and pull out magic dust from the dew drops that settle on the leaves; outside, it is full of plants and small flowers with which to experiment concoctions and potions. Romeo, for his part, lies on the floor staring at the ceiling. He is one of those who do not imagine anything and suffer in the days when you can not run out to play football. Still, Mom was pretty clear... they don't leave the house in this bad weather. Inside there are always the usual things: a half-broken gameboy, puzzles assembled and disassembled a billion times, Sally dolls with hair cut and painted. Even the computer that Mom uses for work, whose password is not a secret, is unusable without the power that is blown. It all seems so boring and already done that even complaining is overrated.
"Has the rain stopped?"
"No"
"And now what?"
"Not yet,"
They've only exchanged one sentence in a time that seems endless.
"Where are you going?" Ask Romeo, seeing the older sister suddenly get up.
"I don't know, somewhere looking for something to do," replies Sally.
The bathroom, in which they have already entered twice, has blue tiles with the edges of a rather dull canary yellow; the bathroom fixtures only ivory and a mirror cabinet contains a series of scented products.
"Do you have to pee?" Ask Romeo.
"What's that got to do with it," Sally says with a laugh, "I want to go up there."
"Up there where?"
"There," he says, pointing to the skylight on the ceiling.
"And what is it?"
"I don't know yet, but I want to find out"
For a moment, staring at that glass door has become the most interesting thing in recent times. On the other hand, it's been a long time since they stopped to observe with their noses up. To be in front of phones just stand with your eyes down.
"How do we get there?"
"Let's take the ladder"
Their eyes glow with complicity.
To raise the ladder, with four strong hands, requires considerable effort.
Sally's the first one to get on it, she seems pretty determined even though she's not usually allowed to do this kind of thing.
The ringing of the drops on the glass is a persistent sound.
The hook that allows the glass plate to get up opens with a loud CT scan, leaving Sally's eyes wide open, and further down those of Romeo, while looking ecstatic inside. With calm and attention Romeo also climbs all the steps. An attic, also with glass, allows to look from above the whole city.
