Chapter 35
Ryan's POV
Tammy's birthday. Her 13th. It was odd. It'd been a little over five years since she was taken. And we never forgot her. Why would we?
Other things went smoothly. Julia and Thomas' wedding was a success, Darren and Bianca were happy... everyone else was happy... why couldn't we be? Why couldn't we just have our baby girl back? Why did everything have to change? Why?
I looked out the window and watched as the leaves fell from the trees. Anthony walked next to me. "Thinking about her?" he asked. I nodded. Anthony took my hand and led me outside to the orange and yellow scenery. We just played around in the leaves like little kids. Anthony made a crown out of leaves and placed it on my head. "It's not exactly a flower crown, but..." "I love it," I said, and tackle hugged him. We laid in the leaves and grass for a while, until Anthony found my hand and held it tightly. I smiled. Anthony ran his fingers over my wedding ring. "I love you," he said quietly. "I love you, too," I said.
After we went back inside, I got a text from Ella to group.
E: Hey guys! You need to check this out!
R: What is it?
E: It has to do with Tammy! I found her in an old newspaper!
A: SHOW US
Ella then pulled up an article. Apparently her birth parents were famous where they lived and she was dragged to every event they had. In the picture she was in, she was wearing a shirt that said, "MY NAME IS TAMMY" in big block letters. Anthony looked at the picture in awe. "That's our girl," he said fondly.
A: She must've made that shirt herself! Proud father right here!
R: Ditto.
J: Aww!
T: She looks upset, though.
R: No surprise there.
Anthony's POV
Ryan was still obviously upset about Tammy. I had tried everything I could to make him genuinely happy again, but nothing seems to work...
Ryan's POV (again)
I sat down at my table and started making random notes. I was barely conscious of what I was writing... I just needed something to get my mind off Tammy.
I heard the doorbell ring. "I got it!" I called to Anthony.
I opened the door. A girl was standing there, holding a rabbit. She was wearing a plain gray t-shirt, jeans, and had a bag next to her. I immediately recognized her face. I hadn't seen her in person for five years. "TAMMY!" I shrieked, and hugged her tightly. "Hey, Dad..." she said quietly. "ANTHONY, COME HERE!" I said, and heard his footsteps shuffle down. As soon as he saw Tammy, he attacked her with a hug, too. "Tammy... you dyed the ends of your hair green..." I said. "You said I could get it done when I was thirteen. And today's my thirteenth birthday..." she answered.
I hugged her tighter. "Dad... are you crying?" Tammy asked. "Why wouldn't I be? I haven't seen you in five years and you're safe and in our arms again and... oh, Tammy, look at you... you're beautiful..." I said. "You still look just like Ryan," Anthony stated. "How'd you even get back here?" I asked.
Tammy hesitated for a second. "They told me... they didn't want a daughter with cancer... do I have cancer? Is that true?" Tammy asked us. Anthony and I looked at each other. I nodded slowly. Tammy shook her head. "That doesn't matter. I was glad they didn't want me. They're not my family. You are," she said, and hugged us again. Francis hopped out of her arms and hopped around the room, clearly excited.
"We love you, Tammy."
"I love you guys, too."
