Tammy's POV

I can't wait to start going to school with Connor and Joseph! They're both really nice! And I like their mom, too! I was half-asleep in Dad's arms when I heard her say, "Tammy really is a saint. You two are so lucky to have her." I smiled all the way home.

A couple days later I was drawing a few pictures when I heard Papa talking to someone on the phone. He sounded mad.

"I don't want you to come over here! I have enough to deal with as it is," he said. Silence. "No, please don't...." more silence. "Alright. Fine.... bye."

I wondered who Papa had been talking to... and why he sounded angry. "Papa, who was that?" I asked him. "You'll find out in a matter of time..." he answered. After a while, I was running around the house when the doorbell rang. Papa quickly rushed to the door and opened it. There was an elderly woman at the door. Well, she didn't LOOK old, but she immediately said, "Anthony, you've got quite the nerve, not talking to your mother for years." 

"How am I supposed to talk with you if you never answer me back?" Papa asked. "Papa, this is your mom?" I asked. The woman gasped at the sight of me. "How precious! She's absolutely adorable! Who's the lucky woman?" she asked. "Lucky man. Tammy's adopted," Papa answered. "Oh? Well where is he?" "He should be on his way home right now," Papa said.

Right on cue, Dad walked into the house. He looked at Papa, and then at me, and asked, "Anthony... why is your mother here?" "She wanted to visit... which I am surprised at... " Papa answered. "Oh, this is your husband?" she asked. Papa nodded. "He makes me the happiest man on Earth, Mom," he said. Grandmother (I suppose) smiled. She picked me up. "And who'd you say this angel was again?" she asked. "Tammy, short for Tamara," Dad answered.

We soon found out why she came to see us.

She died two weeks later.

The doctors said she had a heart failure.

Papa said he had mixed emotions about her death...

It was then that I got scared that I might die early...

What if I'm going to? What if Papa and Dad have been hiding something from me?
