Chapter 24

Narrative (3rd Person POV)

Ryan and Anthony ended up naming their child Tamara Matilda Ell Johannson, after the protagonists from Ellsworld. She was only two years old, and she was like she solved all their problems. Ella, Thomas, and Julia were ecstatic when they found out the couple had adopted a child.

Tamara, or Tammy, was a creative child, and she was interested in art, coloring, and reading. For each birthday, her fathers took her to a trip somewhere, to remind her that she was their gift. Tammy was the light in her fathers' eyes. Nothing could go wrong as long as she was around

Until she was seven.

"Dad, Papa," she groaned, walking into the living room, where Ryan and Anthony were sitting together. "Yes, sweetie? What is it?" Ryan asked. "I'm... not feeling well," Tammy answered. She did look a little sickly. Tammy told her fathers what was happening. Dizziness, fatigue, fever, and weariness. Ryan and Anthony looked at each other with uncertainty. "I... that sounds bad. Should we take her to the hospital?" Anthony asked Ryan, who nodded.

The hospital took Tammy in. Anthony and Ryan waited outside, on their toes. When her doctor came outside, he said, "I'm sorry, but your daughter... she's been diagnosed with leukemia." (If u don't know what that is, it's a type of cancer.) Ryan felt himself start to shake. "We were about to tell her, but we wanted your consent first," the doctor continued. "No. We'll take it from here. Thank you," Anthony said, making sure he stayed calm. "She has a 27% chance of survival. I just thought I'd let you know," the doctor finished, and Ryan's legs went numb. He held onto Anthony for support.

Tammy's POV

The doctors at the hospital used a kind of sleeping gas on me. When I woke up, I was in the car, and it was dark outside. I heard Dad and Papa talking, and Dad sounded really upset. "-and she's only seven! She's just a kid, Anthony... what are we going to tell her?" he asked. "We'll tell her when she's old enough to understand what's going on," Papa responded. "What?! But you know how she is! I don't want her to worry, what if she can't cope with it? I can't cope with it!" Dad said back, and he sounded choked up. "Please, stop crying, and just listen to me. She's too young to have to be upset over this kind of thing. And if you keep this up, I'll start crying, and I want to be there for both of you, Ryan," said Papa. He almost never called Dad by his name, he'd always use a nickname. I sat up. "Dad... Papa... what are you guys talking about?" I asked. "It's nothing you need to worry about now. Go back to sleep, Tamara," Papa answered. He NEVER calls me Tamara.

"Papa, what's wrong?" I asked. "Just... please, go to sleep," said Papa. He parked the car at a random park, where he and Dad got out to continue their conversation. I looked out the window. I couldn't hear what they were saying, but it was clear they were arguing, and Dad was crying. They got so loud to the point I could hear them yelling, even though I still couldn't make out any words. They started shouting at each other. After a bit, they stopped, and they hugged, well, more like Dad was leaning on Papa's shoulder, but both of them were crying now. Was this all connected to me?

I decided to try and rest. When we got home, I tried to sleep myself, but I couldn't. I walked into Dad and Papa's room. They were cuddled together. I didn't want to make them even more sad, so I left.

The next morning, I got up, got myself dressed, and I walked down to where Dad and Papa were. Dad was in tears again, and Papa was trying to comfort him. "Pull yourself together!" Papa yelled and smacked Dad across the face. I gasped. It all looked like it was going downhill until Dad kissed Papa firmly and said, "I needed that. Thank you." "Ewww, kissing," I scoffed, causing them both to laugh.
