Kane Chronicles: Ruby's Death

Word Count accourding to Wattpad: 1010. Hi! I'm going to try to update once a month and on characters birthdays. So this is fast and dialogue heavy (especially towards the end). Sorry. Most italics are Ruby's thoughts and underlined are Isis' (not much of her though). If you wanna poke the star and the follow button and leave a comment you can. On with the oneshot!

"It's going to be dangerous, Ruby! I don't want you to get hurt," said Julius Kane.

Ruby smiled sadly. "I have to do this, Julius. We need to set the House on the right path. We need the gods. I will risk my life to make this right." Julius knew there was no deterring her. He sighed.

Ruby took shook her head and took Julius' hand.

"Now we need to open this thing," Ruby said looking over at Julius. "You're the best person for this." All of the sudden, Ruby clinched her eyes shut and put her hand on her head. Julius gave her a hug, knowing that it hurt whenever Isis was talking. "She...she said we need to go on."

Julius smiled. "Something we already know." Julius let go of her and started to chant. A few minutes later, the duo heard a small voice talking to them.

"Did you come here to rescue me from my cage or did you come here to rescue Ra's little kitty?" Julius continued chanting and Ruby said nothing. "Oh dear, you came to recuse Bast, didn't you? I'll let you, with a price."

"No! We didn't come to bargain," Ruby yelled. "Now, you will back off or else I'll show you where snakes like you belong!"

"I heard that so many times in the past couple of eons. I'll leave you to rescue Bast, mortal."

"It's ready!" Julius grabbed Ruby's hand. "If I don't make it⏤."

Ruby glared at him. "You will make it."

Julius kissed her. "I love you."

"I love you too." Ruby began chanting while Julius reached into his bag and pulled out his iron staff, ready to protect his wife at all cost. He could barely hold his staff and his heart wanted to burst out of his chest.

He was completely and utterly terrified.

And so was Ruby. She knew feelings could kill a spell and tried to control her fear. Then a spike of pain wont through the middle of her head.

You are using up your magic reserves!

I know, but I have to do this! Can you leave me alone, I'm kind of in the middle of a spell.

Merge with me, we can do this together! And take over the world!

I don't want to take over the world! All I want is to make sure the world is a better place than I entered it! This a start. And if I lose my life over it...So be it.

Very well. Don't say I didn't warn you.

The pain vanished, but a new voice spoke to her. "Thank you for freeing me, but the expense of magic that it took...if you want to live, we need to merge out power!"

"Bast,"Julius asked. Good, he can hear her too. Ruby's said the final word and spell was done.

"Just like what I said with Isis, Bast, I'm not going to do it!"

"Ruby, please. " Julius looked at her and knew her answer. "No...No, you can't do this!"Ruby began an short, but intricate shielding/sealing spell with tears going down her face. At the last word of the spell Ruby fell. "Ruby!" Julius ran over and touched her but hissed and drew his hand away.

"Isis is keeping me alive for a bit longer, love."

Julius shook his head. "Pet names?"

"Well, this is it. Tell Mum and Dad not to be too harsh on you, it's my decision. Tell Carter and Sadie that I love them with all of my heart and that I know they will become powerful magicians. Julius, don't temp fate."

"I know you don't want our children to know anything about this part of their life, but they have to know, they have do magic! I love you. I'll see you in the Duat." With that, a blue wisp flowed out of her. Ruby Kane became ash. Wind picked up and carried her across the Thames.

The blue wisp was still then it flowed into Cleopatra's Needle.

"Ruby..." Julius looked at the Needle. He started crying silently. Why was it her, he thought Why wasn't it me?!

Julius knocked on the Faust's door.

Mrs. Faust opened the door. "Julius."

"Catherine." Julius wiped a few pesky tears running down his face.

"Where's Ruby?" Catherine glared at Julius.

"She's...d⏤. "

Mr. Faust yelled from the house, "Get on with it!"

"She's dead!" A sob escaped Julius' lips. Catherine looked like she got poked in-between the eyes.

"This isn't funny Julius!" Mr. Faust appeared behind Catherine. "Now tell us where she is!"

"She b-burned up. Too much magic. Rub-by⏤."

"Don't say her name!"Catherine just broke from her shock.

"She wanted me to tell you that it was her choice and to no-ot blame it on me!"

"Leave!" Catherine glared at Julius. He gently pushed Mr. and Mrs. Faust aside and walked to the attic.

"Daddy!" Carter and Sadie ran up to him.

 "Where's mom,"Carter asked.

"She's dead. All because if your father." Mr. Faust sneered at Julius.

"It was her decision, Sadie, Carter. She wanted me to tell you⏤."

"LEAVE, JULIUS!"

"That she loves you."

"Take your boy and leave."

"What?"

"You heard me! We don't want any memory of my daughter's murderer in this house!."

"Sadie, Carter. Pack up your things. We'll be in a hotel tonight."

"Dad," Sadie said,  "What's going on?"

"We are heading back home tomorrow."

Carter asked, "Without Mom?"

"Without mom."
