~Summer before The Titan's Curse~
"No!"
"Annabeth, please," Luke pleaded. "He's going to take over my body. We go get Thalia, it can be like the old days again! Us against the world!"
"Luke," Annabeth said calmly. "Leave before I skewer you." Luke shook his head with tears in his eyes.
"Please. If you won't go with me, then kill me." Luke sobbed. "I just didn't want to be a pawn in the game! I don't want to be a pawn in the game!" He let out a few more sobs.
Luke wiped his eyes. "He's going to use me Annabeth. I ran away from Camp Halfblood because I wanted my mom to get better, I wanted to be free! It was all..." Another gut-wrenching sob. "Lies. Myths. Everything!" Then Luke had a steely look in his eyes and his scar turned dark. "If...if I become Kronos, stay the Tartarus away from me! I won't be able to control myself and...I'll hurt you. And Thalia. And Chiron. And Percy."
Annabeth looked like she got poked in between the eyes. "Don't you ever, ever say anything about Percy! Leave don't come back!" Annabeth desperately tried not to cry. "Luke, you made the wrong choice. You choose Kronos over me." Stubborn tears streaked down her face.
Luke said in a small voice, "I choose Kronos because of you."
"Don't," Annabeth growled, "Don't give me any of that bullcrap! You choose him because you wanted an easier life, the easy way out! Well, buck up, Luke! You're a demigod, NOTHING is going to be easy." Annabeth shook her head, furiously wiping her tears. "I hate you."
"Annabeth..." Luke spluttered.
"I HATE you. Actually, no, I love you, but not enough to take your life. You were a great brother untill you turned. Goodbye Luke."
"Annabeth..." Annabeth slammed the door in his face. "Love you too, sister."
~Tartarus: When Percy and Annabeth met Misery (The House of Hades)~
Annabeth looked up from rummaging in her backpack trying to find something to defeat Misery. What is he doing? Annabeth's eyes widened. She ran up to the edge of the cliff, afraid that if she took a wrong step, Percy was going to turn on her.
"Percy," Annabeth called. "Stop..." she pleaded. Percy looked back at her. His ocean-green eyes were dark with power and misery.
He wasn't Percy anymore. He was a monster.
Annabeth knew Percy wanted this goddess to pay, but she couldn't let that happen even though Misery tried to kill them. "Percy, please..." She pleaded. Her eyes were brighter than normal, accented by fear and the paleness of the Death-Mist.
Percy turned to the goddess. The poison receded and formed a path on the edge of the cliff, almost creating a waterfall.
"Leave!" he bellowed.
Akhlys turned around and ran faster, way faster than Annabeth could have guessed for a goddess in her situation. When the goddess was gone, the poison evaporated leaving an ugly scorch mark in the hell. The plants faded away to dust and blew away into the sky.
Annabeth stumbled towards him. Percy looked like a corpse wreathed in smoke, but Annabeth could still grip his arms as tightly as she could.
"Percy, please don't ever..." Her voice broke in a sob. "Some things aren't meant to be controlled. Please."
Percy looked scared. Scared of what's inside of him. Scared of himself. "Yeah." He said. "Yeah, okay." As soon as he said the last word, something inside of him healed.
"Promise," Annabeth pressed.
"Promise."
"Akhlys said something about feeding us to night." Annabeth released her grip on Percy. "What do you think she meant?" The temperature dropped. The abyss before them seemed to exhale. Percy clutched Annabeth's arm and backed away from the darkness as a presence emerged from the void―a form so vast and shadowy, Annabeth knew her boyfriend was thinking the same thing as her, I understand the concept of dark for the first time.
"I imagine," said the darkness in a feminine voice as soft as coffin lining, "that she meant Night with a capital N. After all, I am the only one."
A/N I did use lines from an illegal copy of the book I found on Google. Sue me.
~Thirteen years later~
A cute bundle of joy swaddled in a hat and a blanket was placed in Percy's arms. "Hey, cutie!" The small infant was asleep, occasionally waving her little fist around. "I'm going to name you Lucille. Not a stupid name, yet nothing that reminds of anything I don't want to remember."
Percy poked her nose softly, but Lucille woke up wailing.
"Shh, Lucy, shh." Luckily, Lucy quieted quickly. Her blue eyes were wide and mouth was turned down in a frown. A strand of Lucy's barely visible blonde hair strayed from the small hat.
"I guess we all know who has the stronger genes," Percy chuckled. He walked over to the hospital bed and put his hand underneath the white sheet covering his wife and grasped her hand. "Annabeth would be so proud of you Lucille."
Happy birthday Annabeth! You've been through so much like holding the sky, Luke, the exchange program, Tartarus, and Uncle Rick's old official art to name a few. I wish you many happy birthdays, you deserve them. I may or may not have copied that off of my Instagram, sue me.
