Best Friends
Best Friends
Maya repositioned her blanket for like the millionth time, trying to get it perfect as she looked at herself in the view finder. "Are you sure you can't tell I'm pregnant?"
Riley rolled her eyes as she flopped down next to her best friend on the nicely decorated bed in Maya's teenage bedroom. "Yes, even without the blanket you can't tell. You just look bloated or as if you've gained a few pounds."
"Jeez, thanks," Maya said, taking her turn to roll her eyes.
"You are just now starting to pop out. I'm pretty sure I was already a size of house when I was nineteen weeks."
Maya frowned, staring at herself in the view finder. "I'm just going to slip on one of Josh's shirts, so I'm less paranoid."
"Okay," Riley said, watching her best friend pull a suitcase from under the bed and taking out one of her uncle's hoodies and slipping it on over her tank top before adjusting her now dark hair ponytail.
"Are you ready?" Maya asked, getting back comfortable and readjusting the blanket before handing Riley her glass of wine.
"I guess," Riley sighed, taking a sip. "What if we get a question I'm not comfortable answering?"
"Then we edited it out," Maya shrugged, looking over at her anxious best friend. "We don't have to do this if you don't want to."
"I know," Riley breathed out. "And I want to. I'm just nervous."
"Don't be," Maya eased. "You don't have to answer any question you aren't comfortable answering. I'll edit it out," she promised, taking a sip of her grape juice in a wine glass.
"Okay," Riley nodded. "I'm ready."
Maya gave her best friend a small smile. "I'm just going to begin explaining a little of what is going on since this is my first video back that wasn't prerecorded or a quick sponsored video that I promised to do, then we will go in to our Q&A, and remember no mentioning my baby. I'm not going to say anything about my pregnancy until Josh is better and I can do a video with him to announce it."
"Okay," Riley nodded again.
Maya took her remote pushing record before beginning her video. "Hey everyone!" she clapped her hands together. "It is so good to be back and recording a video. I know I've been away for a while so let's just address some things first. Like my hair! Yes, I did go dark, but don't worry if you hate it. I don't need your little comments telling me how much you hate it and how I look better as a blonde. I do plan on going back blonde. I just wanted to give my hair a little break so don't worry. Now, obviously," she said, gesturing around the room. "You probably noticed, I'm not at my home. Me and my hubby are staying at my parents during his recovery, so you will be seeing me having little set up throughout their place, and speaking of my hubby, I wanted to thank you guys for your endless love and support and prayers for Josh and for your understanding of why I've been gone for so long. It has meant the world to me...I don't want to cry," she stopped herself, fanning her eyes when she felt herself start to get emotional as Riley rubbed her back, supporting her best friend. "It has been a long hard month with the accident then right when Josh was going to get out of the hospital he caught a case of pneumonia while in the hospital and had to stay in the hospital a little longer but Josh is finally "home". He's been "home" for about two weeks now and I know he is going to want to tell you guys thank you himself when he is ready. Right now, he is still recovering and focusing on that, but he is getting better every single day. He's been amazing and so strong, and is actually enjoying watching some kind of sports thing with my dad right now, so sorry if you hear some yelling in the background."
"And I wanted to add in we all do appreciate your love and support you have given Maya and Josh. It has meant a lot to not only to them, but to me, and the rest of their entire family and friends. Reading some of your comments has meant a lot and kept hope alive," Riley added as Maya nodded.
"Okay," Maya breathed out. "Now that is out of the way we are here to do the Q&A I asked you to send questions in forever ago and I rudely forgot to introduce you to this beautiful lady next to me for the ones who don't know her. This is my best friend and niece Riley," Maya teased, causing Riley to roll her eyes. "So now let's get this thing started. Can you tell it's been awhile since I filmed?" she asked the camera before looking at her phone. "Okay, the first question comes from Britneyxoxo and it's for you and she wants to know how does it feel to have Lucas back home after he has been gone for so long?" Maya read the question, before looking over at her best friend.
Riley paused for a moment, "It feels amazing. I'm happy to have him safe and home," she answered, before stopping and looking over at her best friend. "But can I be real?"
"You can be as real as you want to be," Maya laughed.
"I'm so happy Lucas is home, so I hope this doesn't come across wrong, but right now we are adjusting to him being back home and coming to a new routine. I got use to doing things on my own, and we went from one kid to two kids while he was gone, and we had a routine down and now that he is home it's a new routine, and we all are still trying to figure things out. Like, while he was gone I did little things that now that he is home we don't do, like for an example I let Penny sleep in our bed with me while he was gone and now we have to get her use to sleeping back in her own bed and it's been a little more tough than I thought it would be, but we are getting there. I'm just so happy to have my husband home and be a family of four."
Maya gave her a small smile, knowing things have been a little rocky for her best friend, "She also asked how was it having all of your friends back? And I'm going to assume she is talking about when we all got back together and welcomed Lucas home, because I don't think we've all been together at one time since then."
"We have the best friends in the world."
"We do," Maya agreed.
"I didn't know if everyone was going to be able to make it, but the fact that we all did was amazing. The look on Lucas's face when he saw everyone was there was priceless, because it is hard to get all of us together sometimes. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Normally, we will be missing one or two. We kind of were missing one because we have someone new in our group. Zay's girlfriend, Corrina, she unfortunately couldn't make the trip, but her and Zay did come a little after I had Aussie and I got to meet her then, and she is the sweetest."
"I haven't got to meet her yet," Maya admitted, pouting her lip out. "I can't wait to meet her though. We just keep missing each other. Josh and I had a trip planned, so we had to leave before they got in to town to meet Aussie, and she couldn't make it for Lucas's return and now with the accident we just haven't met yet."
Riley nodded, "But I believe she is the one, so we might be having a wedding soon. Maybe two," Riley nodded her head towards Maya. "We are trying to get her and Josh to set a date to renew their vows."
Maya shook her head, "I refused to renew my vows," she corrected. "My wedding day was my wedding day and that's it. I've already caved in and agreed to do a party-more like a reception and wear the white dress and have a bridal party, so my mom can have those picture, and maybe Josh and I will say cheesy things to each other so it will be like we said our vows, but I'm not renewing my vows and I refuse to do it on my actual wedding day, but I don't know when. I feel like the timing is never right whenever we start to pick a date to do it. There is always something going on or something happening. Like you were pregnant and Lucas got deployed then I'm too busy to plan and Josh is focusing on schooling and now my baby-"
"You can't say baby."
"Damn! I'll have to edit it out, but seriously I don't want to look like a whale if I'm going to do this."
Riley chuckled, rolling her eyes. "I think you would be a beautiful pregnant bride."
"Not bride."
"Oh my God-"
"Well."
"How about we set a date right now."
"Someday."
Riley rolled her eyes again, "Next question."
"Okay," Maya grinned. "This come from LolaG and she asked how many boyfriends did we have before getting married? I only had one. Josh was my only boyfriend," Maya answered, before looking at Riley.
"I had two. Lucas and then Lucas I broke up for a little during Sophomore year and I date another guy before getting back with Lucas."
"I forgot all about that."
"That's because you were too busy with Josh," Riley teased.
Maya's mouth dropped opened before she stuck her tongue out at best friend and going to find a new question.
"Okay, the next one comes from Bianca_Williams, and this question is also for you. She wants to know what do you love about me being on YouTube and what do you hate about me being on YouTube?"
Riley bit her lip as she thought about her answer. "I'm going to say besides seeing you do what you love because that is what I love the most. I love you love your job, so besides that, it was when I wasn't in the city and I got to see my family through your vlogs. It was like I was still with you guys even though I was in a different city. It was always a highlight of my day to get to see my family and I love we will be able to look back at your videos and relive these memories."
"Me too."
"The thing I hate is the hate you get from I guess the trolls or haters in general. I hate that you get judged on the littlest things and talk bad about. You don't deserve the crap people say about you or your marriage or whatever they are commenting bad on about, and I know how much it hurts you to see people talk about you."
Maya gave her best friend a small smile before giving her one arm hug and resting her head on her shoulder for a quick second.
"This comes from Stella2002, how has your friendship changed since you both have gotten married? And who is our best friends outside of each other."
Maya titled her head to the side, "Hmm, I mean things have definitely changed over the years, because we have to do adult things now, but I don't think our friendship has changed that much because of us being married. I think we just have someone else in our lives that is there for us, but we still have each other too. My best friend outside of Riley is Charlotte. Some of you guys who have been around since pretty much the beginning may remember after Josh and I got married we lived with roommates and I became really close to her. The four of us had a blast living together."
Riley nodded, "Yeah, and I think because both us found our partners young in life, so they have always been there, and they both know how important our friendship is to each other and respect it. Neither one of them has ever tried to stop our friendship. Both of our husbands have always supported our friendship."
Maya also nodded, "And Riley talked about how her family had to adjust with Lucas coming home, and I think that's what we did when I first got married and then when Riley had Penny. We adjusted our friendship, but still made sure we stay close."
"Yep," Riley smiled.
"The next question comes from Princess_sized who is so sweet and always leaves nice comments on my videos and she wants to know how do Josh and I keep our sex life so hot after being married for so many years," Maya laughed reading the question.
"Oh my God," Riley said, shaking her head and rolling her eyes at the question as Maya tried to compose herself from laughing so hard.
"You guys," Maya addressed her viewers through the camera. "Josh is Riley's uncle and I don't think she will appreciate me answering that in front of her."
The two best friends looked at each other and busted out laughing. "I feel like we are teenagers again having a conversation we wouldn't want our parents to hear," Riley said, covering her mouth.
"Well at least your dad isn't in the other room with your husband," Maya laughed. "Okay, let me just say this," she began again, trying to get serious as she looked back at the camera. "I still enjoy spending time with my husband and being with him. We still have fun together, and we have a relationship that is more than just husband and wife. He is the person I go to no matter what I'm feeling or needing and he is always there for me. No matter what. He is the person I turn to and I'm still madly in love with him and you've all have seen how sweet, funny, amazing and what a kind person he is, and let's not forget how good-looking he is, so it's easy and we still love showing each other how much we love each other. I'm just going to say I'm a very, very lucky gal in lots of ways."
"That's about all I want to hear," Riley grumbled.
Maya chuckled, playfully rolling her eyes. "She also asked what is one of our favorite memories of our friendship?" She looked over at Riley. The two sat quiet for a moment thinking through all of the memories the two shared before Maya finally broke the silence, looking back into the camera, "This is hard because there are so many, but the first one that pops into my head is when we were younger and I'm not going to go into great details, but lets just say it involves me thinking I was a bad ass and some statues and a wake up call. I think that was a changing moment in my life because I realized I had friends who loved me and cared about me and this girl right here was the main one," Maya smiled as she nodded her head in the direction of her best friend. "That day made me realize I would never be alone because she would always be at my side."
Riley returned her smile before replying with her favorite memory. "I think for me it is the day you and Josh got married."
"Really?" Maya asked, surprised.
"Yeah," Riley nodded. "I just remember we went to dinner after you two got married, and I was sitting there thinking oh my god my best friend is a married woman," she laughed causing Maya to laugh too. "It was just such a huge moment not only in your life, but in our friendship because it was a changing point. I wasn't the most important person in your life anymore and it didn't bother me like I thought it would. I just remember feeling so special because I was one of the ones that you chose to share that day with and getting to witness yours and Josh's love was special."
Maya smiled remembering the best day of her life so far, and also remembering getting some of the same emotions. "I get what you mean I kind of had some similar thoughts when you had Penny."
"It's crazy how far we have come in our friendship."
Maya smiled. "It is. Okay, let's do one more question, of course it's the baby question. We had so many people ask the baby questions and the most asked questions were if Josh and I are going to have a baby anytime soon and how many do we want to have? For Riley, does she want to have any more kids? You can never escape the baby's question on a q&a."
Riley laughed, before answering, "I don't think I want any more kids. Lucas and I planned Aussie because we wanted our children to be close in age and we have one of each, so I don't see us having anymore."
Maya nodded, understanding. "Josh and I have pretty much the same plan. We definitely want our children to be closer in age, so they have a play buddy, so once we have one we definitely want another one like a few years later. I want to get the first one you know? At least potty trained, talking and walking and all that good stuff before we have the other, but we don't want to wait too long because I was an only child and while Josh has siblings they were so much older than him because like he is closer in age to Riley his niece than any of his siblings, so in his household while growing up it was like he was an only child, so we both want our child to have a sibling close in age but not too close because like let me see how I am with one then we will bring the other one in."
"And when are you going to start having those babies?" Riley grinned, teasing.
Maya rolled her eyes, smiling, "Soon," she answered, causing Riley to laugh. "Okay, that is all the time we have for today. I'm sorry we didn't get to everyone's questions, but maybe we will do this again in the future," she said, looking over at Riley who nodded. "I'll see you guys in my next video. Bye!"
Both Maya and Riley smiled and waved to the camera.
"That was fun," Riley said, once Maya stopped recording.
Maya gave her a slight smirk, "I knew you would enjoy it."
"Yeah, yeah," Riley smiled. She let out a huge sigh and pouted her lips out when she looked at the time. "I really don't want to go back home."
Maya frowned, looking over at her best friend. "You and Lucas still fighting?"
Riley slowly nodded. "There is so much tension between us, Maya," she admitted, softly. "It's almost unbearable. I hate the way I feel, and I wish I didn't and I could continue to support him, but I can't, and we are faking we are okay in front of Penny, but I'm not sure how much longer I can live like this. If I had somewhere I could go, I would pack up my kids and leave tonight just to get away and think about things."
Maya's eyes went wide at what her best friend just confessed. She knew Riley and Lucas were having a tough time in their marriage at the moment, but she never guessed it was this bad.
"I hate telling you this because I know you have so much on your shoulders with being pregnant and Josh-"
"Riley, stop," Maya cut her off, resting a hand on her shoulder. "You are my best friend, and you have been here for me and I want to be here for you too. That's why, I'm going to give you this," she told her, standing up and walking over to her purse and taking out her keys and finding a specific key and taking it off before walking back over to Riley and taking her hand to place it in it causing a confused look to overcome Riley. "If you really feel you need to leave...this is the key to mine and Josh's apartment."
Riley stared down at the key. "Maya-"
"You need a place to go, so I'm giving it to you. You can go there and stay while you figure things out."
Riley kept staring down at the key before looking up at her best friend.
Maya nodded, closing Riley's hand over the key.
Can you sense some drama coming? Please leave me a review with your thoughts and what you will like to see! Thank you!!
