25. First Date
Wow! Almost 500 reads. Thank you loves! This is a slightly longer chapter. Enjoy ;)
First Date
I entered the house, surprised to find several pairs of shoes at the entrance. The loud chatter that followed into the living room confirmed my thoughts. The whole family was over.
"How was work honey?" Mama asked as I entered in the kitchen searching for food.
"Work?" I asked. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Shane give me the eye. Ohh. Well at least the bitchass covered for me. "Yeah, work was good." I took out a bowl of grapes from the kitchen.
"Thing four!" Enzo screeched walking into the kitchen.
"Thing two!" I replied in the same manner. My excitement fell short when he grabbed not one, not two, but four grapes. He grinned, plopping it into his mouth.
"Fuck off," I muttered, shielding my body from his.
"How come Mariana doesn't get a number?" James asked, shoving a grape into his mouth.
"Because apparently, I don't have another half. I don't know, their logic is messed up," Mariana commented, walking into the kitchen, stealing a grape as well.
"What is up with you guys stealing my food! You know, that's why we never gave you a number," I said narrowing my eyes.
"I think it was because she moved out at that point, so we kind of forgot about her." My twin said.
"I don't want to be part of your cult anyways," she joked.
"Good," I said, slapping away James sneaky hand.
"This is why I like Julian better than all of you imbeciles. He never dares to take my food."
"What's going on here?" Speak of the devil and he shall appear.
"Thing one!" I screeched, placing the bowl onto the table and jumping onto his back.
"What are you doing?" He laughed as I wrapped my arms around his neck.
"I was just saying that—" I cut myself off when Julian walked over to the table, eying up the big bowl of grapes.
"These grapes are good," he muttered, taking a couple more. I jumped off his back, stomped over to the bowl and snatched it.
"What's wrong with her?" Julian asked, biting down on the juicy grape.
"Beats me," his twin muttered.
"I—you all just—" I was very frustrated.
"So what movie are we watching?" Papa cut me off. "Oh, those look good," my mumbled, taking the last few grapes left in my bowl.
"That's it!" I yelled. "You and you and all of you!" I pointed to each of every individual who was guilty. "I didn't even get one single grape! You are all just—ugh!"
Papa looked around, confused. "Did I do something?"
"Yes! I am going to get my own of bowl of fruit and chocolate, and NONE of you are going to even breathe in the direction of the food." I whisked around, searching the cabinets for chocolate. Cabinet after cabinet, but I still couldn't find it. I knew it was somewhere here.
"Is someone going to tell her?"
"I don't think we should," I heard Enzo whisper, not so quietly.
"Good idea," Julian muttered. I didn't turn out, but I knew they all left the kitchen.
I groaned in frustration. There was no chocolate. I held the fruit bowl close to my body, storming into the living room.
"Who the fuck ate my chocolate?"
"Amelia!"
"Sorry father, I meant, chi cazzo ha mangiato la mia uva?" Papa shook his head. "Well?!" I questioned again to my brothers when no one answered.
All three looked away, all with guilty expressions. Simultaneously, they all pointed at each other.
Enzo gave Julian a nudge. With some quiet exchanges, Julian finally spoke.
"It was me. You know with the break up and everything..." He said in a flat tone. I narrowed my eyes at him. Playing the break up card. Smart. But I wasn't buying it.
"Bullshit," I crossed my arms across my chest. Mariana and James snickered from the other couch.
"Amelia!"
"I'm not lying!" He was totally lying. I gave him a look. "Okay, fine, it was Enzo and Shane!"
"Wow so much for that brotherly love," Enzo said shaking his head.
"So much for an older brother. Isn't that what you're here for? To take all the hits for us?"
"Just for that, I'm going to pick a horror movie," I smirked, sitting in my seat I proclaimed as my own years ago. Shane and Enzo both attempted to hide their fear, but obviously failed.
"Good going," Julian chuckled.
I perked up as the delicious aroma of pizza filled the room. "Pizza!" I grinned excitedly, taking a box for myself. Mama also handed me a bag from a grocery store. "What's this?" I opened the bag to find chocolate. I grinned.
"Where's mine?"
"And mine?"
"Weren't you two the ones who ate her chocolate?" Mama scowled.
"Is there anything else coming in?" I asked, taking a bite of my hot cheese pizza.
"What more do you want?" Enzo retorted, grabbing a slice for himself. Absentmindedly, I noticed Shane picked up a pepperoni slice. I kept my smug smirk at bay.
It was as if time turned in slow motion. He brought up the greasy slice to his mouth, taking a gigantic bite of the pizza, including the pepperoni. I didn't celebrate until the food was swallowed.
"Yes! Wohooo!" I cheered, prancing around the living room. "Hell yeah!" Everyone looked at me as if I'd grown a third limb, but I didn't care.
"Guess who won yet another challenge!" I didn't directly speak to Shane, I refused to. Shane's face immediately paled, eyes widened. "That makes me the winner, again."
"No! I didn't! I didn't see it!" He was trying to convince me, but I clearly wasn't listening.
"Alright! Pay up," Julian grinned. Enzo and Mariana grumbled, both taking out two tenners, handing one to each James and Julian. "Guess who's twenty dollars richer!" He reached over to high five James.
"You guys bet on us?" I asked in disbelief.
"We do this every month," Julian retorted, pocketing his earning.
"And you two bet on me?"
"And a very good choice at that too," James grinned.
I looked over to Shane, who still was shook. "I can't believe I did this. I was so close. So close." I rolled my eyes.
"And what about last month?" I turned back to Julian. "Who bet on me with the ice cream?"
"I did," he answered proudly. "I was the only one. And guess who was three hundred bucks richer at the end. I don't know why those idiots always bet on the other idiot."
"Why didn't anyone stop me from eating the slice?"
My mouth fell open. "You're telling me, you bet on the two of us, and won three hundred bucks, but we make no money?"
"That is correct," Enzo piped in.
"I demand my share of the winnings!" They simply laughed, shaking their head. I knew they wouldn't give me anything. Selfish bastards.
"How could I have not seen the pepperoni?"
"Did you know they were betting on us?" I questioned our parents.
"Who is to say we don't do the same?" Papa retorted. "Except it's not technically money, it's the loser who pays for the next date," papa laughed.
"I cannot believe all of you place bets on Shane and I. This family just keeps getting more interesting everyday."
"I lost again," he groaned.
"Speaking of interesting..." Mariana spoke, exchanging looks with her fiancé. He gave her a reassuring nod, grabbing her small hand in his. "We have something to tell you."
This perked my interest, and I turned to face her as did everyone else.
"I'm... pregnant," she breathed out, following with a gigantic smile. I couldn't stop the gasp from leaving my mouth and the tears from pooling. The words from the rest of my family members were droned out, the words still ringing in my head.
"Congratulations." I gave a gigantic smile to my sister and James. "Really. I'm happy for you." And I was. I got up giving them both the biggest hugs ever. I was going to be an aunt! "I-I have to go to the bathroom," I replied, immediately after and leaving the room. I didn't go to the bathroom, instead I rushed to my room and slid down to the floor with my back against the door.
As expected, I heard a knock on the door not even a minute later. "Amelia?" A feminine voice sounded. I wiped my tears before I stood up and opened the door. Mariana walked into the room and threw her arms around me.
"I should've told you first, I-I—"
"I'm just happy for you," I expressed truthfully, sitting on my bed. "I-I knew this day would come, and I couldn't be more excited." I smiled through my tears.
"I would like to ask you something," she stated, looking at me. I nodded. "Would you be our child's godmother? I couldn't trust anyone else with this decision."
Another gasp escaped my lips, and a tear fell of my cheek. I nodded enthusiastically and couldn't stop the grin from forming. "I'd love to."
"Good. Now, stop crying," she teased, handing me a tissue. "Things happen when you most likely expect them to," She promised. "You'll get your future." I didn't have the energy to argue with her, so I simply nodded.
"Let's go watch the movie, I'm sure where the two scardy-cats are cuddling as we speak," I chuckled hoarsely.
As we got downstairs the quiet conversation immediately halted. I shrugged it off, sitting on my favourite seat and digging into the pepperoni pizza.
--
After the late movie night, which hadn't started until I had insisted more than several times to start, we had decided to go to bed. Shane and Enzo decided to sleep in the same room, and we weren't surprised when we saw them throwing salt around like dollar bills at a strip club. Julian, the sane one, decided to sleep in my room since his twin kicked him out.
Before I went to sleep, Shane apologized to me, over, and over again. He said he would explain to me later as he saw that I was too tired. I nodded, wanting to hear what he had to say. I missed him.
It was now later in the afternoon the next day. While Enzo and Julian were out, and my parents had work, it left Shane and I.
Hesitantly, I did inform him about yesterday with Dylan, and he managed to pry more information out, which lead to telling him about our date. I was mad at him, but I needed to have my twin back.
He was shocked to say the least, but anger could also cover the rest of his emotions. He forbade me from going out. I simply scoffed and slapped him upside the head. I threatened to tell mom about his behaviour, because she did approve of it when I told her last night.
He disagreed, and hasn't left my side since, keeping his eyes on me like I was his prey. I hadn't forgiven him yet, but he kept insisting that he would tell me later, after my date. I could forget, but not forgive, not at least I had an explanation.
—
"I got it!" Shane called as the door rang.
I was almost done. I clasped a gold coloured necklace around my neck, adding a touch of lip-gloss.
"Okay!" I suddenly realized my mistake. "Shit!" I quickly grabbed my phone and purse and dashed down the stairs.
I wasn't surprised when I found Dylan and Shane talking in the foyer. Well, more like Shane ordering and Dylan listening. I also noticed how Shane was two to three inches taller than Dylan, and I bet he was getting a kick out of that.
They were talking, but I couldn't make out what they were saying. They were too quiet. I chose at that moment to make my entrance.
"Hey," I grinned, tucking a piece of hair behind my ear.
"Hi," he smiled. He gave me a quick once over before finding my eyes again. "You look really pretty. I-I uh... got you these," he smiled, holding out a bouquet of sunflowers among other small flowers. I couldn't help but blush. They were beautiful. I reached out to take the flowers, but Shane interrupted.
"She's allergic."
"No, I'm not," I snapped, sending a glare. "Thank you, I'll go put these in a vase. I'll be right back." I quickly hurried to the kitchen. I couldn't let Shane be alone with Dylan for too long.
As I expected, they talked in hushed whispers, immediately stopping when I entered their peripheral vision.
"Um... let's go?" I asked tentatively, mentally preparing for Shane to protest.
"Bring her back at nine thirty."
"My curfew is much later." Since I was staying at my parents' still, they implemented rules, which included a curfew.
"Not today it isn't." I didn't want to argue with him in front of Dylan so for the first time today, I complied.
"I'll bring her back," Dylan chuckled, opening the door. My eyes wandered over to him, finally getting a chance to take him in. He wore a blue shirt with black jeans. His eyes weren't hid behind glasses today, making them even more captivating—if that was even possible due to the blue shirt, making them pop out.
I couldn't help but feel giddy. This was actually happening.
"What are you thinking?" Dylan asked as he escorted me to the car.
"Nothing," I quipped. "I'm just... happy," I concluded. "Now let's get out of here before my dad comes, because he is due in any second," I chuckled. Silence was met on his end.
"You don't want me to meet your parents?" He sounded... hurt.
I looked into his blue eyes. "No, it's just that I'm not ready for you to meet them. I-I, my dad is... protective, to say the least. I want you to meet them on my terms."
"I get that," he nodded, backing out the driveway. "Now what kind of music do you prefer? Country?" He mused. I scrunched up my nose.
"Well," I clapped. "That was fun while it lasted." I went to unbuckle my seatbelt. "You can pull over there," I pointed to the side of the road.
"Very funny," he replied dryly.
"I try," I replied cheekily, hooking up the aux to my phone. "Now let's listen to real music."
Six songs later, we were at our location. "Where are we?" It was just a large brown building, larger through its width then height.
"You'll see," he grinned stepping out of the car.
I was about to open my door before it was shut. It was promptly opened again. "What did I say about you opening doors when I'm around?"
"Nothing," I squeaked.
"Mhm," he hummed. "I'll open them; get that through your thick skull," he teased, knocking on my head. "Is that empty?" He joked, knocking on it again.
I scowled. "Very funny," I mimicked.
We walked into the building walking through the halls before going to the basement. "Did you bring me here to kill me?"
"No, I usually plan that for the second date," he replied seriously.
"So there's a second date?" I asked cooly— at least tried to.
"Depends on how this goes," he winked, grabbing my hand and pulling me into a large room.
The room wasn't brightly lit, but quiet the opposite. The large area had a cool tone to its atmosphere. What caught my attention were the numerous numbers of people skating around in roller blades.
"Rollerblading?" I squealed, taking everything in. "I've never done this before."
There was a small shack off to the side that sold food, the shoe rental place was a couple feet away from it. I couldn't help but grin as I listened to one of my favourite songs from the nineties.
"Wait here, I'll go get the shoes." I nodded, my mind still focused on the surroundings. I couldn't help but aw at a little girl who finally managed to get back on her feet, skated around before falling again. An older lady, who I assumed to be her mother helped her up again.
"What's a pretty thing like you doing here all alone?" I met the eyes of a stranger who plastered a smile on his face. "Why don't we get you shoes, and take a lap around?" He suggested, a glint in his eyes. I shook my head. "We can take the party back to my place if you'd like," he grinned cockily, head tilting slightly to the slide.
"No." I backed up slowly, my heart beat accelerating.
"Are you sure?" He asked, taking a step forward. "I can give you a night you won't forget," he promised, biting his lip, trying to appear seductive but that action did just the opposite.
"Yes." I said firmly, standing my ground.
"Babe! There you are, I've been looking everywhere for you." I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. Dylan walked up to us, shoes in hand. He stood slightly in front of me, glaring at the man.
"Can I help you?" He gritted out, sizing him up. But he didn't have to. Dylan was obviously more built than the 5'7 scrawny frame.
"Look man, I'm sorry. I didn't know she was your girl." The stranger walked away without putting up a fight, knowing he would be starting a fight he'd never win.
"Are you okay?" He breathed immediately turning to me. "I knew I shouldn't let you out of my sight, your brother is going to kill me. That was his number one rule an—"
"Dylan, I'm okay, now that your here," I interrupted him, letting out a calm and collected breath. "What did Shane tell you?" I mused, trying to make light of the situation.
"There isn't enough time in the world to tell you what I can't do, rather then what I can," he laughed, relieving the small built tension. "Let's go find a bench."
I followed him and put on the shoes that somehow fit perfectly. "How'd you know?" I gestured to the shoes.
"I never give out my sources."
"Shane then?" I giggled. He nodded, a smile teasing on his lips and held out a hand to help me up.
We made our way to the entrance of the arena. I went ahead and stepped on, finding balance. I got excited and decided to skate a little. I was confused when I noticed Dylan wasn't with me. I turned around and saw Dylan was hesitant to step in, still on the sidelines. "Come on," I urged, tugging his hand.
"I thought this was your first time," he pouted, slowly taking a step in.
"It is," I giggled. "I just happen to be a natural," I winked, letting go of his hand. He struggled to find a balance, fumbling to grab on the railing.
"I don't like this," he grumbled, standing to his full height. "I thought we would fail together."
"Don't be a pessimist, besides your the one who picked this place," I teased. "I'll hold your hand if that helps," I offered when he was reluctant to let go of the sidings.
He clenched my hand and together we managed to skate around the whole arena twice. I burst out laughing when Dylan fell for the umpteenth time.
"I'm glad you find this amusing," he spoke, standing back up, dusting off his pants.
"I do, very much," I grinned, reaching for his hand. I skated backwards, pulling him forward by his hands.
I couldn't help but twist my legs, skating in a curved side to side motion, following the beat of the song. I mouthed the lyrics to the song, grinning at Dylan when he began to get the hang of it.
"You know Panic! At the Disco?"
"Of course! I'm not uncultured," I laughed. "Though I'm not a huge fan."
"Favourite song?"
"I Write Sins Not Tragedies. You?" I turned around, standing beside Dylan. His grip on my hand only tightened as we skated around.
"Same," he replied. "Not many people appreciate the punk rock and alternative genre they bring."
"That is true, but I'm not like most girls am I?" I winked at him playfully. "Although, I'm more of a pop kind of girl. You know, Justin Bieber, Camilla Cabello, Ariana Grande, Shawn Mendes." He scrunched his nose at the mention of the Biebs. "Don't like him?"
"Well, I'm not a huge face," he mimicked, "but I do appreciate how he apologized for his actions. His music isn't half bad either I guess."
"Says the one who suggested country earlier," I shot back. "The Beibs is the only way to go," I concluded.
"I was joking!"
"It's okay," I nodded. "Some people just like listening to people sing about trucks and farms, and that is okay," I said, patting his arm.
"But I don't like country!"
"So, who's your favourite artist? A 2009 Taylor Swift or Tim Mcgraw?"
"Lia, you're going to be the death of me," he said pinching the bridge of his nose. "I don't like country and that is final."
"Well I did hear Carrie Underwood is a great country singer, though I wouldn't know, I can't listen to that shit. What do you think?" I asked, patiently waiting for his reply.
"Blake Shelton isn't bad."
"Ha!" I pumped my fist. "I knew it! You're a closet country lover!"
He opened his mouth to argue but closed it again. "Yeah, sure," he waved off. "Now, let's get some food. All this talking is making me hungry."
"Are you sure want to buy something from here? I'm sure one of the country songs say that fresh vegetables from the farm is the only way to go," I quipped, following him.
He gave me playful glare. "Okay fine, I'll stop!" I held up my hands in surrender, grinning.
"Good. Now what do you want? They have pizza, fries, hot dogs and burgers." he concluded as we stood in line.
"I wouldn't mind pizza."
"Cheese or veggie?"
"Pepperoni!" I couldn't wait to eat meat again.
"But what about your bet?" He asked turning to me, raising an eyebrow.
"I won!" I squealed. "He ate pepperoni pizza yesterday. So this marks my fifteenth winning. Actually, I want a burger. Yes, a cheeseburger."
"That's my girl," he grinned. He turned around giving the cashier out order. My girl? "Do you want a drink or nachos?" He asked, not fazed by the words he let out just a second before.
"Water," I choked out.
"No nachos?" I shook my head.
"I'll go grab us a table." I pointed back to the tables. I reached into my small black cross body bag, taking out my wallet.
"Hey, no. Put that back. I already got it." He clasped my hands, covering mine with his.
"But—"
"No buts," he spoke, putting my wallet back in my purse and zipped it up.
"I'll get dessert," I ordered.
"If that's what you want," he chuckled.
"Order 57!" A voice from the counter called.
"Oh, that's us!" Dylan piped, going to receive our order.
We rolled to our table, and before we did, I made sure I had the tray of food in my hands.
I was halfway through my burger when I found interest in Dylan's nachos. "I thought you didn't want nachos?"
"I guess I changed my mind," I said cheekily, plopping another chip in my mouth. He simply shook his head, his lips tugging into a smile.
"Well, it's a good thing I got a large, isn't it?"
--
"That was some good ice cream," I moaned, dropping the spoon into the empty cup. We were currently sat in his car in the parking of the ice cream shop since we both decided that we were too lazy to get out and instead ordered through the drive way.
"I agree."
"Told you strawberry ice cream was the best," I pointed out, staring longingly at his cup of half filled ice cream. I slurped my ice cream down fast (as usual), while Dylan still had his left.
"Oh, what are we doing for your birthday?" I asked. It was about three weeks away.
"We are not doing anything for my birthday," he stated with a blank face. I opened my mouth, but I was cut off. "And no presents either, so whatever you got, return it or something," he added.
Too late.
His eyes darted to the small digital clock in the car. "Oh shoot! Your brother will kill me!" My eyes darted to the time which was ten minutes before my supposed curfew. He started up the car. "Here, take this, I'm full." I didn't need to be told twice as I took the cup from his hands.
I savored the delicious taste of the creamy dessert. "You're really scared of my brother aren't you?"
"I wouldn't say scared, but I would like to leave your house with all my limbs in tact." I scoffed. "What?" He asked, turning his head to me before focusing on the road.
"Shane couldn't hurt a fly, let alone a human being. He's just playing the big brother card."
"That is reassuring."
"But I wouldn't put it past Julian and Enzo to do that to you," I giggled.
"That's... nice."
"Very," I agreed, my mood falling when Dylan drove into the neighbourhood.
I wasn't surprised when the foyer's light was open. No doubt Shane was counting down the minutes until he could bust out his bat and go after Dylan.
"Here we are," he sighed, his mood also dropping. "I'll walk you to the door," he offered, leaving his car and opened the door for me.
"I—"
"Today was—" We both said at the same time. "You go first," he chuckled.
"I really enjoyed today, thank you." I tucked a strand of hair behind my ear, looking up at him. He smiled.
"I could say the same."
There was a moment of awkward silence between us. I didn't know what to do. I leaned up onto my tipi toes, placing a kiss on his cheek. "I'll see you soon?"
"You can count on it," he promised, still not letting go of my hand. Instead, his grip only tightened.
I couldn't stop darting my eyes from his and his lips. I bit my lip, imagining how his lips would feel against mine. Dylan's gaze zeroed in on that action before looking back at me. I gave him the tiniest bit of a nod before he closed the space in between us and smashed his lips against mine.
