Announcements and Graduations

Marinette's parents put on smiles when the kids told them the news that night. But deep down they were worried. They didn't think that Adrien was lying it made sense, that he was her soulmate. But did their daughter want to date this boy? Or was he making her? They chose not to ask. Adrien promised they would still come over for supper once a week and that Marinette would keep her separate room. They were happy that agreement and at least they would get to see Marinette weekly and check in her. He also hadn't asked her to move in sooner than then they originally agreed to so they could keep an eye on her before grad and maybe get her to talk.

"Adrien, Marinette how long have you known you are soulmates?" Tom leaned in.

Marinette looked at Adrien begging him to answer for her. "Well, after Father and I talked on my birthday, I knew Marinette was my soulmate, we talked about it on her birthday, but she was dating Luka so we agreed to the job thing... Then stuff happened with Luka and I wanted to give her space and then tonight we had a moment. And we agreed to commit to one another." he took her hand and gave it squeeze. She looked up and thanked him.

"But Marinette, you had planned on moving in with Luka?" Sabine took her daughter's hand.

"Umm, I had but this was job over made so much more sense and Luka and I were struggling beforehand a bit, and I was kinda on the fence." Marinette started to ramble, trying to hide the fact Adrien was making her do this. She just leaned into Adrien and hid, letting her parents think that talking about the break up was still too much.

Adrien held her close. Knowing that she was carrying the weight of the world. A weight he gave her, how did he fell about? Was this really how he got the girl of his dreams?

The following morning when Adrien told his father that his soulmate had agreed to date him, Gabriel was over the move. He wanted to meet her. "Actually Farther, you know her."

"I do?" Gabriel couldn't recall meeting a girl who was so obedient.

"It's Marinette Father." Adrien held up the My Lady Fashion Blog showing him the post she made about being Marinette and joining Agrest Indriesteries as an intern in the fall working alongside Adrien as he also interned for the company.

"Toms daughter? I haven't seen her since she was a baby, Tom and I handle business through the phone or through Nathalie. She's your best friend is she not?"

"Yes, Father." Adrien watched the wheels in his father's head turn.

"This is a story the media will eat up, we need to get it out before grad, so that way rumours can't fly. So let's do some photos at a picnic with her family tomorrow and then we will do a magazine interview and TV interview on Monday."

"Oh, that's not what Mari and I had planned, but I'll call her and let her know, can I let her parents bring the picnic?" Adrien had hoped they could keep it a secret a bit longer.

"That seems fine. I'll have Nathalie make the rest arrangements. This way we can make arrangements for Miss. Dupain-Cheng to move in with you and have her shadow, Nathalie, for a few days, with her parents."

"Alright, Father, Mari and I get to have our summer right? Our internships won't start until the fall right" Adrien looked hopefully, yes they still had the shoots and things to do but he wanted to give her a fun summer with what time would allow.

"Ah I remember my first summer with your mother." his father sighed and smiled, something he hardly did. "I wouldn't rob you of that magical first summer. Before Miss. Dupain-Cheng joins our family staff, we should go over your schedule and add in some fun things for you. Now, go call that girl of yours." Adrien could have sworn he saw his father's eyes sparkled. He left and made arrangements with Mari and her family.

Sunday had been so fun, Tom and Sabine had made a wonderful lunch and Mari had worn a dress she had made inspired by Gabrial's Butterflies Heart dress. It was a soft green tea-length dress with butterflies on the bottom of the skirt and a butterfly belt on her waist. He was impressed with her skill. Adrien wore a soft pink dress shirt. They looked great. They took several cute photos, Adrien and Marinette's favourite had been one taken on the swing. It looked like Adrien was getting ready to push her, and she looked over her shoulder at him, laughing like he had just whispered a secret in her ear. It reminded them both of them a photo they had from when they were kids.

Sunday Night, Adrien and Mari took Nino and Alya out for supper and told them the news. The two said I told you so, and teased them about breaking hearts tomorrow and then owed and awed over the photos that had been taken that afternoon.

But now it was Monday morning, they both had a final that afternoon, but here they sat at a TV studio, waiting to go on air. They sat on a red love seat, Mari wore a black tea-length skirt with a white blouse and Adrien wore brown slacks and a black dress shirt. "Adrien, I've never done this before."

He took her hand and held it in his lap, "Don't worry beautiful, I'll hold your hand all the way through."

She rolled her eyes and booked his nose. "Okay silly." she giggled. She had to act like she loved him or at least liked him, everywhere except there house now. But she had to admit his hand did make her feel safer.

Nadja the station's reporter came over and sat in the black spiny chair seated across from them. "So we have here, a list of questions from Mr. Agrest that we can ask you and to save on time the magazine will be using your answers for their article. Since you two love birds have a final exam. Thank you for letting me be the one to break the news."

"Well, your daughter would kill me if I didn't let her mommy break the news." Mari giggled.

Someone soon started counting down giving them a warning.

"Don't be bemused, it's just the news! Tonight I, Nadja Chamack am the one to break hearts all over Paris, as Adrien Agrest, Paris golden boy has found his soulmate, and it is his childhood best friend, Marinette Dupain-Cheng!" The couple waved at the camera. "So let get to the chase, you to where best friends since day one, who did this all come about."

They had practiced the answers with Alya and Nino last night, they knew their lines. "Well, Our parents had been friends so they often do business together and we grew up thinking there was no way we could be soulmates because we got our gifts on the same day," Mari spoke smoothly trying to hind her nervose. She hated lying so Adrien put the lies in his month, not hers.

"Then when she started My Lady Fashion, I fell in love with her work, and actually showed my father her website and Instagram, telling him that if I could find out who she was I wanted to work with her and have her be my first project to prove I could take over the company." Adrien was well practiced at this.

"And as he is my best friend, he eventually put pieces together and offered me a job, to become his new assistance when he moved out after grad. With the goal that partnership moving into a design-focused one down the road once I was done school. There are more details about the ins and out of my job on my Instagram if you want to know more." She squeezed his hand.

"Then after that was all settled, I realized, she was my soulmate, so I showed up to the place we will be living, she was working on a set of grad outfits there and I took her out for a romantic night out and asked her to be my girlfriend." Adrien pulled her close and kissed her forehead. Marinette blushed.

"So the job happened before the soulmate discovery. What a treat that must have been for you two." Nadja smiled. "So best friends turned lovers, we actually have some photos to look at real quick before we send you off, for a magazine interview. So if you want to know more check out that article. Anyway here is the first photo."

Up popped the photo from their childhood of them on the swing. "Adrien, your father found the photo." Adrien found his forearm being griped by Marinette's two hands. He was shooked, he'd mentioned the photo in passing. The two of them looked so young and innocent. Mari in her red polka-dotted dress, and him in a cat sweatshirt. They couldn't have been older than six.

The audience awed. Then the photo of them on the swing from yesterday came up. The audience clapped. Marinette looked at the photo, you would think she loved him, they looked happy, the looked real. She sighed and leaned her head on Adrien's shoulder. She could at least make it look like she was daydreaming. Several more cute photos from the day before rolled by. Then Naja sighed off, and the two were rushed off to answer a few more questions for the article. Then the rushed to the school to write a final.

---------------------------------------------------------Grad Day-----------------------------------------------------------

The gang met up at the house, the girls got ready upstairs and the boys downstairs. When everyone was ready, they met at the bottom of the stairs.

"Mari, dude... You are amazing. These are amazing, and you made Alya look... Wow..." Nino was red and clearly flustered.

"He's right beautiful. These are amazing." Adrien looped around and gave her a hug and kiss on the cheek. The photographer snapped a photo.

The group took all kinds of photos. Some of the girls, some of the boys, some of the dating couples and some of the opposite paring. Then the headed off to school and took a class photo, they then went to their families and took family photos. Then changed into their caps and gowns. Gabriel had been kind enough to have all the group and their families over for supper before grad.

The parents discussed the kid's futures, each proudly sharing what each child was doing next. Then the talk of wedding bells started and the kids quickly interrupted saying they all wanted to finish school or at least the first year before any weddings. The parents laughed and enjoyed the embarrassment they caused their children.

At grad, each child walked across the stage, got there diploma then changed into their dresses for the grand march and dance. Mari danced with her father which was quite a sight given the height difference. Adrien danced with Nathalie for the first half of the song then he danced with Sabine for the second half. Thanking both of them for playing mom in his life.

Then it came time for them to dance with their dates. Adrien bowed and offered Mari his hand, "Dance with me." he said with a wink. She rolled her eyes and did as she was told.

She wished for the millionth time that week, that she could love him, but her heart still longed for Luka. He had been in the studio since their breakup working on music with a girl she figured was his soulmate, though supposedly, he was playing at grad after-party they were going to. Adrien, seem so happy to have her in his life, and she wanted to be just as happy. She wanted to want him that same way. Sure, he was forcing her to fake date him well he'd kinda given her a choice, but she could tell by the look in his eye that he would tell her to at some point. He was making her live his dream. But at least his dream benefited her too.

She knew that because of their soulmate bond they would always feel strongest around each other, but she just couldn't let herself fall in the love with the man who was forcing her in a relationship, both romanticly and professionally.

Adrien could tell Mari wasn't focusing on their dance he leaned down and whispered in her ear, "Mari, just enjoy the dance." She looked up at him.

"Okay, sorry." He then twirled her and made her smile again.

"Let me give you a good grad night, the world and its problems will still be their tomorrow." He pulled her close.

"I didn't mean to get distracted." She relaxed in his arm.

"It's okay, sweetheart. Let's just have a good night." The song ended and he walked Mari over to their families and friends.

"Are you four ready for your after-party?" Tom asked the kids.

"You know it, dude!" Nino took Ayla's hand.

"Hold up boy. Mari and I need to prep for the party."

The boys looked at each other. What did the girls have in store for them?

The rest of the night would hold many surprises for the group. Nothing could prep them for what this night would hold.
