Chapter 1

[Not my photo, just cute dog.]

—————

"Go fetch, boy!" I said throwing a ball out Into the yard.

"Do you think he's the right one, honey?" My mom asked.

"I'm not sure. I mean all of them are smart and sweet and I can imagine how adorable they are. But I haven't felt a connection to any of them yet." I said.

"Alright, well Sage, why don't we call It a day and you can come back here another day." Someone said grabbing the dogs leash. "It's okay If you don't feel a connection with any of these dogs. We should be able to find you one eventually."

"I'm sure I will." I said as we walked back Into the building.

While my mom was taking to someone I was zoning out and listening to all the dogs doing their things.

"Stop! Halt!" Someone shouted down the hall. I could hear a dog running down the hallway, away from the trainer.
I dog stopped by me and sniffed all over.

"I'm sorry, he just got away. He's always so excited. I don't think he's going to work out." The trainer said grabbing the dogs leash. "I'm sorry ma'am."

"It's okay. Maybe he's not meant to be a guide dog, but he seems interesting." I said I pet the dog as kept smelling me.
"What's his name?" I asked.

"Stitch." She said.

"Aww, what a cute name. Hi there Stitch." I said as I got down to pet him more.

Now that goofball was my guide dog. Even If It took longer for him longer to become one, he's perfect to me.
It felt freeing to just walk with Stitch, rather than swinging a cane around.
I could go to a cute cafe or get lunch, then take Stitch to the park to play. I might not be able to read, write or draw anymore, but I could still play with Stitch like a "normal" person. Even though I've never really been normal, It's too boring.

Speaking of boring, I didn't have any friends. It's not that I'm not a friendly person, It's just that people don't live up to my expectations. Now people just think I'm to stupid or annoying. They think just because I'm blind that I can't do anything for myself. And I'm ready to prove them wrong.

"What kind of pasta do you want?" My mom asked as I stood awkwardly beside her.

"I don't know, I don't really care. Just something." I said. "Ooo, what about banana bread?"

"Honey, we'll get there In a minute. I'll just get penne and we could use more Alfredo sauce." My mom said grabbing things off the shelf.

"Do you think Stitch could find the bananas? I mean I'm sure he can smell them, but It's not like he's taught fo find things like that, y'a know?" I asked.

"You could test It, just try not to run into anything please." My mom said.

"I'll go full speed!" I said and walked In the direction of the fruit part of the store. I tried to remember the layout of the store, but they always seem to move things when you need them. Not to mention all the people standing and staring at the blind girl. Or annoying people trying to pet Stitch.

My foot hit something, I think It's a box or something. It should be one of the stand things for the fruit. But now to find with fruit It Is... Maybe I should of just asked my mom to get bananas... I don't want to be know as "that" girl In the store. Even when people weren't around I felt I was being stared at constantly. At least I didn't have to make eye contact. To bad I could still hear.

People would either be talking about their own drama, a little to loud. Or they would be talking about me, usually not good things. There was a time when a kid complimented my outfit though.

I managed to find the bananas, get those annoying plastic bags open and told Stitch to go find my mother.

"Oh, good job, honey. Did Stitch find them or you?" She asked.

"I did. But maybe I could train him to do stuff like that." I said reaching down to pet him.

"Alright, I think I got everything we need." My mom said headed towards the checkout.

"But what the bakery section?" I pouted.

"Ah, okay, come on."

"Yes." I mumbled under my breath. I mean what's better than a nice pastry, cake or cookie? Maybe cheesecake every now and then.

It had been a few months since everything. The weather started to cool and the days got shorter, summer was over. But now I could look forwards to holidays and maybe some snow.

"Ooo, I could get Stitch to pull a sled!" I said excitedly.

"He's supposed to be a guide dog, not a sled dog or stick pony." My mom said.

"But he's good at so many things." I said as I hugged my boy.

"He's definitely got the energy for It." My father said.

(I know this Is starting slow and boring, but don't worry, we got to get through the boring stuff before the good stuff. Even if it takes awhile.)
