Chapter 2: Someone Take Me Home
Ophelia looked around the cave before she took a seat on the fountain. Soon after Paul took a seat next to her.
"I know it's not a home but it's our home". Paul bumped her shoulder playfully.
"A home isn't a place. It's the people". Ophelia told him.
Paul didn't say anything and Marko smiled at her comment. A genuine smile. "I like that". Marko sat on the edge of the fountain as he looked at her.
David was suddenly in front of her. Looking at her with anger. Ophelia felt sick in her stomach. She was afraid of David. When Marko told her David was secretly huggable she had to disagree.
"Who's blood did you drink?" David asked.
At that question Paul immediately got up and walked away, mumbling under his breath that he needed to get high. Marko wanted to argue with David but he knew that would be a bad idea, he stayed where he was.
"I already told you. I. Don't. Know." Ophelia said the last three words slowly.
David just shook his head slowly, a wicked grin slowly making its way across his lips along with a dark chuckle.
"Lying I see". David told her.
"I'm not lying". Ophelia was now getting irritated. "I didn't even want this in the first place. Why would I lie?" She questioned him.
David didn't say anything. He just looked at her with the same angry look. Ophelia who was getting annoyed but also still fearing for her life looked to Marko then back to David.
"I can't remember. Whenever I try and think it's...it's just gone. Blank". That was the best she could do to explain it. She was done for the night. She didn't want to be around David anymore. Ophelia looked to Marko once more.
"I'm pretty tired. Is there somewhere I can lay down?" She asked.
"Yeah. Yeah. There's a bed over there". Marko pointed to a direction and she made her way over. David growled before walking away as well.
Marko moved slightly as Paul took a seat right next to him, a joint between his lips. "Do you find it weird she doesn't remember who gave her the blood? All of us remembered how we drank it". Marko asked as he looked to Paul.
Paul nodded as he watched David take a seat in his wheel chair. "Something isn't adding up".
"She's most likely lying". David spoke up. Saying the same thing as well.
"Why would she be lying?" Paul asked but David still didn't have an answer.
•••
"What's your name?"
"Ophelia".
"That's an interesting name. I'm Antonio. Say...you want to get out of here?"
Ophelia breathed out heavily as she opened up her eyes. The sun beamed down on her and she groaned while pulling the cover over her face. She didn't know what the time was but she was exhausted. Guess this was something normal of being half vampire.
When she woke up again the sun was still up but she could tell it was going down. She threw the covers off of her and looked around. None of the boys were up but she knew they could only come out when it was dark.
Ophelia didn't like being here. She thought it was cruel of herself to not like them either. Especially for what they had done for her. But she didn't know who they were. All she knew was their names and that they were vampires. She wanted to leave but she was just a twenty-three year old half vampire that was walking around with amnesia.
"I want to go home". She whispered.
But she didn't have a home or did she? She had to have some place to stay before all this. The sound of waves crashing against rocks caught her attention. She pushed herself out of bed, not bothering to put her shoes on as she walked outside.
She noticed the sun was about to fully set so she quickly made her way across some of the rocks to sit down so she could see the sunset. Ophelia took a deep breath as she watched the sun go down then looked at the waves. She breathed in the fresh salty misty air as she listened to the waves.
"We thought you left". Dwayne's voice broke her out of her peaceful state.
"I thought about it".
"Why?"
"Dwayne. Why am I here? I don't know any of you. I don't belong here. Why can't I just go home?" She asked him truthfully.
"Do you know where you live?" He asked, already knowing the answer.
"I wish I could remember". She whispered.
"I know".
"Why doesn't David like me?" She turned to Dwayne who held the same face he usually did. It was hard to read what he was feeling or even thinking.
"He'll warm up to you. David just doesn't like change".
Ophelia nodded slowly then looked back out to the ocean. "I may not remember how or when I drank the blood...but...something tells me it was tragic".
Dwayne slowly placed a hand on her shoulder. She stiffened at his touch but he didn't pull his hand away. "You're not alone. When we all drank it, tragedy was already there. Come on. We're going to the Boardwalk".
They were at the Boardwalk for almost an hour and Ophelia was bored. All they did was just stand around their bikes and looked at people that past.
"Is this all you do?"
"Basically". Paul said before inhaling from his joint.
"Do you not go see other things?" She asked and he shook his head.
"You are all ancient vampires for gods sake and all you do is come here? You could go see the world". Ophelia was shocked by this. They're basically wasting their immortal life.
"Hey! We're not ancient...well David is. But I became a vampire in 1947. Marko was only ten years after me". Paul told her with a wide grin.
"We will see the world. One day". Marko interjected, leaning over his bike, looking over at her. "I want to see New Orleans. Heard there's some king-head vampire dude there. I want to see if I can over throw him". Marko's smile widened.
Paul only laughed, coughing a bit on the smoke he was inhaling. Paul gripped onto Marko's jacket, while pointing at him, his join between his fingers as he did so.
"Yeah. Ok. Bud". Paul continued to laugh and Marko only shrugged him off, glaring at Paul before looking back to Ophelia where his eyes softened.
"We have decades. We'll get there". Marko said before looking at the lights on the rides. Marko may have been an old vampire who was no longer alive but the way his eyes lit up from talking about his dreams, he was still someone who craved life.
