Chapter 5- After five years

"What is he doing here? Out of all the days, why does he have to be here now?" Jenny wondered as the elevator closed.

Cristine pressed a button and glanced at Jenny— who was in a daze.

"Ms. Han, are you alright?!?" Cristine asked as she noticed something might be bothering her.

Her voice woke Jenny from her thoughts, "Huh?" she replied as she saw the concerned look on Cristine's face.

Cristine smiled at her, "Nothing, Ms. Han! Just that we are here," she said, and the elevator opened.

Cristine gestured for Jenny to exit first.

"This way, please!" Cristine instructed and led Jenny to Martha's office.

While Jenny is following Cristine, she's still thinking about how Maru and Eunice look happy together, "Maybe they are here for their wedding!" she tells herself.

"Are you saying something, Ms. Han?" Cristine asked as she heard her murmur.

"Oh! It's nothing!" Jenny dismissed as they continued to walk straight through the hallway.

Soon, they stop in front of an opulent door at the end of the hallway. Cristine knocked at the door three times before she slowly opened it. Jenny inhales deeply and follows Cristine as she enters the room.

Inside the room are three more rooms. Two rooms had frosted glass doors, while one of the rooms had a door made of an expensive wood.

A woman in her 30s with sleek, short hair came out of the room with a wooden door, carrying a folder close to her chest. She is wearing a black T-shirt with a matching beige blazer and pants. She looks sophisticated and authoritative; she must be Martha.

Martha walked to them upon seeing the two ladies standing in front of her.

"Ms. Martha, Ms. Han is here to see you," Cristine immediately informed.

"Thank you, Ms. Kim! I'll take care of Ms. Han now!" Martha said.

Cristine's duty was to deliver Jenny to Martha, and now that she has done it, she bows and immediately leaves Jenny with Martha.

After Cristine closed the door, Jenny stretched her hands and immediately introduced herself, "Hi! I am Jenny Han,"

Martha gets her hand and smiles, "I am Martha Valdez, the one that called you earlier,"

"Nice to meet you, Ms. Valdez!" Jenny politely said.

"I prefer to be called Martha. Ms. Valdez sounds too old," Martha corrected.

"In that case, please address me as Jenny too!" Jenny said as they released each other's hands.

Martha smiled, "Jenny, you are a bit early. Is it okay if we wait a little bit more? We are expecting one more person to join you today,"

Without hesitation,  Jenny agreed, "Sure!"

Then, Martha walked and directed Jenny to sit on a lavish gray L-shaped couch across the wooden door.

"You can sit here first, Ms. Han...I mean, Jenny," she said. And she entered one of the frosted glass doors by the entrance, which Jenny assumed was her office.

In front of Jenny was a table with three magazines piled up. She grabbed the first magazine on the table. But as she was flipping through the pages, the image of Maru and Eunice suddenly came to her mind, "What a faith seeing them here?!?" she said to herself.

Then, Jenny heard the door open. She looked at the time on the phone and saw it was already 2 o'clock. She put the magazine back on the table.

She could hear Martha come out of her office and immediately welcome whoever opened the door, "Mr. Kang, it's nice to meet you!"

Upon hearing the name Martha mentioned, Jenny suddenly became alarmed, "Mr. Kang? Can't he be...?"

"The pleasure is mine!" the man replied.

Hearing his voice, Jenny confirmed that it was Maru.

It's been five years since Jenny last saw him, but she must not looked anxious in front of him.

Martha tells Maru to follow her. When Jenny heard her, she stood up and composed herself.

Finally, Jenny is facing Maru again after five years.

"Damn it! He's still good-looking! ...She's still good-looking!" Jenny and Maru thought in unison.

Maru's charm hasn't changed a bit. His boy-next-door image can still captivate the hearts of every woman he set his eyes on.

Martha introduces them to each other, "Mr. Kang, this is Ms. Han; Ms. Han, this is Mr. Kang!"

Maru forwards her hand to Jenny, "It's been a while!"

He smiled, hoping it still had an effect on Jenny. He was not sure why, but seeing Jenny thrilled him.

Jenny immediately took his hand, "Maru!"

As they touched each other's hands, an electricity surprised them. But like true professionals, they set aside any of their personal issues with one another.

However, Martha can feel the sense of familiarity between them. It is her clue that they already know each other beyond today.
