Chapter 4 -The Auberge
"But how?... Why?... I mean, how did they know your number? And why did they call you?" Mari—who was also stunned, asked.
Jenny shrugged.
"I don't know either. I don't remember applying to any company before I went back home," she replied honestly.
Mari was silent for a while as she processed the situation. However, she couldn't think of anything. Resigned, she exhaled loudly and said, "Well, whatever the reason is, it's The Auberge! You should hurry up and prepare for your interview!"
"It's just 8 a.m. I have plenty of time," Jenny said, relaxed.
The Auberge Hotel is just a one-hour drive from Jenny's house. So, even if she leaves at noon, she will still reach it on time. But Mari pulled Jenny out of the chair and pushed her towards the bathroom, "It is better to be early than be late!" she urged.
Finally, Jenny surrendered and said, "Okay!... Okay! I am going!"
As Jenny headed to the bathroom, Mari said, "You know! If you get this account, your boss will be very...very...happy!"
Jenny stopped and looked at her, "My boss? Meaning, you?" she asked.
"Uh- Huh!" Mari nodded.
Jenny said with a straight face, "Don't expect anything yet! First, I don't know why they called me. Second, we don't know if it's legit or not. And lastly, it's just an interview— anything can happen,"
Because of Jenny's seriousness, Mari chuckled, "Don't be so pessimistic! Think something positive like—they called you because they liked your work," she said, lighting the mood.
Jenny thought her friend was too optimistic, but she didn't say more and closed the bathroom.
After almost an hour, Jenny came out of the bathroom with a pink floral towel wrapped around her body while her wet, slender legs were showing.
Mari whistled, "O, Sexy!" she teased.
Jenny playfully posed for Mari before she headed to another room that she turned into her walking closet.
She looked at the several clothes before finally choosing a white long-sleeve polo, a light pink blazer, and gray, square slacks pants. Jenny has smooth white skin and doesn't like wearing makeup. It's not like she needs them anyway! But she always uses tinted sunscreen and colored lip balm to have a bit of color. She ties her brown hair into a simple ponytail. Then, she gets her black shoulder bag to complete her look.
Jenny came out of the room, "How do I look?" she asked as she turned for Mari.
"You look great!" Mari compliments.
Then, the two walked to the Genkan and put on their heels.
Jenny is 5'6, so she doesn't wear high heels often, unlike Mari, whose shoes are mostly high-heeled. But because it's a special day today, Jenny wore her two-inch white heels.
As they exited the house, Mari said, "We should grab something to eat first! Before you head to your interview. I am famished!"
"Okay!" Jenny agreed as she locked the door of her apartment.
They ride the elevator and walk to the basement parking until they reach a red sedan. Mari immediately takes the driver's seat while Jenny sits on the passenger side next to Mari.
They drove for about 30 minutes until they reached the J-Coffee Cafe —the most popular coffee shop in the country. They decided to have their first meal of the day there.
Mari parked the car. They walked inside the cafe and saw a vacant table, next to the big windows. They sat there. The Auberge could be seen from where Jenny and Mari sat.
Jenny frowns as she gazes at the sight of The Auberge.
"Penny your thoughts?" Mari asked as she saw how Jenny looked outside.
Jenny turned her eyes to Mari and said, "I never thought I would be working for them,"
Mari knew how skeptical Jenny was about the call this morning. But at that moment, Jenny was actually thinking she would be working for them?!? Mari smiled and said encouragingly, "That's the spirit!"
The time flew fast without them noticing it was almost time for Jenny's interview.
Just as they were about to head to The Aurberge, Mari received a call from Andrew, saying he urgently needed to talk to her about something. So, Mari just dropped off Jenny at the hotel at 1:30 p.m.— 30 minutes earlier than her interview.
The Auberge is the epitome of luxury. Everything from the gold-framed door in the entrance to the intricately designed marble flooring is impressive.
Many celebrities, such as an Olympic Gold Medalist, Basketball Star, Politicians, A-list Actors and Actresses, and other celebrities in their respective fields, can be seen in the hotel lobby.
Jenny approached the grandiose reception, "Excuse me!" she said to a lady with Cristine printed on her nametag.
"Yes, Ma'am, what can I do for you?" Cristine said in a friendly manner.
"Hi! I am Jenny Han, and I am looking for Ms. Martha Valdez. I received a call from her," Jenny explains.
Cristine's eyes lit up, "O, Ms. Han! Ms. Martha told us that she will be expecting you!" she said expectantly.
Cristine is a young, pretty, and tanned female employee. She is wearing a black blazer with a maroon scarf. Her dark brown hair is neatly tied in a bun, and she wears full makeup.
"Come this way, Please!" she gladly escorts Jenny to the elevator.
As they reach the elevator, Jenny sees the familiar faces of Maru and Eunice, laughing at each other as they walk together.
Jenny suddenly feels uneasy. She just learned about the two earlier through a magazine, and now that she sees them in real life, it hits differently. After all, it was her first time seeing Maru smile at another girl. And to see him smile at another woman somehow saddened Jenny.
