❝ MURDOCK, WHILE YOUR JOB
IS TO CREATE A PR STORM,
MINE IS TO CLEAN IT UP.
STAY OUT OF MY WAY.❞
NEW YORK CITY HAS ALWAYS been a place for the people. Sure, the towering skyscrapers might argue otherwise, but there was something about the city that lived and breathed for the people who resided in it. There was a bit of dirt on its outside, like any other city, but when you scrubbed it off you saw the real place-- one where people would fight tooth and nail for the city that they loved and was the place that they called home.
The likes of big battles and small incidents would do nothing to the city, not causing the people of New York to bat an eye or even flinch at the fact that the sky opened up and aliens flew through a magical portal, or that suddenly there's a masked vigilante running around knocking heads with the underground powers of New York City.
These sorts of things just tended to happen in New York City, and as long as the city the people loved stayed the same, they were happy to let the big and the small pass them by-- never forgetting but moving on in its bustling epicenter and outer boroughs.
Hell's Kitchen, however, was a place where the real dirt of the city came from, whether people talked about it or not. There would be no cleaning up the city that, at its core, was still the same as the people growing old remembered it to be, a mix of charm and an unmistakable fiery core that the people would fight for, dirt and all.
Emersyn Cecil had the dirt of the city underneath her fingertips, her nails always stained with the darker colors of New York. She had since she was born in the outskirts of Hell's Kitchen, spending her time bouncing between her deadbeat mom's place in Brooklyn and her father's small closet-like apartment inside of the Kitchen. Emersyn learned quickly how to hide the things that people didn't want to be seen-- the bottle of booze on her mom's table when her dad came by to pick her up, and the (probably) illegal ways her dad made money on the weekends.
It only made sense that one day that secret-keeping and dirt she kept would become the pinnacle of who Emersyn was.
Emersyn's job was the definition of burying things that people did not want to see. She was the person people ran to to put out fires. Not in the literal sense, but she was good at mitigating press crises, the much more frequent fires that oftentimes didn't get seen. Whether it was the secrets of her family or her best friend's campaign for student government that went to shit in elementary school, Emersyn was adept at what she did from a young age. Maybe it wasn't her finest moment, redirecting all of the attention on her elementary school friend's opponent by saying he had peed his pants three days prior during recess, or what she did to cover her dad's activity-- but minor details.
When Wilson Fisk comes to her days before deciding to come public to fix her city, the one Emersyn lived all of her waking days in until the messy world of politics in DC called her name, she's intrigued. The man seems clean-- maybe too clean for the type of city that New York (especially Hell's Kitchen) is, and yet Fisk came to one of the world's best scandal cover-up artist and secret keeper.
It was obvious she shouldn't have taken it, shouldn't have done the gig-- but with the man's deep pockets (enough to buy her own moderately spacious place in Hell's Kitchen) and an itching desire to come back to the city that she still called home, dirt and all, Emersyn was interested.
Which was her mistake, truly, as when secrets begin to be revealed (like a top secret crime ring) for the woman to push under the rug, Emersyn begins to realize that some fires can't simply be put out. Especially when the Devil of Hell's Kitchen decides that you're suddenly the missing piece to his own investigation into the corruption of his beloved city and taking down her employer.
And, to top it all off, Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson, the bane of collegiate Emersyn's existence, come knocking, making her question one thing--
Why the hell did she ever come back to New York City?

*:・゚✧ AUTHOR'S NOTE
wow so daredevil brainrot is so so real!!
there's not too much to say here, because honestly i'm excited to jump into this and start planning and writing... i just wanted to get this up because i truly truly love emersyn so much. she's the most similar to me in some aspects than any of my other oc's (aka my children) and it's super fun to get to write in a more practical version of the world that alison lives in that she oftentimes doesn't get to see (until later on, at least)
sit back, relax, and see the absolute craziness that i have cooked up (it's angst, it's mainly angst and rivals to lovers). buckle in!
and as always a special thank you to my love ash (nightwvngs for making another beautiful cover)
(thank you to @silksenses for the layout and @sanktham for the gif!)
