Shayla's POV
"And now we're entering the Milky Way galaxy!" My mother chirped excited, keeping her hands on the controls of our ship. Her long black hair was neatly braided and stacked on top of her head in an elegant manner. Her hair was a lot like her, put together and immovable. She wore long green pants, red boots, and a yellow long sleeved shirt that bore our planets signature symbol, a hawk. Strapped across her back was her sword.

"Ugh. So we still have two more galaxies to cross?" I groaned from my seat directly behind her.

"You know Shay, I think you complaining about it is actually helping us go faster. Thank you for that." My father was always the sarcastic one, I knew that's where I got it from. I also got my fathers brown hair and nack for swinging a mace around. He was a tall brooding man, the kind you definitely avoided a fight with, but his heart was soft. He was a skilled fighter and everyday I worked to become just like him. My mother was my best friend and biggest supporter, but my father was my hero.

"You're welcome, father." I pressed my forehead against the glass of the window and let the coolness relax me. The planets we passed were mono colored and boring, but we soon got to one that was a vibrant green and blue, a vast contrast to that of deep space. "What planet is that?"

"Earth. Home of the Justice League. Didn't they teach you this at the Academy?" My father inquired.

"Ah yes the protecters of the human race. A race so helpless they need aliens and enhanced beings to protect them."

"Exactly."

The Justice League was highly respected across galaxies, but the same cannot be said about the Earthlings. My thoughts were suddenly interrupted by the beeping of one of the many monitors on the ship's control panel.

My mother interpreted the strange noise quickly. "The sensors are picking up another ship in range."

"We might be too close to Earth's orbit, I'll steer away and we'll take the scenic route." Father's hands moved swiftly across the board, giving the ship commands.

"Um Father. We appear to be moving closer to the Earth." It was true. The colorful planet was getting bigger and bigger by the second.

"Something has over ridden our controls!" My mother's golden eyes widened in worry as she attempted to regain control.

"Or someone." My father pointed to the main screen as our lower deck security camera feed was displayed. A group of men in heavily armored suits with large guns in tote began to pile into our ship through the lower entrance. My stomach lurched. What is happening?

My father switched the ship over to autopilot unbuckling his seatbelt. My mother and I followed suit.

"What are we doing?"

Father walked to the wall where his mace was proudly displayed beside mine. He grabbed my weapon tossing it to me.

"We're going to fight the bastards invading our ship."

*end of flashback*

It had been six days since Parker told me of Luthor's plans. I went through the motions as usual. Sit in my room, sleep, and go to training, but Thursday was approaching. Otherwise known as the day where I begin to lose myself. Parker said I wouldn't fully lose control on the first dose, but I would definitely be affected. Luthor has taken everything from me. My parents, my wings, my life, but I could not let him take my mind. I was running out of time and quite frankly I had no idea what to do.

The all too familiar click and wheeze of my metal door sliding open echoed through my room. Parker stepped in. He fidgeted as he waited for the men in the control room to secure the door back. Something was definitely off I realized as he sat across from me every bit of playfulness gone from his features.

"Parker what is going on?"

He looked side to side clearly paranoid before whispering. "I have a plan."

"A plan for what?"

"To get you out of here and to make sure Luthor never does this to anyone else "

My heart skipped a beat. "Wh-what? How?"

Parker scooted closer to me and began to explain his plan. "Every bit of research and materials he has put into this brainwashing weaponization program is in this building. We are at a remote facility on the outskirts of Gotham. For the past few days, I've been hiding undetectable explosives throughout the entire building. Tomorrow before Dr. Asshole can get his grubby hands on you, me and you are busting out of here and blowing up every inch of this place on the way out."

I stared at him trying to comprehend what he was saying. "I've tried to escape before with no success. What makes this time any different?"

He smirked. "This time you'll have me. I'll create a diversion and break into the control room. While the guards are busy with my diversion, I open your door and we'll get out. I know the back way."

"Oh my gosh. This could work!" I was giddy as a child as I pressed my hands to his cheeks grinning wildly. I paused. "But where will we go?"

He placed his hands over mine, their warmth instantly calming me. "We could go to Paris or London or Australia! I could take you to football games or to the park or to the actual McDonald's! Shayla, I know the part of this world you've seen is ugly, but I want to show you just how beautiful life here can be. I want to make you happy."

I could feel my heart swell with happiness. A feeling I didn't know I could have anymore. Happy. Also I feeling a didn't know I could have anymore. But right here and right now, it didn't seem so far out of reach. "Let's do it."

He smiled leaning down to kiss my forehead. I could feel my cheeks burning as he pushed himself off the floor and started towards the exit.

"Be ready tomorrow."

"Wait how will I know when your distraction occurs?"

He gave me a devilish grin. "Oh you'll know."
