The Origin Forest (John Laurens x Reader) Part 1

Another side note, after being stuck in the dome, during the Pulse, you were given powers of Sublimation (which basically means you can control fog, mist, or any other type of gas. You can also turn into any of these things). You were 17 when the storm hit.

Backstory

*3 years ago, Upstate New York*

The Origin Forest, once known as the Blackley Forest, was a State Park where you could camp, hike, swim, and host family events.

It was a joyous place, filled with laughter and curiosity. The forest held a diverse amount of wildlife; the smallest being a deer mouse, and the largest being a grizzly bear. You would occasionally see these animals on a trail or walk through your campsite.

All in all, this place was a wonderful place.

Until a big storm hit.

There was tornado warnings and sirens going off every minute or so. The park rangers managed to get everyone out of the forest. Thunder and lightning lit up the sky, casting shadows down among the people below.

However, in the middle of the forest, a large bolt of lightning struck the earth, casting a dome of light over that part of the forest. A pulse surged through the dome, changing any creature that was inside into something new.

Some say that you can still hear the shrieks of the animals as their molecules were forced to change, while others say they can still feel the pulse from the blast.

Everyone would say that, ever since the storm, the whole forest has been covered with a mysterious veil of mist. Locals say you can hear whispers of you walk close enough. There were even reports of a mysterious, woman-like figure, hanging around in the fog.

Ever since the storm, the park has been closed. People can still walk inside the forest, but they choose not to, as they have a scary experience with the trapped beings inside of their origin zone.

Hence, the name The Origin Forest.

*3 Years after The Pulse*

Y/N's POV

I was currently laying on a mossy boulder, my hands behind my head as I gazed up at the starry night. This is probably the thing I look forward to every day. Just to see the stars.

When I first was in the forest, about 3 years ago, I was startled by how bright the stars shone. It was a breathtaking view. No signs of light pollution from a nearby city.

They also reminded me that I could never go back to how I used to be.

I let out a sigh, pushing the thought away. Sure, I couldn't leave the forest, as my life force was now tied to it, but at least I made some friends. But I'm pretty sure they don't understand me, as they are all animals.

"So does this make me a twisted version of Snow White? I mean, at least no one is trying to kill me. Yet." I muttered to myself, weighing the pros and cons.

I shook my head, sitting up and running my hand through my hair in a bored manner. I then stood up and began to walk around, wanting to find something to do.

I walked around aimlessly at first, but then found myself walking towards the edge of the forest with a somewhat hopeful thought in my mind.

'I'm going to push through the barrier.'

I've tried breaking through the dome before, but it would always result with me getting a minor burn. No one was allowed to leave.

Except hikers who think it's really cool to walk through this deserted place. But every time I would try to follow them out, I would always be blocked in.

I pushed my way through some bushes, silently hoping it wasn't poison ivy. I then turned past a tree, and came face to face with the dome.

To people outside of the dome, it was just air. You couldn't see the boundary. However, to the beings on the inside the dome, it was a veil of pastel blue, similar to the color of a hot flame. I say beings because we aren't normal anymore. I was a human at one point, but was turned into a something with powers. Plus, I was the only human to be caught in the blast.

I walked up to the veil, my (E/C) eyes staring into the shimmering void. How could something so innocent refrain you from being free?

I lifted my hand and gazed at it. There were old burn marks from my previous attempts to break through.

Something snapped not that far from my left, making me flinch and causing my hand to graze against the dome.

"Shit!" I cursed as my blood ran cold from the pain.

"Did you guys hear something?" A voice asked. I froze, turning to the direction of the voice.

There was a silent pause, but it was soon cut off by someone pushing through the bushes near me. I looked around, trying to find any hiding places near me.

"I think you're hearing things." Another voice stated.

'Okay, only two people I guess that's not that bad.' I thought, taking cover behind a bush. A few seconds later, the mystery people made their way into the clearing.

I peaked out from behind the bush, almost falling back into the dome in surprise. There were now four people, all guys by the looks of it. Two of them had their hair up in ponytails, another with their hair in a bun, and the last one with a bandana in his short, curly hair.

"See? I told you. There is nothing here." Said the guy with dark brown, almost black, hair.

"Okay, okay, you were right. But don't you feel a tiny bit off edge?" The guy with a curly ponytail asked. He was facing me, so I could somewhat make out his facial features.

He had freckles dotting around his face, similar to the stars above us. He wore a light green hoodie with jeans, as well as worn out Nike tennis shoes.

"No, why? Are you scared, John?" The guy with the dark brown ponytail teased, gently pushing John a bit. The other two chuckled a bit.

"I think 'e is." The tallest of the four, the guy with the bun, stated while he continued to laugh. I tried to pick up his accent. It sounded familiar, like I've heard it before.

John shook his head, "No, I'm not. I'm just asking because we are literally in the part of the forest where all the creepy ass-shit happens!" He answered, flailing his arms around for effect.

I raised a brow in annoyance. 'Really? That's how you're going to sum it up. Real smooth.' I thought letting out a rather loud huff of air.

Big mistake.

The guy, whose name is John, looked in my direction. I stayed there, frozen as we made eye contact. He gave me a look of confusion at first, but it soon turned into a look of terror. They must have noticed John's facial expression, because they turned around as well, looking near my general direction, but not at me.

John let out a terrified scream, causing me to scream. This led to the other three screaming. We all screamed, but I don't think the other three knew what John was actually screaming at. I took a terrified step back, not realizing what was behind me.

Big mistake number two.

I tripped on a rock, causing me to fall back onto the dome. Of course, I couldn't fall through the dome, so I fell straight onto it.

I let out a shrill shriek of agony, which outshone everyone else's screams. The blinding flash of pain coursed through me, my muscles screaming as the pain reached them. I collapsed, my back burnt as I fell away from the dome. As much as I didn't want them to, my eyes began to close.

Everything was incoherent from that moment forward. There was shouting, and I heard people running towards me, and I felt someone pick me up. The person said something to the others, before bringing me somewhere. They moved through the forest, towards some unknown location. After a while of being carried, they set me down on something sleek.

And then I lost consciousness.

Okay, so this is the first Oneshot! Hopefully it's okay so far?

There is definitely more to this story (a whole lot more, actually). I just felt like splitting it off a bit (because I was almost at 3,000 words 😂)

This is my first time writing something from a prompt that I found, but I think it turned out okay?

Anyways, stay awesome y'all!
