Star Spangled Man

Niklaus' P.O.V

Sebastian was pulled away earlier to get in his costume and is nowhere to be found. So I followed the trail of people that led me back to the tents. There were a bunch of tables and chairs  and they were all set to the side so that it wouldn't be taking up the walking space of the bridge especially some people were rushing.

There was a basket on each table which appears to be filled with various snacks and all that.

I was approaching the remaining table unoccupied when somebody spoke up from behind me, scaring me half to death.

"What's a girl like you doing at a dump like this?"
I turned around abruptly and was face to face...

Face to chest.

With a Star Spangled Spandex.

I look up and I see the all too familiar Chris. Well I don't know his last name so I can't really say 'familiar.'

He was wearig the same spangly outfit I watched just yesterday from the television and I started stitching the pieces together.

"YOU'RE CAP??" My knuckles were against my lip, looking him up and down smiling like an idiot.

"Surprise!" He pulls me into a hug and lifts me from the ground to the point where My feet weren't touching the surface. He lets go and drops me on my soles.

"This is so cool! And I knew you looked like you on that film!" He scratches the back of his neck sheepishly.

"Wait, who's Sebastian playing? Is he playing Bucky? But he didn't have a metal arm?"

"You might wanna take a seat. I'm going to catch you up on your references , you nerd." He leads me to the table by my waist and sit me down before he goes to sit across from me.

"I don't wanna spoil the whole thing, you'll see it when Sebastian is done with his wardrobe. And uh. Well, Peggy Carter appears in the films-" he starts off and it had only been atleast 5-10 minutes when we both got in debt of the comics that neither of us noticed somebody else sitting with us.

He had brown, medium shaggy hair that fell on his face that was focused in the papers he was holding. He was wearing a leather jacket. Kind of like one of those troubadour coats except it was leather and short and had a shiny a-

Sebastian.

"Bassy?" Sure enough, he looks up from the  white sheets, his lips in a thin line and face covered in concern.

Wait what did I just call him.

"Mhmmm- wait wait rewind. What did you say?" His lips parted and a buoyant toothy smile that if it spread any more it'll sparkle like the ones from tv.

"S-s. I dont know! Oh my god what did I say!? It just slipped out of my mouth." I look inbetween him and Chris and they're both smiling so cheesily, exchanging glances between the three of us. Chris finally coughs up from this, but the grin still threatening to break out.

"You called him Bassy! That's literally your top of the list nickname for him!" He started clapping and everyone around us stopped what they were doing to look at what was happening.

"Guys, clap along, our friend just subconsciously remembered something important!" He was cheery and everyone eventually started clapping in confusion. It was unbelievable and it made me feel shy.

"Jesus ,Chris ,no."

"Don't you mean 'Jesus Christ* no'?"

The claps slowly died down and everyone going back to what they were doing.

" Star Spangled  Banner... More like Star Spangled Banter. "I mumbled and they both started laughing.

"But really, doll. You just made my day a hundred times better than you already did." Sebastian flips another page to straighten the packet and sets it on the table.

"Hey, Chris! Stop third-wheeling! Joss needs you and Mackie for a scene!"

Sebastian's P.O.V.

The moment I heard the old nickname roll out of her tongue, I couldn't take that fluttery feeling off of my chest and my stomach. I'm pretty sure they're some sort of big butterflies. Maybe pterodactyls flapping in my stomach because they feel bigger. The good kind though.

Wow that sounds like a dick joke.

"You're welcome?" She was unsure but I could tell it was probably because she thinks it's not important.

Her cheeks were a tinge of pink and her hands were trying to cover it.

"Don't worry about it, okay? It's just been awhile since you called me that... I kinda missed it." I set my hands on the table, fiddling with my fingers, prolonging memories.

My eyes adored hers. The longing, plain to see.
Scrutinizing the topaz and black coffee melded perfectly by the gods accompanied by a black ring.

I have never mentioned this to anyone, but ever since the accident... Every waking moment and every second that I'm not with her, I'm afraid that it was all just a dream and that she was long gone. No more gorgeous eyes to look at. No more nerdy facts. No more late night Chinese take outs. No more weird laughs.

It gave me a greater appreciation of her well being and company. It scares me that there's a possibility that none of this is real.

Still smiling, I take the time to gape on her other features. Not until I landed back on those sad eyes.

"I'm sorry if I upset you." She said. She averted her gaze away from me and downcast on the furniture.

She looks back up and the look she gives me could only be something so despondent and disheartening.

I could physically feel my heart ache for the girl who makes me feel everything instead of just something.

Well right now I feel like everything is falling on me.

"Why- please don't be sorry." It was almost instinctive and automatic, the way I stood up and went by her side.

She was trembling when I plopped down next to her, so I put an arm around her shoulder. She wasn't crying but it felt like she was sobbing.

She relaxes, eventually at ease, as I rub circles on her shoulders and whispers things I know that would calm her.

I tilted my head a bit to the side to reach her ear.

"You'll be okay, alright? Nothing is your fault. You don't have to feel or say sorry about anything. You're fine the way you are...." She nods.

She takes the metal hand in hers, ignoring the fact that its there.

"See, you'll be fine. Hey. Maybe when we go to the park later we can get food. We can have fun and just forget about everything righ-" she tenses and my breath hitches for what was about to follow.

I done fucked up. why did I just- oh my god that was so insensitive Sebastian why would you-

She laughs.

She laughs at the horrible , unintentional pun.

I gave a nervous pitchy laugh and she mocks me, her laugh elevating a little louder.

"I think I got that covered" she lightly smacked my chest and then engulfs me into a hug.

"Thank you for being patient with me."
