New Beginnings

" In life, we learn to question the standard, but in youth, we are taught to stay blind to stay safe."

"Who is Rook?" Fallen's focus shifted between Yoongi and Taehyung. She huffed a sigh and cracked her knuckles. Fallen subconsciously put herself between him and the others; she faced Yoongi, completely cutting off their sight of him.

"That would be me, it's a nickname I wished would disappear...along with the one who gave it to me." Fallen's rounded eyes became harshly slanted, she turned her head to peer at the two demons; her killing intent three daggers across the hall.

"Ouch, there's no need to be so hostile," Taehyung snickered. His slender fingers traced the collar of his shirt, making it dip further down his chest. Fallen was annoyed at his boldness; her nails dug into the palms of her hands, leaving indents. She swallowed back the desire to sew his mouth shut.

"Taehyung...watch it before I remind you of the difference between us." The corners of Taehyung's mouth tilted downward, his eyes momentarily landed on Yoongi. He looked him up and down before breaking out into a smile.

"I've always loved this fiery side to you Rook, why don't we play like old times huh, what do you say...."

"Don't...you...dare, I'm warning you," Taehyung smirked at Fallen's shake in conviction. He could hear the slight quiver in her voice, and by the way that Jungkook scrunched his nose, she was losing control of her demon.

"My...little...puppet," Fallen moved before her thoughts could intervene. With impossible speed she broke past Jungkook, leaving him to stare at her after-image. Within a tenth of a second, her fingers were shaping the curve of Taehyung's neck. His look of sadism had broken, boggle-eyed, he stared up to his attacker in surprise.

It took everything within Fallen not to squeeze harder than she was. Her nails dug into his skin and she could feel the veins in his neck resist her grip. Taehyung's eyes became a sunkissed yellow; his tongue traced his lips.

"Oh...so you like it...rough?" Fallen's eyes flickered violet, her grip unknowingly becoming harsher. Taehyung gagged; the sound of his struggle made Jungkook snap out of the daze he was in an met Fallen's eyes. With her focus on Jungkook, she squeezed tighter; his face fueling the fire. A strange noise escaped from Taehyung's lips. His knees buckled, leaving Fallen to hold him up by his neck.

"You're gonna kill him," the warning tone in Jungkook's voice made Yoongi gulp down the building saliva in his mouth. He helplessly stared at the confrontational situation. Yoongi's words were stuck in his throat and his chest felt heavy. Each passing moment the shake in his hands became more aggressive.

Even now, he played the spectator, too afraid to step up. It will be alright, a hushed voice spoke into his ear. He turned and was met with an empty hallway. Was he hearing things? The sudden warm tingle in his chest made his hand rest on his breast. Go on, what happened to being friends? The comforting whisper made him well up with long lost confidence. The weight of two hands were pressed against his back, guiding him against what his mind told him not to do.

He slowly took steps towards Fallen and nervously approached her. He could feel his ribs dance to his heart pounding in his chest. The growing angst in his mind made him start to regret. Yoongi reached out to Fallen's shoulder and noticed how much his hands were trembling. A mixture of fear and adrenaline made his thoughts race. With moistened palms, his calloused fingers met her soft skin. All the red flags were going off in his mind so he froze like he always did.

Yoongi couldn't see her head past the fluff of her hair but could feel a tingle where their skin met. A warm sensation flowed into his veins. Yoongi's anxiety melted off his shoulders allowing them to relax. Unlike before, the pulling sensation was stronger and hit him in a heavier dose. His mind went elsewhere and lulled his eyes to close . The sound of a body hitting the ground and a hand lightly holding his wrist made them snap open.

"You can let go now," Fallen faced Yoongi, not letting go of his wrist. He awkwardly held eye contact with her; his lips stretched to a line, embarrassed by his actions. They stood there motionless, caught up in each other, both curious as to what the other was thinking. Ragged coughs and wheezing from Taehyung broke their bubble. Jungkook was already beside him helping him up.

"Could you guys get a room?" Jungkook had an attitude and wasn't pleased. He checked the demon's expression and easily pulled him onto his feet with a single arm. Taehyung rubbed the aching skin and pushed away Jungkook's arm from his waist. Jungkook was going to lecture him on angering Fallen until he caught a glimpse of the discoloration around Taehyung's neck. Even Jungkook knew he had enough for a day.

Yoongi retreated his hand back and cleared his throat. Fallen never took her eyes off him, the whole day was exhausting but she wasn't tired, to be more exact, she was refreshed and her anger subsided quickly. When she lost control, it was always in the same situation with the same results. Either Taehyung was on the brink of death or Jungkook was close to losing a limb. Either way, it always took her a while to calm her demon. But in a matter of moments, she was back to her level headed self.

What are you Min Yoongi?

The bell roared in the halls. People rushed out of rooms and filled the once empty space. Fallen left for her next class and stared at her hand. Her eyes roamed the values and textures that defined the bumps and curves. The longer she looked down at it, the clearer the image of the past was. The ugly image poured out into reality, almost painting a picture of her repressed memory.

"I'm sorry, please, wait."

"Get away from me, I'll do anything, just make it stop."

"Let's go our separate ways. I hate the sight of you, you just used me for pleasure."

Fallen sensed a soul calling out to her but ignored it. She felt her body ache a bit at the flashback. She roamed down the hall with her head filled with unnecessary thoughts. Yoongi hesitated before following after. He looked back at the two who were left to recollect themselves. A pang of guilt for not stopping her sooner made his shoulders slump. There was one thing that bothered him though, he noticed it while everything was going on but was too anxious to say anything. Yoongi meant to mention it, but with the flow of the situation, it slipped his mind. It would be a thought that he brushed to the back of his mind, and a moment of curiosity he will wish he mentioned before.

I wonder who that person was...watching us?

Jungkook took off his jacket and put it over Taehyung's shoulders. He popped the collar to hide his neck and mumbled in his ear.

"Permission granted, go eat and fix your neck," After the words registered Taehyung couldn't help the joy on his face. He brushed his wavy hair back and took his belt off his waist. He fiddled with it for a bit before giving Jungook a mischievous glance. He held up the looped leather and took steps back towards the office where his breakfast was probably pre-occupied.

"It's makeshift handcuffs," a few people looked between the two while some paced past them. Jungkook scoffed at his need to voice his misdeeds.

"I didn't ask," he mumbled. Taehyung gave a light smile and giggled down the hall. He stopped and turned, revealing his yellow eyes. The veins on Jungkook's forearm twitched at his carelessness. As soon as he felt Taehyung force his thoughts into his mind, he knew why he risked exposure.

"Sorry not sorry, I kiss and tell." You could hear the childishness in his tone.

Jungkook shook his head while rolling the sleeves of his shirt so that it rested on his shoulders. His bangs tickled his eyes so he searched his pockets for something to get it out of his face. He pulled out a torn up hair tie that was barely staying together. Jungkook's eyebrow raised at its state but the words of an old lover played in his mind.

You look more approachable with your bangs tied up like this.

He gathered the hair and messily tied it back into a ponytail. He leaned against the wall and waited for the hall to empty. He wanted to look through his schedule but then remembered that he slipped the folded papers into his jacket pocket when the situation became escalated.

Jungkook's nose scrunched at the perfume-like soul he scented. He wanted to wait for Taehyung but there was something strange about the fragrance. It was familiar yet completely unidentifiable. He followed it until he came across a corner. Jungkook stared at the beige wall and every hair on his neck stood up. A large presence was inching closer and closer to him; Jungkook's senses told him to be cautious and ready for the worst. The back of his throat felt itchy and his stomach unsettled. He hadn't felt this intimidated since the first time he met Rook.

Jungkook looked down at the small foot that peered around the corner. The petite stature of a girl, no taller than a child, came waddling out into the open. Jungkook noticed a lesser demon sticking onto her head. It comfortably sat like a child on a swing, kicking its feet near her forehead. His stomach tingled, he was hungry and hadn't absorbed a demon in days. He glanced at it, wondering if it's what he scented.

Jungkook stared at the care-free and tamed looking appetizer. The demon glanced up at him and cowered into itself, for the first time in ages Jungkook popped a quick smile. It lasted only a second but was from how drawn he was to his next meal. He walked towards her but was stopped by her sudden comment.

" Why are you staring at me, is there something wrong?" Jungkook snickered at her naivety. Humans were always running around and causing problems without knowing the world around them. Nothing more than children playing around in a lion's den.

"No, just looking at the little guy on your head," a thoughtless comment he expected no response to. The girl looked upward and back at him, she seemed to be contemplating. Pesky beings like these were an easy catch. They stuck to easily manipulated humans and exploited them. Unlike regular demons, he didn't feed off of humans, but his own kind. His nose was sensitive to the demonic and his body had animalistic instincts . His muscles were defined and crafted to help him survive. It was the result of his family line evolving to hunt what they feasted on.

Jungkook got close enough to spot the beauty mark on her cheek. They stood side by side facing opposite directions. Jungkook went to snatch the demon lurking over her. His movements braked when an overdramatic gasp escaped from the human below. His eyes dropped down onto her face. She eerily smiled; her eyes widened and bulged from their sockets. Before he was aware, Jungkook was gripping a small wrist that was outstretched toward his waist.

The student seemed to enjoy his reflexes, a giggle that sounded like a break in her sanity was muffled into her sleeve. The small demon jumped down and turned into a mesmerizing black butterfly before its body met the ground. It caught Jungkook's attention as it flew up onto the girl's finger like a tamed pet. It was perched there, its wings moving as if it was a real insect of nature. Jungkook's sensitive ears picked up the whispered words she uttered under her breath.

"So you see him too?"

Wow, that was an alright chapter. I wasn't too satisfied. The reason it took me a while to upload is that I was rewriting it over and over again. The choices I was making felt like they didn't match the characters and their interactions. Don't be afraid to point anything out in a comment or PM, readers opinions are important. Though, I will also ignore any rude or offensive comments. We don't have to agree but please be respectful.

I hope that everyone is staying safe and updated on all the news recently.

Yoongi's mixtape mishap, the riots, further released deaths by the police, etc. I don't want to speak too much on the topic here because this is a kpop book but I suggest that if you're not well versed in what I'm talking about that you research it because it feels like America is going to go through another revolution. Stay safe and stay healthy.
