Chapter 7 - Please

"Many people think being heartless or unfeeling is the only way of the world.
On the contrary, you'd be surprised at what one little word like 'please' could do for you."

Silence.
Pure, cold, untouched silence.

Both wolves sit opposite each other on the hard, cold forest floor. Neither of them say a word, as if that would be the one act that would make it all real.

"What the hell."
Marquése breaks the silence first and Kiara whips her head in his direction.

His eyes are focused solely on his stomach and in that moment she remembers that she had stabbed him.

"Oh my goddess."
She rushes over to him in a hurry, placing her hands on his stomach to stop the bleeding only for him to push them away.

"What are you doing! Let me help you!"

"I don't know if you remember but you're the one that stabbed me." He huffs out in anger but seems to change his mind on the decision because he takes her hands in his, stopping her movements.

"I'm not bleeding."

"What? Of course you are. T-there's blood."

"Kiara I'm not bleeding anymore. I think Luna healed me."

"Oh." She removes her hands to see for herself, seeing that he in fact was telling the truth.

Just as he was about to let go of her hands a bolt of sparks shots through his hand, traveling on to hers.
They both gasp in surprise, pulling apart from each other immediately.

"That was... something." she says shyly

"I've never felt that before."

"Me either." She agrees.
They both experienced the infamous 'sparks' mates share, the ones they had heard so much about.

"I think it's time we go home."
Marquése gets up and she follows, choosing not to comment on his definition of their current living spaces.

They both enter the house in silence and that's the same way they went to bed. Neither of them saying anything to the other.

"Kiara. Are you awake?"

She was awake but she pretended not to be.

"Look, I know that last night was something none of us expected but you have to talk to me. We have to figure this out somehow because trust me, it's as frightening for me as it is for you."

"Is it really? I just found out that the person that was supposed to love and protect me is my captor. You choked me and want me dead and I hate you. What's more messed up than that?"

"Oh I don't know maybe the fact that you find you're mate and not only do you hate that person too, but the fact that you didn't know you had a mate in the first place and now that you do you're wishing that it was anyone else in the whole world. Oh and you stabbed me!"

"You were keeping me hostage! You tried to kill me! Honestly this must be a joke, I don't even understand how this is possible much less that we didn't sense this."

"You didn't smell me because I- I'm different and maybe I didn't know you were my mate because I don't know what a mate should smell like. I just know that I liked your smell. As for as the whole sparks thing, we don't touch much and when we do we're fighting. We were always fighting each other so we didn't have time to feel it and fall into hopeless puppy love."
He sighs with frustration

"We must be the weirdest set of mates to ever walk this planet."

Despite their situations and all the negative feelings they were experiencing, they both laughed and in that Luna smiled down at them. They had no idea what was to come.

Marquése is left alone with his thoughts now because he took up the task of gathering breakfast. He does so near to the river because he wants to be close to Kiara.

She's busy taking a bath and he can't exactly see her but he can still hear her faint heartbeat a little distance away.

Last night was the ideal example of how his wolf would get angry and take over to bend her into submission. He hadn't expected her to do what she did. Plus after all the other surprises they got, he was wondering if she would even come back with him today.

The thoughts were in his head eating at his confidence, would he loose another person because of blind stupidity?
If she made a run for it right now she could probably loose him in the forest but at least she didn't know that.

"You know what? Screw this!" He yells to himself and Greyson mentally rolls his eyes.

"I get that this isn't the ideal situation and we can all be distasteful at times, but she needs to know that I-I-Shit."

"You ok there?" Kiara asks from behind Marquése, silently observing his internal turmoil.

"Uh yeah. I'm good."

"No food yet?"

"Uh no. It's been a slow day of hunting, I guess the rabbits know my tactic by now." He laughs nervously.

"Let's try over there."

After about an hour they finally get something suitable to eat and are both sitting down under a tree.

"So tell me, how did you know I was on your land?"

"Uh, it was just a normal day I guess. It was getting late and the sun had just set, gracing me with its beauty and spreading the last of its colors all around the sky. I was hunting so I continued roaming at the edge of my territory. I wasn't really in the mood for anymore hunting but my stomach wasn't filled yet.
I turned my snout up to the air and I sniffed when suddenly an unfamiliar scent blasted through my nose."

"Unfamiliar?"

"Yeah, guess I know what it was now. Greyson immediately caught on and yelled out that it was a wolf. He ripped control away from me and charged into the direction of you and our border. He crawled up but suddenly he stopped asking me about the smell again."

"And what did you tell him?"

"I didn't know what it was or who you were. So I uh, I told him to kill you."

"Wow. Well wasn't that hate at first sight."

"It wasn't like that,  you have to understand that no other wolf like you has ever came here before. At least not into my territory. I was just being cautious, maybe a little scared now that I think about it."

She completely disregarded his statement about 'no other wolf like you' and asked without hesitation, "You? Scared of me?"

He laughed at this,
"Trust me, you'd be surprised at what's out in the world to be afraid of." He said starring into her blue eyes with conviction.

"I have to leave."

"What?"

"I have to go home. You can't possibly tell me that your plan was to keep me here my whole life."

"It wasn't but that doesn't mean you can just go now. We're mates for crying out loud aren't we supposed to be figuring this out?"

"We will but I have to go home-"

"Kiara please-" his emotions get the better of him.

"I-"

"Are you kidding me?! What you need to be doing is to take care of me! And this, this is your home. I should be your home." Marquése shouted with absolute finality.

"Wow. Do you really think that I don't want that to be true? But what exactly did you expect huh? We got off on the worst foot possible. We-" Kiara sighs deciding to stop mid sentence.

She didn't know what to say, she understood but that didn't give him the right to be expressing this kind of caveman behavior.
The way he was acting it's like he didn't want her to leave, for this to be the past and that can only be described as delusional. Nothing else could explain why he was saying all this now especially after treating her this way.

"I get that we're mates, but we can't just shift from trying to kill each other to forgetting everything and being 'puppy love' happy."

"Don't you think I know that? I just want you to try. Please."

"Fine I'll try." She sighs

Night falls once again and Kiara thinks about how it's another day that she hasn't seen her loved ones. She's not a prisoner here anymore but it's like she still can't leave because something totally different is holding her hostage.

Not a sound is heard between the two as both of them now lay down in silence.
The only noise that could be heard was Kiara's consistent shifting back and forth.

Marquése jumps up, "Will you shut up?"

"What?"

"I said shut up, as in stop speaking so much"

"I didn't even say anything."

"Yes you did, I heard you over there complaining about how much your back hurts"

"What? I did not. I didn't say that out loud" She whispered so confused,
"I said it in my mind"

"What?" Now he's the one that's confused.

"I said it in my mind. Wait!
Oh my gosh! Did you just read my mind?!"

"N-no I didn't", He stutters out but he himself did not believe the words that are escaping his mouth. Marquése was in utter disbelief.

Did he?

"If you didn't read my mind then how did you know what I said?" Kiara practically screams at him and suddenly they both jump up and out of their makeshift beds.

"Marquése you did, you read my mind didn't you? How did you do that?"

Marquése hurries to drag on any scrap of clothing he could find. He pulls them on and rushes to get out of the place he calls home, only stopping at the entrance to stare at Kiara.
"Stay in here and sleep right there", he points to his bed.

She watches him as he barrels out the door and disappears, being enveloped into the darkness of night.

He only had one thought on his mind in that moment.

What in the six pitiful hells had just happened?!"
