"You're such a loser, Castiel."
"Oh, my apologies."
"It was a joke, doofus."
Natalia and Castiel have been in Purgatory together for a few months. Their friendship grew stronger each day, along with their trusts towards one another.
The Leviathan hasn't been this close to anyone ever, and she relishes the fact she can now call the Angel a friend. He made her feel at ease, and if she was ever in danger, she knew he would protect her. Natalia would of course do the same for the Seraph.
Castiel couldn't pin point why, but Natalia made him feel calm, not self loathing and a disgrace like he usually felt. Of all the Leviathan he met, Natalia was the kindest and nicest out there. She was definitely different in a good way.
The friends were currently walking through the woods and chatting amongst themselves. This would seem strange to many, but they both knew they couldn't escape, so the pair tried to live peacefully in Purgatory as best as they could.
"I've never made a nickname for you yet," Natalia said as she stepped over the tall grass.
"My friends like to call me Cas a lot," the Seraph replied. His dirty trench coat got stuck on a branch, and he tugged it free.
"Cas," she said, testing the name out, "I like it."
"Would it be to your satisfaction if I called you Talia?" The angel had a smile on his face, liking the way she said his nickname.
She grinned back at him. "I love it."
She looked at Castiel and suddenly threw her hands up in the air, her sword dancing in her fingertips. A half smile was stuck on her face.
"Are you alright, Natalia?" The Seraph asked in his always gruff voice.
She let out a small laugh. "I just realized that we're fucked."
"How so?"
"We are miles from our safe haven and it's beginning to get dark out. The GW's will be coming out soon."
Castiel tilted his head, confusion swarming his features. "I do not understand. What are GW's?"
"Gorilla-Wolves," she said gravely. He didn't know what they were, but by the sound of his friend's voice, he knew it wasn't a good thing.
"I assume they are not a good thing." Natalia scoffed and nodded her head in agreement.
She looked up at the sky, seeing its gray color darken. The trees curving branches reached down and moved slowly together then apart, looking as if they were hands clapping. Clapping for their deaths. A low howl of wind sounded, and with it carried a sound of
paws hitting the soil.
"We have to leave, now." Gone was the playful demeanor she possessed, it was now filled with seriousness and urgency. Castiel noticed this immediately and observer his surroundings.
He looked around, trying to see if he could spot the creatures. He had no such luck, for his eyesight was good, but not as good compared to a Leviathan's. Castiel raised his arm a bit, and an Angel Blade slid out. He gripped it tightly, the cool heavenly metal pressing into his skin.
The blade was a few inches shorter than an Archangel Blade, and his was covered in mud. The tip even had dried angel blood on it. Grimacing, he looked back over to Natalia, only not to see her next to him.
"Come on, Cas! We have to leave now." She instructed from a few yards away. He quickly joined her side and they ran from the beasts.
It was like they were actually in Hell.
The forest was always dark, but this was a different kind of darkness. It was eerie and opaque. There was no wind at all, and Purgatory seemed to be frozen in time. The trees branches stilled, as if they too were scared of the quadrupeds.
Natalia started to panic. She dealt with the Gorrila-Wolves only a handful of times, and each time was worse than the last. The creatures weren't something you mess with. And this was coming from a Leviathan.
Her breath was starting to come short the longer the duo ran. Her weapon was grasped in her hand, but it would not help them much. Natalia's hair flew behind her, some braids even started to fall out. She paid this no mind though.
The Leviathan glanced behind her, seeing Castiel a few steps behind but still close. He looked determined to get to safety, but his blue eyes held uncertainty. Natalia knew her face looked the same.
Their bad luck seemed to multiply as the spell on the forest was broken. It sounded like thunder, when in reality it was paws striking the ground. The wolves were unnaturally fast, and this was a great advantage to them. Their muscular frames weaved through the trees, toying with the Leviathan and Angel. And it was working.
The friends stopped in their tracks, doubling over and tried to regain their breath. It was no use, we're gonna have to fight them Natalia told herself. She straightened herself up and gripped her sword. Her eyes scanned their surrounds, watching the beasts with a glare. She slowly moved over to Castiel and stood in front of him, trying to protect him.
The Gorilla-Wolves slowly stalked out of the shadows, making their presence known. Natalia counted four of them.
The first thing you would notice was their eyes. They were the color of blood. They sat high on top of the head, unlike a wolf's where they were above the middle of the face.
Their front legs seemed to look and move as a gorilla's when they walked on all fours. They stalked closer, their muscles rippling as they moved. The tail did not resemble a wolfs or gorillas, but more of a cats. It was slender and flexible.
"We're screwed. I'm sorry, Cas," Natalia said in a melancholy voice. The GW's were a few feet away now, their mouths open, revealing bloodstained canines. Their lips curled back and a snarl vibrated in their throats.
Natalia calculated that they had only a few seconds before they attacked. She slowly raised her weapon and got in a fighting stance. Her slender fingers twitched as she dug her nails into the handle.
When the first quadruped attacked, the Leviathan was ready. With a yell, she swung her weapon, hitting the wolf blindly. She struck the snout, and a mixture of gray and black blood oozed out. The being glared at the leviathan and leaped onto her. She fell backwards and on to the ground, her weapon laying a few feet away.
The wolf snapped its jaws, saliva going everywhere. She held onto its front legs, and tried pushing it off. The GW's sharp talons swung wildly, and successfully hitting her forehead. She yelled out and kicked the animal away. She finally stood up and grasped the sword.
Turning towards the monstrous being, she grabbed its neck and pushed it to the ground. With the tip of her blade, she swiped it across the jugular line. Blood spurred out, hitting her face. The Gorilla-Wolf yelped out, and then died.
Pain suddenly erupted to her back, and Natalia screamed. Throwing her hands back, she grabbed the quadruped and threw it to the ground. It snarled and quickly got back up. They circled each other, and suddenly another one joined. The two beasts jumped at her, but her sword beat them. The weapon sliced the stomach of GW while the other bit her leg.
She stabbed the ribcage of one and it fell onto the ground. The GW on her leg was latched on tight to her thigh. She punched it in the eye, making it whimper and jump back.
Natalia opened her mouth, showing her sharp teeth and serpent tongue. She quickly bit down on the beast, quickly ending its life. Blood flew in every direction as she feasted.
A few moments later, she stood up and breathed heavily. Her body was covered in a mixture of hers and the Gorilla-Wolf's blood. The Angel suddenly came to her mind and she quickly looked around.
"Cas?" She called out.
Natalia could see the bodies of four monsters, but not her angel. Once she walks to the tree line, she sees him slumped against a tree, cuts covering him, glowing with grace and blood. With a cry, she ran to him and kneeled against his body.
"C-Cas? Cas? Hey, stay with me," the leviathan urged. Castiel looked at her and let out a grunt. He would be okay, but his wounds would take awhile to heal.
As he started to lose consciousness, he heard her voice shake and say, "I-I won't let anything else happen to you, Cas. I promise."
