Chapter 17

"What the hell was that?" Dean exclaims before anyone could process the video. It shook them all to the core, seeing the explosion and death on the screen.

Cas, still in shock, shakes his head. "I don't know. I didn't -- I would never ask an Angel to sacrifice himself to kill innocents." His voice got stronger towards the end of his sentence, his face full of shock.

"I'm gonna be sick," he murmured. Natalia stood closer to him, trying to calm him down with her presence. His face was wild, fear and panic evident in his eyes.

"Cas, why would an Angel blow up a colonel scoop's in your name?" Sam questioned.

"That's not what he was doing," Hannah interrupted for the fourth fucking time. "Roll it back."

The guy at the computer did as he was told. She told him to stop when the video showed the image of the child. "That was an Angel -- Esther."

"Well obviously it was an Angel," Natalia stated.

"Care to explain, Nat?" Dean asked.

She shrugged and pointed towards the girl. "You can see her Grace through the video, and her broken wings. It's quite obvious."

"We can't see Grace or wings," Sam stated. The Leviathan shrugged her shoulders again, muttering how dumb humans were.

"Wait," Dean said, holding his had up. "If you can see her wings, can you see Cas'?"

She glanced at Castiel, his eyes were already on her, he of course already knew the answer. "Yes, it's not a big deal, is it?"

"Guys, she's one of Metatron's," Hannah said, gaining everyone's attention and focusing on the topic at hand.

"So, this was some kind of hit?" Sam asked, his eyebrows raised extraordinarily high.

"I don't know," Cas replied back.

"Stop saying you don't know," Dean said harshly.

"You can't think I would allow something like this." The Seraph's face was full of anger, his voice deeper than usual.

"Cas, I know you try to be a good guy, okay? I do. You try. But what you got here, this is a-a freakin' cult."

"Dean," Cas warned.

"And the last time you had this kind of juice, you did kill humans and Angels, and you did nothing but lie to me and Sam about it the whole time damn time!" Dean shouted.

Natalia pushed Cas out of the way and stood in front of Dean, her face full of insanity. She was starting to consider the Winchester as a friend, but she immediately lost her trust in him.

"Back off, Dean. Don't you see how upset Cas is over this? It's not his fucking fault about the God thing, all he wanted to do was help!" She yelled in his face, pushing him back.

Dean's gaze became murderous as he looked at Natalia. Before he could do anything, Sam said, "Can we take this somewhere else, guys?"

So now they were in Castiel's office, still fighting.

"Will you stow the baggage, Dean. Look, we have a case. Let's work it." Sam's voice was stern and right to the point, trying to get ahold of the situation.

"Cas, did you know the Angel in that video?"

With his back facing the wall, Cas replied. "Yes. His name was Oren. He was a new recruit. He worked in community outreach."

"What does that mean?" Talia asked.

"Some of my troops are stationed at a local hospital. They help where they can. Minor miracles -- it's nothing that would draw attention."

Talia smiled slightly, from what she could put together, Cas was always thinking of others before thinking about himself. It was very generous of him to think of the humans' needs as well as tracking down Metatron.

"So, what was he doing in that video, with the stabbing?" Sam asked him.

"The enochian runes that were carved in his chest, I think they were meant to focus energy."

"So," Talia added, "When he stabbed himself, it unleashed all the power." Castiel nodded his head, telling her she was correct.

"What about the girl? What happened to her?" Sam once again asked. In Talia's opinion, he asked too many questions. She couldn't blame him though, her mind was not up to date with this plane of existence, it was far more advanced.

"If she was the target, if the blast was focused on her, then more likely than not, she -- she was atomized."

holy fucking shit on a stick.

"So, what do we do now?" Cas asked solemnly.

"Well, you don't do jack. Me and Sam head to the hospital, see if we can find somebody who knew this... walking nuke," Dean said.

"Hold on these are my people, I can help," Cas argued back.

"Well, that's sort of the problem. I mean, the Manson girls aren't gonna give us a straight answer with Charlie in the room, so just hang back."

"So, I should just sit here?" Cas asked, his face full of bewilderment.

"Pretty much, you'll have Nat here with you though. Lover girl has been dying to see you."

"Screw you, Dean," Natalia shot at him.

"No." Was Cas' response back. His face was serious, amusement and sincerity completely erased. "If you don't want my help, then I will follow Josiah's trail to Colorado. I have to do something, Dean."

"All right, fine. But Sam's coming when you."

"What?" Sam said in disbelief.

"Because you don't trust me?" Cas walked forward, his facial expression was one of a pissed Angel.

"To help. Nat, you're with me."

•••

"What do I call you?" Dean had dragged Natalia to the interrogation room, the suspect being one of Cas' Angels. Dean say down across from her while Talia stood in the corner, her sword swinging loosely from her fingertips.

"My Angelic name is 18 syllables long. Let's stick with Flagstaff," She said calmly. The Leviathan snorted in the corner, earning her a glare from Dean and a smile from Flagstaff.

"Copy. So, you knew this Oren guy?"

"We worked together at the hospital. He was a joy -- bright, full of light," she smiled at the ground, reminiscing in the good days with him.

"Yeah, I hear he had a real explosive personality."

Talia stood up straight. "Knock it off, Winchester."

Flagstaff was obviously offended. Her body was stiff and her eyes were guarded. "Do you think this is a joke?"

"Do you see me laughing?"

A pause, and then, "Is there anything else you can tell me about him? For example, why he'd light up his own fuse."

Flagstaff held a pissed off expression in her face. "No. Can I go? I have lives to save." She glanced at Natalia.

"Welcome to the club," was Dean's response. This made the Angel laugh. The Leviathan shifted on her feet, she could tell something bad was about to happen.

"Something funny?" Dean asked, his teeth clenched and hands clasped in front of him. The Angel smirked.

"Not funny "ha ha." But you thinking you help people -- it's amusing. I help people. A clogged artery here, a tumor there. I do good in this world. You -- you believe every problem can be solved with a gun. You okay the hero, but underneath the hype, you're a killer with oceans of blood on his hands. I hate men like you, and i'm sure your bitch would agree with me."

It was very predictable with what happened next. First, Dean nodded his head a bit, as if he agreed with her. A millisecond later, he abruptly got up and threw the metal table to the side. He grabbed hold of the Angel's chair she was sitting in and threw her to the ground. Natalia immediately strode toward the man, a glare set on her face.

"Dean, stop," she said in a low voice. He ignored her and took out his Angel Blade.

"Honey, there ain't no other men like me."

Flagstaff was scared out of her mind, she held up her hands as she stared into Dean's murderous gaze. "Don't... please."

Nat was beside the hunter, her hand gripping his shoulder tightly. "Dean, back off." He shook her arm off and continued to talk to the woman on the floor.

"Oren. Friends?" he demanded.

"Constantine... and Tessa," she spilled.

Dean's grip slightly loosened, his features becoming confused. "Tessa? The Reaper, Tessa?"

"You know her?"

•••

Later that night, the duo went to a theatre of sorts, waiting for this Tessa to arrive. Natalia scanned the area, looking for threats or anything that could be harmful. Only humans walked by, arm in arm with their loved ones. The couples' faces shone love and care for each other, it's was something she envied of the humans. She envied them for having love, for having someone to care for them. It made her feel cold inside -- empty.

Dean's low voice brought her out of her day dreaming. A women with long dark hair and a scowl on her face was about to walk up the stairs.

"Howdy, Tessa." This made the woman freeze, and then then around. Her eyes locked with the hunters. The Leviathan came out from the shadows, a smirk on her face. Dean walked toward her, his finds in his jeans pockets.

"You're supposed to be working at the hospital tonight, But when i stopped by, you were gone. So was an ambulance." He was now in front of her, his tone dark and eerie. He glanced at the medical mobile and then back to her. "Pro tip -- they all have GPS."

"Good to know," was the Woman's smooth response. "So you're here. Why? You just love musical theatre?"

"We need to talk," Tania finally spoke up, gaining everyone's attention. She walked forward, her boots making a loud noise on the wet cobblestone.

"Can't. Sorta got a date." Tessa began to turn away, but the Winchester grabbed her shoulder and faced her forward. He saw red cuts on her neck.

"Not happening," He warned her. Tessa tried to get out of his grip, but Dean wouldn't back down easily. He shoved a handcuff on her hand and pushed the Reaper against a wall. Talia sighed and lazily walked towards them.

"Where's the other one? Where's Constantine?" Talia asked as Dean's grip became harder on Tessa. She looked at both of them with fear in her dark eyes.
