Alistar watched the small fish in the pond, everyday he came to the pond to watch the fish. He heard from his nursemaid his mother liked the pond that she had fish added to it and would sit beside it for hours while she was pregnant with him.

He listened to his father speak to his friends in the gardens, but he wanted to be here, close to his mother. He smiled as the fish came close to his hands, they liked him and he liked them. He continued to listen to his father talk while he watched them intertwine with one another in a frenzy of movement.

As he continued to watch he no longer heard his father making anymore noise, he looked to the side to see he was walking away with these esteemed friends of his. He waved goodbye but saw he was not paying any attention to him. He frowned, small tears dripping into the pond. The fish seemed to feed on these tears.

He stood up wiping his tears.

He would make his own fun, without his father.

His father never had time for him, he didn't need to wait.

He quickly ran off, he wanted to spend time on his own. He made his way towards the kitchen. He was small, only nine at the time, and he had still never been outside of the castle walls but for him it was normal he didn't expect to ever leave. His father told him people that were scary lived outside the walls. He quickly entered the kitchen, and he found that there was not only one but multiple cakes set out for that days dinner. He smiled as he quickly snatched one off the counter, he hid under the counter tables while he ate his cake.

The head cook had seen him steal the food but he new it was in good faith, the kid was alone in their big world and he deserved it. Alistar soon headed off to his room to hide. He spoke to the picture of his mother on the wall until he fell asleep.
