Chapter 42: "You should be the hero of ho-wait that came out as wrong."

Bakugo and Shinso were perfectly sure by then that the choices were completely rigged. They kept getting paired up for no actual reason. They did tolerate each other, if only for the fear of Aizawa, but still. Or that's what they liked to say to those who asked. Bakugo still wasn't that into the idea of "friends" and Shinso was.....well, Shinso was Shinso.

"And thus, I see we have been cursed with Shonen luck," Shinso spoke dramatically as they started on the path for the Walk Of The Brave.

"The what luck now?" Bakugo said, irritated.

"You know," Shinso made vague hand gestures, "Where two people keep getting paired up even if they cannot stand each other."

"No," Bakugo said shortly, "This is too much for me to digest."

"Oh really," Shinso deadpanned, "How many hot peppers did you consume today?"

"I chugged a bottle of hot sauce if that counts."

"I think you could be the hero of ho—, wait that came out wrong."

"You bet," Bakugo snorted, "Copycat would be so displeased."

"Hm?"

"Isn't it obvious? He had a crush on you, that dumb fuck."

Shinso stopped. Bakugo turned around to see him barely controlling his laughter. He failed and fell on the ground laughing a short time after.

"He has a what now?" Shinso said, gasping for air, "I thought he hated the guts of 1-A."

"Yes," Bakugo's lips twitched, "But you are the oh so special Valentine exception."

"Stop," Shinso wiped his eyes, "This is too much for me to digest."

"H o w m u c h o f c a t f o o d d i d y o u e a t t o d a y?"

"That's a whole new low, even for you, Bakugo."

Just then a fiery trail blazed up the mountain side. Shinso ceased laughing and stood up in shock, all signs of amusement disappearing from his face. Bakugo's eyes narrowed in a frown, and he automatically assumed a defensive stance. Shinso wasn't exactly used to combat of that level, but he took a battle stance seeing Bakugo.

The fire was blue so they hoped that it wasn't Shoto Todoroki who had come. They didn't have much time to contemplate however, as gas entered the forest. Bakugo slammed a hand over his and Shinso's face, perfectly aware of the latter's reaction time. Shinso replaced Bakugo's hand with his own, looking incredibly displeased with the entire situation.

An "extra" reached them with a gas mask, courtesy of Momo, and they could breathe again.

"Is this the kind of scrapes the Hero Course keeps getting into?"

"Yeah, pretty much a regular occurrence."

Shinso shook his head in exasperation at Bakugo's answer.

"One would think that it's a cool course, but inside it's like a slaughterhouse."

Bakugo gave him a long look before turning towards where the smoke was thickening.

"This attack is probably caused by a Quirk. Even if it isn't, it would be wise to take the person out who has the gas cylinder. These masks wouldn't last for too long."

"And therefore, logically speaking, the person would be at the center where the density of the smoke was the most. And basically without our weapons we have to take down a villain. Okay, cool."

Shinso was taking some time to come to terms with the situation, but he ran behind Bakugo who gave him an irritated look.

"I didn't say that YOU have to come," he snapped.

"You didn't say that I cannot come either. Checkmate," Shinso spoke, catching up with him.

When the attack had rung out, Eraserhead had been teaching the students, a rod in his hand, his attention on the class and blackboard. However, soon enough, a wave of telepathy rang out in the group, and he frowned, putting his hand to his ears to listen.

What he heard was that, villains had attacked this place, and that there was a giant lizard waving a bunch of knives tied together on top of each other, chanting Stain's name (as if he hadn't had enough of that man) and a man was attracting things to himself using a giant rock. There were suspected to be more villains because a blue fiery trail was visible on the mountainside.

"Everyone here, wait," he spoke, rushing out, gripping his capture weapon. This was bad, and he was sincerely getting tired of villains targetting his students.

Dabi jumped off from his perch on the top of the rocks.

"I am going into the forest," he announced.

"Fine. Just try not to kill anyone," Todoroki said, sounding disinterested.

"Alright, Mr. Noble," he gave him a mock salute and called for Kurogiri to warp him to the forest.

Aizawa found himself looking at a man covered with burns and staples. Immediately he was accosted by a blue flame, hot enough to singe his hair even if he had jumped just at a moment's notice.

"Ah, I see, this is what makes a pro," the man spoke, looking at him like he was an interesting display at a show.

"You bet," the pro hero erased his Quirk and bound him with his capture weapon. He pinned him to the ground for extra safety, holding one of his arms at a dangerous angle.

"Why are you here?" he said, actually breaking his arm because of how fragile it was.

"Wouldn't you like to know......Eraserhead?"

Aizawa's shock at seeing how easily the bone broke made him start forward before he began decomposing.

Aizawa watched on as he melted to mud, saying, "You love your students, don't you, Eraserhead? Let's see for how much longer you can protect them."

The ominous tone didn't sit well with him as he ran to where he could find a way to convey the telepath.

Bakugo and Shinso heard the message from Eraserhead ring out well and clear in their heads. A pre-Bakugo would have jumped at the chance to fight the villains, but now his first reaction was to actually look around for signs of danger.

"You have been given the permission to fight by pro hero Eraserhead."

Todoroki made a frozen slide from the mountain side, deciding to check out what was going on in the forest. Toga had entered it with incredible enthusiasm, her knife swinging wildly. Spinner had charged in immediately, chanting Stain's name as if he was some God. Magne had shrugged and followed the reptile, just to cause chaos.

It might have looked like a messy operation at first (indeed it was with Tomura's reasoning), but it was technically rigged. Dabi had been let onto it, because he just liked irritating Tomura. The rest. Well, the rest assumed that it was a recruiting mission.

"Shinso wouldn't join the League of Villains. Not over his dead body. But I suppose, Todoroki-kun, you do know my intentions. I just hope that All Might is as Mighty as they claim. Oh and, I think it would be worthwhile if they got Kacchan here too. He may or may not have gotten One For All by now."

Todoroki trusted Izuku with his life, but that didn't mean that he was incredibly on board with this mission. Especially because he didn't feel a thing, the scalding heat from Dabi's flames was just a physical sensation that ebbed away soon after.

He landed in a part of the forest to see Toga cackling maniacally with a knife and too very terrified UA students trying to defend themselves.

Only the supreme power of Izuku's calculations of Toga's psychoticness would save those two now.

(And Todoroki's sanity along with that).

A/N: This chapter has been brought to you by the supreme power of this author's utter disregard for sticking to believable personalities. On the other hand, writing Bakugo and Shinso banter is really exciting.

Besides, I need something to cure my shock from chapter 285.
