Race Laps With Me

Every morning, Jin is the first one up and ready to start the day. He heads right to the kitchen to make breakfast. The boys, already up and antsy, tummies hungry, listen for Jin and follow him because they know he always feeds them first.

Jin sits their food bowls down next to each other as he does each morning when they come with him to the kitchen. But Tannie always pushes his food bowl across the kitchen floor far away from Bam because he has a habit of gobbling down his food and then nosing his way into Tannie's bowl.

As usual, Bam softly pads over to Tannie, thinking he can just nose his way into his bowl. A little growl and a nip from Tannie, "Out of my food. My dad got this for me."

He lifts his head proudly, "It's vet-approved and by prescription only."

"But, Tan, I'm still hungry," whines Bam as he looks longingly at Tannie's dish of food. He wants to try the new food. It smells so delicious.

Tannie laughs, "Just like your dad, always hungry." Bam goes to nose into the bowl, but Tannie puts his little paw over his dish and gives a soft warning growl.

Disappointed he can't eat more, Bam woofs, "Aw dude, cut me some slack. I'm a growing boy."

"Don't call me, dude; I'm your hyung." Tannie goes back to eating, and Bam dejectedly walks away to look in his bowl, hoping that he will somehow find more food in it. He sighs and lies in front of the empty bowl, hoping that his dad will come in and give him more, thinking he hasn't been fed yet. As he waits, he gets a wonderful idea.

"Hey, hyung, you wanna race laps in the backyard with me today when we go out?"

"Laps? Are you kidding? With my cute short legs, you're on your 7th lap while I'm still on my first, no thank you."

Trying to distract Bam so he could finish eating, Tannie says, "Oh, look, a squirrel in the backyard."

Bam runs to the sliding glass door, scanning the backyard for any sign of Fred. He is always ready to play Chase Me if Tannie doesn't come out to play. Bam likes Fred; he is fast and has the best squirrel jokes.

Meanwhile, Tannie is eating, trying not to laugh and choke on his kibble, "Works every time."

Taehyung comes shuffling into the kitchen, still half asleep and in his pajamas, his hair all a mess. He squats down by Tannie and then picks him up in his arms, kissing him on the top of the head.

"Good morning, Tan. Is your breakfast yummy?"

Tannie thought the new food was very yummy, which was even more reason not to let Bam eat it. He liked this new food better than the last one the Vet told his dad to give him.

Giving a few short woofs, Tannie starts to squirm. Taehyung gives him another kiss, "Good, I'm glad you like it."

Tannie squirms to get away after quickly giving his dad a good morning lick on the chin. 'I love you, Dad, but EW . . . . morning breath.'

This time, he gives a little louder woof, "Let me down."

Tae lets him go and smiles as Tannie stands beside Bam at the sliding door to the backyard.

"Breakfast is ready if you want some." Says Jin as he fixes himself a plate.

Taehyung sits beside him after filling his plate, "Thanks, hyung, it looks good."

Jin draws away from Taehyung, "Ew, morning breath. Go brush your teeth, then come back and eat."

Taehyung looks at him, confused. "Brush my teeth before I eat, and then you make me brush my teeth after I eat. Can't I just eat, brush, and be done?"

"Not if you're going to be sitting by me talking first thing in the morning." says Jin with an 'I smell something stinky face.'

Taehyung doesn't feel like brushing his teeth yet. He is hungry, so he picks up his plate and starts walking out of the kitchen.

"Where are you going?" asks Jin.

Tae reaches the sliding glass door and opens it with his free hand. "I'm letting the dogs out," he says.

As he goes out with the dogs, Jin hears Taehyung singing, *"Who let the dogs out? Woof, woof, woof, woof, woof . . . I did."

Jin almost choked on a mouth full of eggs, laughing.
