So what does this mean? It means when you're writing, you might be doing terribly, screwing up, making characters that make no sense and plots that make no sense, you might have your doubts, your regrets, you might not believe you can ever really write something that matters.
But you are writing. That's 90% of the battle right there. Sitting down and picking up your pencil. Or your laptop or whatever.

This quote is not from some famous person, it's from the guy running the strong-dude hammer challenge at the local renaissance fair. And this is what he said when lil 9-year-old Griffin blooped the counter up about six inches out of the 40 feet required to win.
"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent."
You guys are probably seeing a theme here. The theory is that if I write enough, I will eventually produce something that does not suck. I write a LOT more stuff than I post on here.
ARTIST / CREATIVE PERSON:
Brandon Sanderson. This guy writes a RIDICULOUS amount of books, and they're all good. It's ridiculous.
BOOK / AUTHOR:
I dunno. Two of my favorite books are the Hobbit (and other Tolkein stuff) and the Martian. So I guess those two authors, but for different reasons: Tolkein's stuff because of the incredible world building and depth and scope, the Martian because it's frankly hilarious and includes a lot of physics.

Can we just take a moment to appreciate how genuinely insightful this song is?

Well, the years start coming and they don't stop coming. These rules we're being given and told don't make sense, but we hit the ground running. It doesn't make sense not to live for fun. Maybe you end up doing well, but you won't be happy. It's a really big world, and there's so many other ways to explore it than just the beaten track. How will we know what the world is like if we don't get a chance to see it? How will the world know what we're like if we never give it a chance to see us?
But the thing is, we're doing pretty okay. We've got what it takes. We can make a difference right here, right now, and have fun doing it. We can do incredible things.
It's a cool place. But they say it gets worse. We think we're ready now, we should just wait until we grow up and see just how screwed up the world really is. But I'm not so sure I agree: There's something missing from that picture. This cold picture of the world isn't everything. It doesn't stand up to a little heat. Why should we be bound by it? It's a crazy, weird, chaotic world. And there's a lot of danger, but there's just as much possibility.

Somebody once asked me to give them a hand in breaking out of the rut in their life they found themselves in. And I kind of agreed with that: I could use a little help breaking out myself. We could all use a little change.
