Skinny Love by thefangirlofhp is honestly one of the best, if not the best, Legolas fanfics I have ever read.

Lemme tell you why.

The book doesn't take place in Middle-Earth, which is a nice change. Instead, Legolas lives in our modern world battling his own inner demons. Soon enough, however, Livie Taylor takes on the roll of his best friend, showing him that he doesn't have to endure alone.

Now, I'm going to be harshly honest. At the beginning of the story I almost quit and went to find another. But I'm so glad I didn't. As you read this story, the writing gets sooo much better and so does the plot (and the character arcs are 👌🏻 spot on 👌🏻). Almost every night I read this I told myself "okay, you HAVE to go to bed at 12, at the latest 1." Buuuut... I was up until three, quickly scrolling to the next chapter before I could tell myself "stop."

I realllyyyy wanna say so much more about this, I could write an entire essay on why I love it, but that ventures into spoiler land. But I will say, the conflicts are realistic—because not everything is perfect. Also, it teaches multiple important "lessons"—and that's one of the reasons why I loved it so much.

And yes, you nerds, it does eventually tie in the events of Lord of the Rings. Quite well and creatively, if I may say.

Much angst. Much anger. Much squeals. And... much tears.

Near the end, I actually had to stop, prepare myself, and wait until I was ready to read it. Took me like three weeks but *shrugs*
