After All...
Third Person
When he died, Poseidon went into a status of awake, but dead. A form where though he could see everything around him, and hear it too, and almost feel alive, nobody could see him. His body phased right through everyone he tried to talk to, and his screams would go unheard to the living.
This could only be described as a ghost, and how terrible it was to be one. Stuck between living and dead for what seemed to be, forever.
But as he aimlessly walked the streets of Atlantis, wandering further from his kingdom, Poseidon would find he wasn't the only one.
He found himself drifting into a tunnel in Sector Four, finding a large shell base with all sorts of people running around inside. Out of them all, there were two that caught his eye. The first was a purple kraken with yellow eyes. A lot smaller than he was used to, but seemed tall compared to the other people with him. By the way he moved and spoke, he had to be the leader. Then there was his shadow. Much bigger than him and had an indigo body with orange eyes, female no doubt, and also a kraken.
She followed behind him, a faint smile as she watched him work. At first, the old king found it strange that he never acknowledged her, but it was until he phased right through he when he suddenly turned around, that he truly understood. She was a ghost, like him.
Her eyes lifted when he called out to her, but her gaze hardened when she saw him. Poseidon, though uncomfortable, had to go with it. He did most likely cause her death, it was justified.
She hesitantly made her way over to him, crossing her arms as she did. "Poseidon. I see you did not meet a pleasant fate." She kept her tone hostile and her body guarded.
Poseidon nodded grimly and cleared his throat. "My apologizes for anything I might have done to wrong you Miss-..?" He prompted, hoping to get a name.
The kraken paused but finally said it at last. "Snapdragon." She told him. "And I don't care about what you did to me." Snapdragon told him firmly.
Poseidon blinked in surprise. "What is it then?"
Though she still held a resentment for him, her body softened just thinking about it. She turned around right as the purple kraken descended down the stairs. "I care about what you did to me son." She said softly.
Oh. Poseidon realized. That's her son.
Snapdragon sighed deeply and began to follow after her son. As Poseidon followed her, she began to sing.
"What would a mother not do for her child? What lengths would a mother not go?" She sang as she watched him visit a crab in what looked like a restaurant. Snapdragon's memories starts to swim as she approached him, and so desperately wished she could hold him in her arms. "There's a bond that exists between mother and child, with no end for how strong it can grow."
Her mind began to travel back to the first time she ever held the child. When he was just born. "It's a promise of life between mother and child, it begins from the moment of birth." She remembered looking right at him as he squirmed lightly in her arms, and truly realizing that she was now a mother. "And you're shaken to your soul," Her voice trembled with emotion. "With an ache you've never known."
It only grew worse when he first opened up his eyes and revealed his yellow eyes. She remembered the tears streaming down her face as she peered into his eyes. "And you look into their eyes, and find you're looking in your own..."
Snapdragon couldn't hold it in anymore, know clutching close to her heart as the memory consumed her.
"And there's a pain you can't imagine, a special type of torture you can feel." It only grew worse as she remembered all the pain and suffering she watched him bare, and even escalating to remembering thinking he was going to die. "A cut that bleeds from somewhere deep inside you, a past regret you cannot heal."
Unable to hold it in anymore, Poseidon nearly jumped back as Snapdragon lifted her head to the heavens, now wailing, and still keeping up her song. "And no one guesses all the while you're praying! That screamed little stranger in your arms!" She remembered how small he was, and wishing and hoping that he would not break in her arms.
Eyes blurred, she faced her son again, now glad that he couldn't see her distressed like this. "Might just grow up and save you after all!"
Her breath slowed, but the emotions remained the same. She gulped. "Might just grow up and save you after all..."
It took her a while for her to continue, but after watching her son laugh and joke with the cook, she smiled softly. "What would a mother not do for her child? What heights would a mother not climb?"
She sighed, waltzing over to his side and tried to place a hand on his shoulder. "There's a bond that exists between mother and child, and it only gets deeper with time." Even though she died, Snapdragon never stopped loving her son with everything she had.
She sighed, withdrawing her hand, knowing that if she continued to try and hold her son again, it would only bring pain. "It's a promise of life between mother and child..."
Then came the memory of watching a sword get driven through his stomach, making her wince and tremble. "And to break it, there's no greater pain. And you're shaken to your soul with an ache you can't erase!"
She turned and faced Poseidon, whose mouth was wide open in shock. She went to wipe her eyes of tears, but found she couldn't. "Like the tears you've never cried but keep scrubbing off your face! Cause there's a pain you can't imagine," She marched forward, grabbing Poseidon, finding she could touch him. "A little talk that keeps you wide awake."
She pulled him close, narrowing her eyes. "That somehow turns to bold determination, that you'll never make the same mistake!" Snapdragon turned to her son again, eyes blazing with fire. "And so you vow to feed your little future! Assuring that his talent, poise and charm, might just grow up to save you after all!"
She finally released him, allowing him to back away from her, a little intimidated. She kept her narrowed eyes on him. "Might just grow up to save you after all..."
She circled him. "Some dreams die upon the vine," Poseidon tensed, thinking of his lost son in the Overworld. "Some, they never have a chance."
She paused. "Sweeter than the sweetest wine that mine becomes a king of this place!"
It was then, that her eyes became deadly. "And there's a relief you can't imagine, that fills up every sin you've owed and earned! To know you can get out of this hellhole," She clutched near her heart again, feeling all of her sins weigh down on her. "And finally live the life that you deserve. And suddenly the past you knew will haunt you!" She took a step forward, making him take one back. "And all the regret you didn't show! Might just grow up and save you after all! Might just grow up and save you!"
Snapdragon turned her full body back to her son, now eating and still chatting with the cook. "Might just grow up and save you after all!"
Snapdragon went silent for a while, but finally sang again. "What would a mother not do for her child? What lengths would a mother not go? There's a bond that exists between mother and child..." She paused for a long time before letting out a bitter laugh. "Ah, but then again,"
Snapdragon turned back to him, her eyes colder than before. She destroyed him with one line.
"How would you know?"
****************************************************
So I heard this song and for some reason, thought of this! It was going to be Cerebia originally, then I thought about Darrel about half way through but I already was too deep to turn back so I finished it! Just in case you want to know, Darrel's version was going to be talking to Cody after KrakenKid got hurt.
It's been a while since I've done a song fic so I might be rusty but I liked doing this! A nice change of pace!
Anyways, I hope you liked this! I really just wanted KrakenKid's mom to be savage and this was the best way to do that. Be sure to comment what you think, and I bid thee farewell!
