Three Wise Men
January 5. For most Hispanic and Latin countries we celebrate the Three Wise Men Eve. No, Christmas isn't over yet for us in Latin America. In fact, in Puerto Rico the holidays meet an end eight days after January 6 with the Carnival known as Las Fiestas de la Calle de San Sebastián. I don't know who this St. Sebastián is, but must be pretty important to be designated to close Christmas celebrations in the Island and to close Old San Juan Streets in his name.
The Three Wise Men are less more pretentious than Santa Claus and the only thing you need to leave overnight is grass in a box and water for the camels, but kids have a few days left only to play with the toys the Arab kings bring. That's a shame thinking that these guys travel mounting pretty slow animals compared to the modernized sleigh the bearded man dressed in red has.
But this morning I woke up early like every other normal day to brew some coffee and do laundry, from which I can infer that my wish of being a millionaire this year won't be granted either. Geez! These guys are rich, they are magicians and can't send a few gold coins to this side of the world! They might be wise, but they're cheap!
Anyway, I wish you all the best today and this new year that has just begun. No matter if you celebrate it or not, Happy Three Kings Day!!!
