Chapter 42
~Minseo~
"You're leaving."
That was the first thing Taehyung said when he walked into my room. I was told that the members were rehearsing today and won't be back until late... but Taehyung was here. I figured, either he never left or he came back early. I don't know which one it is.
"Yeah," I replied, softly as I slowly stood up from where I was packing my things. The months were finally over. My time here was over.
"You're leaving," he repeated.
I bite my lip, wondering why it was suddenly hard to breathe. "Yeah," I said.
Taehyung uncrossed his arms, letting them fall to his side, "Tell me you're joking."
"Did you think I was going stay?" I asked him, confused. "Did I ever give you that impression? I'm pretty sure I made it clear since day one that I wasn't going to stay." And I never once told him that I was going to stay.
For some reason, that made him lose his cool and I saw the annoyance in his eyes.
"Considering you and I both have unsolved business, yeah, I was hoping you'd stay and sort things out with me."
"We don't have unsolved business," I said, carefully. "I... made that clear too."
Yep. He's mad now.
"You like me and I like you," he bit off. "I made it clear that I would really want a future with you too."
"There's no future for us," I blurted.
His eyes narrowed on me and I swallowed at the intensity in them. Great. Just what I needed.
"You know there is," he shot back.
I shook my head, "No, there isn't." I won't let there be one.
Taehyung closed his eyes, inhaling deep. I figured he was trying not to lose it and I hated knowing that I was making things difficult but how can I not? This is what I really believe.
"Let me ask you something," Taehyung opened his eyes and glared at me. "Knowing how I feel, knowing what I want and knowing what kind of person I am as well as the future we could have... you're just going to walk away? You're willing to leave me?"
"Tae," I begin, hesitantly. "I—that's not really a reason for me to stay." And then I immediately regret it.
I saw the hurt flashed in his eyes before they grew cold. Ice cold.
"Right," he scowled, before turning around and giving me his back. "Leave then."
I grabbed onto his arm when he was about to walk away and Taehyung glared over his shoulder at me.
"It's important to me," I said, quietly. I wasn't going to cry in front of him but dammit, I could feel the emotions hitting me. "There's so many things I'd love to see and I don't plan to settle down with anyone for a long, long while. It doesn't matter whether I like you or not because I'm not going to lead you on and have you believe that I'm going to stay with you. I don't belong anywhere and I like it like that. I love knowing I can go anywhere I want."
Taehyung didn't answer me. At least not with words anyways. Instead, he pulled me against him and his head came down on me, his lips crushing mine as he kissed me, hard and deep. There was even a hint of desperation in his kiss too.
He broke away, breathing heavily. Then he whispered, "You've already lead me on, Minseo. You gave all the signs, telling me that you wanted me too even if you don't realise it. There is a future for us but if you don't believe that then there's nothing left for me to say."
He stepped away from me and I saw the hurt in his eyes, making it hard for me to breathe and think straight.
"You made it clear you weren't going to stay," he agreed, quietly. "But you know what, Minseo? I'd hoped your feelings for me would outweigh your thoughts about doing what you think is best for me. It didn't, did it?" Taehyung let out a shaky breath, "I let you in and believed in these feelings... only to have you break my heart in return."
Tears sting my eyes.
"It wasn't enough," he continued on, locking his eyes with me. "I wasn't enough for you to stay."
"How could you think that?" I asked, my voice cracking. "That's not—"
"That's how it feels," Taehyung cut me off, "Be well, Minseo. I hope you achieve everything you dream of."
"Taehyung," I took a step towards him, reaching for his arm once more.
But Taehyung brushed my hands away gently before giving me a small smile that didn't reach his eyes.
"I know about Kijoon," Taehyung said in a quiet voice.
I knew what he meant when he said that. He knew. How? It was something Kijoon kept to himself... But looking at Taehyung right now, I just knew that he knew Kijoon's not into women.
Immersed in this, I flinched slightly when I felt Taehyung's large hand coming to cup my face. Lifting my eyes to meet his, he swipes his thumb across my cheek. His expression... tormented.
"You didn't say a single word about it," Taehyung said, his eyes roaming my face. His tone was soft and quiet when he asked, "Does the thought of being with me disgust you that much?"
I opened my mouth to reassure him that he got it wrong but Taehyung pressed his lips against mine, kissing me slowly and gently, breaking me all over again. Maybe that's because I sensed that this was a goodbye kiss from Taehyung. I could feel him pulling away from me even though he was right in front of me.
Taehyung gently breaks the kiss, levelling to meet my eyes. "Goodbye, Minseo. Make those dreams a reality."
