1: seaweed soup
"Hae sung!"
Jungkook stomped inside my room and purposely invaded my space just because he's salty he can't get his own room like me. I threw a glare directed at him as he set his foot on my carpet with a frown on his face.
"Jin hyung's calling for you. Come to the kitchen." He said, holding a bowl of kimchi sauce to his chest. He intentionally waved the spoon in the air, "Hurry up!"
"Be careful with the spoon, you moron! You're going to stain my carpet!" I yelled at him but I ended up giving him ideas.
"Am I?" Jungkook flashed me a wide mischievous grin as he slowly held the spoon over the floor.
I squinted my eyes at him, "You wouldn't dare." My eyes followed as a drop fell almost in slow motion on the carpet then back at Jungkook's face.
"Oops. Sorry not sorry."
As soon as my feet touched the floor he came running back to the kitchen, hiding like the wuss that he is behind our eldest brother. I was burning in anger, a dark, deathly aura emitting from me as my feet thundered down the hallway to the kitchen.
"What is it this time?" Jin asked the minute he saw my face so red and my fist clenched down my sides as I persistently threw daggers at Jungkook's direction.
"Jungkook stained my carpet!!" I fumed.
"It was an accident!" Jungkook countered, shuffling closer to Jin for protection.
"It was most certainly not an accident! You did it on purpose!" I said and we began to chase each other around the kitchen. "I'm gonna kill you, Jungkook, I swear if I get my hands on you I'm-"
"There will be no killing happening in this house. Especially not on my watch." Yoongi has caught me and Jungkook even before I could finish my threat. He's the second oldest of my brothers. "You two better make up before we start Jimin's party."
I crossed my arms rebelliously across my chest and ignored Jungkook for the sake of not destroying the house; the only property our parents left us with, well that is, aside from the debts. That was the reason why my brothers had to work until their backs ached and their foot felt like they're about to fall off just to clear off the debts as well as keep custody of me and Jungkook.
I never met my parents nor did Jungkook. We were born as fraternal twins. I'm nowhere near grateful tho. Our parents passed away when we were too young to remember anything. Our older brothers told us that they may not be the best parents to their children but they weren't bad people.
"Haesung, can you buy some seaweed at the store? It seems like we ran out of it." Jin said as he checked our slowly disappearing food supply. "Jungkook go with your sister."
"No thanks. I can go alone." I told Jungkook and took the money. Jungkook imitated me behind my back thinking that I wouldn't hear but I sent him a glare and he shut his monolip immediately.
"Are you sure you can go alone? Hoseok's doing the decorations so I'll come with you." Yoongi followed me to the doorway as I put my shoes on.
"I'm not a kid. I'm turning 18. I can find the store on my own." I scowled. I'm the only girl in our household so they took really good care of me. I wasn't spoiled but more like they were careful of me, too careful.
"It's just a carpet, come on, be the bigger person this time. You'll feel much better afterwards." He added and that mad me even more mad.
"It's not just about the carpet. It's about you guys always taking his side and never listening to me." I replied, holding onto my tongue because I know how Yoongi can be real scary when we talk disrespectfully, "I'm going out now to get seaweed for Jimin's seaweed soup."
It would soon become nightfall judging from how the sky is tainted by a soft orange light. The store was just past the bridge, a mere seven minutes walk from our house. We live in the outskirts of the city because the cost of living in the city was too high for us, especially when we're a family of seven; two adults, two somewhat adults, one barely - adult who's having his birthday today - and two underaged teens. How lucky am I to be in this family?
"Hey Haesung." Junhong, the part timer I'm friends with smiled when I came in. "Out on an errand? What is it today?"
I nodded when I passed by him. I walked straight to the back and went back to the counter when I got what I needed, "Seaweed."
"Oh yeah. It's your fifth brother's birthday, right?" He beamed then went to get something from the drinks section, "Give him this from me."
"Thanks. I'll give it to him." I held the small carton box of strawberry milk in my hands and the plastic bag of dried seaweed in the other as I headed out, "Bye Junhong!"
I sighed as I kicked a little rock from the sidewalk. I took the route that would pass the ocean on my way back. The sunset colored sky looked prettier up close. I breathed the air in and felt better. The ocean has always been my go to place. In my excitement, I picked up my flip flops and ran to feel the sand between my toes and the waves against my feet.
There was a hidden place I recently found. I liked going there to just watch people sometimes. It had the best view of the sunset too so I claimed it as mine. The water around my toes was comfortably nice and since the waves were a bit rough today, there were a lot of seaweed around the shore.
"I shouldn't have wasted money when I could just pick seaweeds from here." I mumbled under my breath when I bent down to pick at a seaweed that was stuck against the rocks, "This one looks weird."
I screamed when I realized that what I just touched was a human boy's hair. He was unconscious and unbelievably naked under the water. I was covering my eyes while trying to pull him to the shore when Jungkook came running towards the direction of my voice.
"Haesung! So you were here-" He froze, eyes wide, when he found me pulling a butt naked stranger to safety, "What the fuck is that."
➿
We all stared at him sleeping and fully clothed. He was sleeping not unconscious but who in the right mind would sleep naked in the beach. Is that the new trend now?
"Maybe he was drunk last night and you know went crazy." Hoseok gestured by swirling his finger in the air across his ear.
"Or he went skinny dipping but fell asleep." Added Jimin but he soon regretted saying it when he realized it was stupid.
"But why were you there?" Namjoon turned the attention on me. My brothers began giving me suspicious looks.
"I asked you to buy seaweed but instead you take a boy home. Is this you're way of rebelling?" Jin had a disappointed expression on his face. "Is this because we didn't listen to you earlier?"
"I was just passing by! I swear! I have no idea I would find him there." I defended, comically waving my hand everywhere as I explained. "I thought it was seaweed."
"Shh! Everyone shush!" Hoseok sprayed his saliva all over Jimin's face. "He's waking up."
"Ah, your spitting!" Jimin told Hoseok, grabbing a tissue to wipe his face with.
All eyes were on the nameless boy as he opened his eyes and scanned the room unknowingly. He looked like he was dreaming or maybe it's me who's dreaming because have I mentioned how good looking he is? He looked unreal with his hair growing out and covering his soft brown eyes.
"He's sitting up." Hoseok added dramatically with a gasp.
"What are you the freaking narrator? You don't need to say everything. We have eyes you know." Jimin countered, still quite pissed about the spit spray.
The boy looked at our faces, one by one, as if memorizing how we look like. Then he slowly opened his mouth and made a sound that was loud enough for everyone to hear. He seemed surprised at the sound that came from his own mouth and he began to get excited.
"What is this?" Yoongi watched the boy in both amusement and annoyance, "Is this a joke?"
"Can you speak?" Jin asked the boy in a slow pace but he only stared at Jin in amazement.
"Can you do anything at all?" Namjoon followed up.
The boy seemed to understand as he nod his head towards him. He opened his mouth again and sang.
