I drop to my knees without thinking, my body has turned numb and yet my heart beats a thousand miles an hour in response to what just happened. She's walking away. Each step of her feet that draws further away from me pulls at my body as if we are connected by our souls, and I am being pulled away with her. I wrap my arms around myself, trying to remember the way her arms used to slip around my waist; trying to recall the feeling of her nuzzling her head into my chest; trying to hold onto the thought that at a time she loved me enough to do so.
