Jimmy Doyle has been shot and killed and the lack of hard evidence puts Nolan and Frank on a collision course.Taking the season finale episode "Black and Blue" and setting it into my "I've got your back" universe. There are spoilers in this story as I have pulled a lot of dialogue from the episode (all credit to the Law & Order writers!!), and as anyone who has seen the episode knows it dealt with a lot of hot button issues. This story is in no way intended to favor one side or the other, just as the episode didn't favor one side or the other, we the viewers just like the canon characters will never know what happened in those final moments between Kendra and Doyle. So please do not read this with any sort of political expectation. A coda set in the middle of episode 1 of series 21. Frank comes home from a long day of work to face the music after he told Nolan to Go to Hell in the courthouse.Yes, we're only one episode in and there was only a brief exchange between these characters, but something about the familiarity Nolan used when asking about Frank, and their exchange just hit me hard with ideas. It's been over a decade since I last picked up my fanfiction pen, but these two just call to me. I am reminded heavily of Frank Furillo and Joyce Davenport from Hill Street Blues. While I doubt Dick Wolf and company would ever be that progressive, I can't help picking up the Barbies to play with them a bit.…

This universe is also featured in the story "And the Band Played On" which is co-written with WritersBlock039…
