1.CHRISTOPHER MARLOWE (1564- 1593):

 - The first English dramatist and the most important Elizabethan dramatist

 - His best known works:

•Tamburlaine the Great (1950) •Edward II (1954) •The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus(1604)    •The Jew of Malta( 1633

             2.WILLIAM SHAKEPEARE( 1564- 1616)

-Playwright and poet -The greatest of all the dramatists -Shakespeare was a great humanist

His best known works:

•Romeo and Juliet: - was based on real lovers who lived in Verona, Italy, and died for each other in the year 1303 . •Hamlet: - was first printed in 1603

                  - is Shakespeare's largest drama

•Taming of the shrew( 1590-1594) 3. THE EARL OF SURREY( 1514- 1547)

-Was the first to use blank verse, unrhymed iambic pentameter

His famous works:

       - Virgil’s Aeneid II and IV 

5.SIR PHILIP SIDNEY(1552-1599)

•Initiated the sonnet cycle (courtly love poem). • •His major works:

    - Astrophel and Stella(1951): is the first English sonnet sequence on English interspersed with songs.

    - The Arcadia: is a work which has no equivalent in English literature.

    - The Old Arcadia was finished by about 1580, The New Arcadia, unfinished, was published in 1590.
