Part 4
"Call diversion", I shouted at once gaining the attention of both the men in the room.
"What's that?", asked Virat.
"Basically, if someone is busy or they are in a position where they are not able to answer calls, they can contact their mobile operator and get their calls diverted to some specified number for a certain period of time. But as technology advanced, there is this VoIP switch which can divert calls without the notice of the actual caller", before I continued Virat interrupted.
"I hope you remember that I am a cricketer and not an engineer or a reporter", said Virat with a poker face. Looking at him, I just smiled for a minute forgetting all the worries.
"Okay, let me explain. Today morning you called Anushka bhabhi but she didn't answer the call. Then you called Ro bhayya and he spoke to you the exact opposite statements which he has spoken to me just a few minutes later. Now, Dada said he called you and you refused his request wherein your phone is actually switched off. So, I feel what would have happened is someone has tapped your phone and whenever there is an incoming or outgoing call, they are using it to their benefit", I said trying to be less technical.
"Oh, you think it's possible", asked Virat not being totally convinced.
"Yes, there is this VoIP switch which can put in any caller ID number they want and that is what shows up on your phone. Your phone thinks it is your friend calling and shows their name and picture as well. I think the person who is plotting against us must either have a talented mimicry artist and a hacker with him or he himself must be multi-talented. Anyways, In the morning, when you called bhabhi, it is someone else who spoke with her saying that you wanted a divorce, then when you called Rohit, someone else spoke to you mimicking him. The same would have happened with Dada too", I completed trying to connect all the dots.
"Oh no, does Nushkie think that's me? I need to speak with her immediately", panicking Virat started dialing her number while I grabbed the phone from him.
"Cheeku, avoid using your phone. And I don't think this is the right time to talk to her. Sakshi bhabhi and Rithika are on their way to Paris, right? let's not...", before I completed the sentence, I got a call from Mahi bhai. Though I was sure that my phone was not tapped but just to be on the safe side, I cut the call and did a video call.
"Anu, tell Cheeku to leave your place right now taking away all his things. I don't want you to get into trouble because of him", said Mahi bhai with urgency evident in his voice.
"But bhai why so suddenly?", I asked not understanding anything.
"I feel he is right Anu. You would be in trouble if someone finds me here", I stopped him before he could say anything else.
"No Cheeku, you are not going anywhere", I was on the verge of crying.
"Do as I say. Virat move out immediately", shouted Mahi bhai hearing which Virat and Aman went inside to get the bags while I was just sitting there raking my brain trying to understand the reason behind Mahi bhai's sudden outburst.
"Where is Mahi bhai? In the video, it didn't seem like his house. Did he go to meet Dada? Is he hiding something? He seemed worried, who will answer my questions?", as I was lost in my thoughts, Virat's voice brought me back to my current situation.
He hugged me while I whispered something in his ear for which he just nodded and as he was about to leave the house, I called him "Virat, leave your mobile with me", hearing which he looked confused but handed it to me, "Trust me", I smiled at him and said, "see you soon".
He left and I sat down on the couch holding my head, "Lalitha, can you get me a cup of coffee, a strong one please" after she nodded, I turned towards Aman "So, Aman did you find anything about the evidence?"
"Nothing much, basically I think except the special team, nobody else seems to have any clue regarding it. They are maintaining too much confidentiality", replied Aman.
"Hmm, what about the girl who claims to be Virat's...girlfriend?", I asked gritting my teeth.
"Well, here is the video of her confession", said Aman showing me a video clip.
Before I could play it, there was someone at the door as I heard the calling bell and Lalitha after getting me my strong coffee, went to open the door and in came, three uniformed men who looked like police officers.
"Are you Ms. Ananya?", asked one of them. Placing the cup on the table, I stood up facing them and replied "Yes".
"We have got orders to take Mr. Virat Kohli into custody as he is not responding to the special team appointed by BCCI. And tracking down, his mobile was last switched on here", said the same man looking around the house.
"He is not here now", I replied coldly.
"We have got a search warrant, madam. So, please co-operate".
"Sure, the place is all yours", I said making myself comfortable on the couch and sipping my hot cup of coffee.
After a thorough search of around 30 minutes which was all in vain, they came back to me and asked: "Don't you have CCTV surveillance?"
"We do have, Aman can you please tell the security to show them the footage?", I asked Aman and he took the police out with him. After fifteen minutes, they returned back.
"He did leave the house but our tracking expert says that his mobile is here", hearing which I just shrugged my shoulders. "Call him once", ordered the police inspector.
I dialed his number without making much fuss and the mobile rang, hearing which the Inspector went towards the cupboard and found Virat's phone lying there. Looking at it, I acted to be startled and said: "Oh, I think he left his phone here itself".
"Why did he leave the house in a hurry?", asked the Inspector getting suspicious.
Without reacting much, I just replied with a poker face "I don't know, we were watching the news about Mahi bhai and then suddenly he said he wants to leave from here and he left".
The inspector glared at Aman probably trying to scare him and find out what exactly happened but he spoke in affirmative "Yes sir, he was telling that he didn't want Anu madam to get into any trouble because of him. I think he believes that Dhoni sir is pulled into all this mess because of his support to Virat sir".
"Okay, if he comes back here, do inform us. We are taking his phone with us", saying which he left from there along with the other two men. After they left,
"Aman, please go and get the detector which we use for detecting microphones and tracking chips and make sure that there aren't any in my house right now. I don't want to take any chance", I whispered to Aman and he followed my instructions.
In BCCI headquarters
"Why did you get involved in all this Mahi?", asked Dada.
"How can I leave Cheeku alone in this?", questioned back Mahi.
"I was there with him na...don't you trust me?", asked Dada looking not at all pleased.
"It's not like that Dada, I don't want Virat to feel that we all abandoned him when he needed someone by his side badly. And you know that the issue between Anushka and Virat is very sensitive and Anushka too needs someone with her to give her support, so that's why I had to send Sakshi there", replied Mahi being as calm as possible.
"When it was Virat and Anushka, it was only they both and now you and Sakshi came in making it more complicated. I hope at least the others are out of it", said Dada shaking his head.
"Yes, Sakshi sent Rithika back. And I texted Ro not to move out of Mumbai expect for the matches. I don't think they would disobey me", said Mahi feeling a little bad as he was not used to restricting his brothers for not doing something they want to.
"Good, what about Ananya? She would listen to you I suppose", Dada asked to make sure that no one else would put themselves in trouble.
"Well, if it concerned any one of us, then I am afraid she won't", replied Mahi not meeting Dada's eyes.
"As stubborn as you", said Dada not being impressed.
"That's what brought us together", smiled Mahi and continued "Dada, don't worry about her, being a crime reporter, she herself half thinks like a criminal. So, Virat is safe as long as he is with her", said Mahi feeling proud of his little sister.
"But we asked Virat to leave her house right?", asked Dada getting agitated by all this.
"By now she might have deciphered the reason behind it", replied Mahi, the smile not leaving his lips.
"Whatever, now come with me, that Sanjay wants to do some silly interrogation. Act as I have scolded you and you are upset with me", said Dada wearing his black coat back and buttoning it while walking to the soundproof solid door followed by Mahi.
In the midst, he suddenly stopped and turned towards Mahi "Where is Ziva?"
"She is with her grandparents spending some gala time", replied Mahi and a smile curved his lips remembering his little daughter and he wanted to finish this fast to get back to her.
