Chapter 4

Tabby's eyes were twitching, as a sunlight directly hit right onto his face. The light came in from a quite big hole opened on the top of the window seal.

"It's morning already!" Shouted Tabby inside.

He jumped down from the top of a big old ragged shelves as he realized how big actually the place he was put in. Tabby's mouth opened, he was amazed by how many card boxes laying around on the ground. However, it didn't take long to feel the growling inside his stomach.

"Uuuuw, I'm starvin'..."Complained Tabby.

He was so hungry. The last meal he got was a little bit of something the little girl gave him last night. Indeed he was starving but he's too nervous and scared to dig in the meal the girl was trying to give him. It was then after she left he couldn't help it but to finish everything served on a dirty plate which apparently were not enough for Tabby's big stomach. Like there was still so much space left inside as he already got used to be spoiled by mom and Timmy who often gave him extra double portion meal more than a regular cat would have.

Tabby's shiny eyes went round and round thinking how to escape from this dusty and smelly room. His eyes scanning wildly to every corner, looking for holes he could possibly get through. Then suddenly...

"Papa! Let's feed the kitty!" An excited shout was heard distinctly from somewhere outside the abandoned warehouse Tabby was locked.

"No, not this time Darling, you gotta go to school, we're late already," answered a big voice he heard from last night.

Tabby's ears stuck out. The voice of the girl alarmed him to think quickly. There was nothing more than to escape from the place lingering in his mind. The place was too dusty and dirty for him and he wasn't sure whether this little girl actually liked him or not. He did not feel it. He did not feel the vibe he usually felt when Timmy or mommy was around, or even Aunt Betty who was a genuine cat lover. He just knew it. He could sense whether a hooman loves cats or on the contrary hating them. Even from the glare and the way they called his name, in a random way. He could actually figured this things out.

The door slightly opened, a hand grabbed the plank horizontally blocked the wooden big door and they made it gradually lifted as this firm strong hand pushed it up. Then finally it fell to the ground and produced a loud 'clank' sound in the quiet early morning.

Tabby was a bit shocked and alarmed by the loud sound, he never liked loud unusual sound, it would make him jump like a scaredy cat. His eyes opened wide and round as he stared and traced the firm hand and where did it landed onto. He slid and slid quietly as if he was trying to find a way to at least hide from whomever owned the firm hand. He then finally felt that he bumped into something right on the corner of the wide damp smelly room. It was a quite small carton box enough to fit his whole body and hid it. He quickly jumped to it. And stayed there.

"Here... Kitty kitty..." A raspy voice calling, he was calling tabby.

Tabby didn't even want to answer the call. He stayed there and kept silent. The man who owned the firm hand wasn't the man he saw before. Apparently the hooman he saw the other night didn't get it. Tabby only heard him talking from outside.

"Butch, I need to take care my daughter and accompany her to school. You keep on eye on the cat okay, she's my Pumpkin's little darling."

"All right boss!," answered the man whom Tabby finally found out named Butch.

"Here... Kitty... Damn where are you furry ball?!"

"Are you sleepin' furry ball?!" Shouted the man.

He left the door opened a little while he was squatting and... As he tossed the aluminium bowl in a rude way, Tabby quickly slipped through the back of the man's behind and ran out escaping from the room.

"Hey! Oww man!! He ran away!" Shouted the man in panic.

He could not do anything but to stare the opened door. His body was too big to get up instantly.

Tabby ran and ran. He actually had no idea where to go. He just knew going ahead to the road was a bad idea. He might be hit by any vehicles passed by. So, he turned left to the thickets and disappeared by the bushes and trees behind. He almost lost his breath. Like a dog he was panting frantically and his heart beat like a hundred time faster than before. It was his first experience and he was all alone. This indoor fat tabby cat was then all alone, trembling and lost, in this small forest.
