Chapter 2
The air was so different from the inside, Tabby felt a gust of wind blew softly through his ears. It was a bit cold but refreshing. The track of his opponent disappeared as Smiley flung away and faded in the thickets.
Now all alone, he looked up to the slightly opened window seal.
The mosquito screen was torn on the edge, left the gap opened wider than before. But Tabby couldn't climb back in because the place where he went out was too far above the window's seal. He looked around,
"how can I get back in?" He thought, for he left his fresh yummy tuna unfinished and he thought he might get hungry soon.
Tabby ran to the front door, scratched the edge, and tried to give some stroke with his front paws.
"It won't do," he thought.
Tabby meowed loudly for several times, but then he remembered neither Mikey nor mom would go home soon.
He stretched and leaned to the door. He set his tail straight in full caution. The sky was getting darker, and his vision was getting clearer.
Cats couldn't differ colors but they had excellent visions and hearing ability. They could hear the sound of a dropped needle clearly. And of course, the darkness of the night was very interesting atmosphere Tabby had never experienced before.
As he looked around, Tabby could hear so many different clear sounds either from up above him and from the ground.
Tabby opened wide his ears. They went straight up as he looked around.
"Where the heck is that ugly brat?" He thought.
What he meant was Smiley the Persian black cat. Been a while he's always testing him by showing his face on the window screen outside while Tabby was inside. And this time Smiley got him.
Tabby desperately tried to find a small gap or hole where he could go back in. The yummy tuna kept lingering in his head.
Now his tummy start rumbling. He's trying to jump on the tree in front of the house. One at a time he stepped his front paws to where he could possibly landed and his round eyes widened as he was looking for any open space around the house he could possibly seen to be opened.
Tabby finally managed to find a branch which was close enough to the gap where he fell out before, he tried to climb and balanced himself on this big oak tree, he twitched his eyes to make sure whether the distance of the gap wasn't far enough for him to jump in. He stood almost on the edge of the branch, from there he could see Mikey's yellow plastic airplane he flew the other day and of course! That red rubber ball he was looking for the whole time! He widened his eyes but then shook his head,
"no! There's no time to think about this red ball" he thought.
As he prepared to jump, Tabby stretched his two front paws forward and wiggled his... butt? Do cats have butt??! Eeehhh, never mind.. He wiggled and wiggled and finally, okay! Now! He finally jumped!
Now the scene was set in a slow motion, slowly we could see Tabby Stretched his body forward and finally almost landed as he tried to reach the windows' panel. Aaaaand... missed it!!
The windows' panel was too slippery to be grabbed by his sharp paws! Tabby fell and rolled down to the bushes back to the ground and hit the picket fences and the flowers. Mom flowers! Oh no! He shook his head and body. Good thing cats has got very strong feet to land and this sense and mechanism for them to land straight on their feet, no matter how far is the distance. And Thank God it's only less than four meters away.
From the edge of his eyes he could see Winnie the cat peeking from the bushes. She is the white beautiful fluffy cat owned by their neighbor The Thomson.
"What are you looking at?!" He frowned while licking his body.
"Awww it hurts," he shrieked.
"Aaahahaha, you're so wimpy!!" Winnie laughed
"Shut up!!" Tabby exclaimed.
"Wimpy... wimpy..." teased Winnie.
"You're so annoying" sighed Tabby, left Winnie alone.
"Heeey!! You're looking for Smiley right??" Winnie shouted. But Tabby ignored her.
"Hey, I'm talking to you fart bag!" Winnie yelled.
Tabby didn't listen. He didn't care where was Smiley left. He just wanted to get back in. The tuna is waiting for him.
"I hope no one will eat it." He prayed. The last time he left his meal alone, two mice eating it clean.
Good thing mom cleaned the house from those ugly mice, so he thought his tuna was safe. His tail was lowered as he felt a bit sad for no one opened the door for him. No one listened to his miauw. Then suddenly he was distracted by a rustling sound from the bush near him. Tabby's ear stood up straight. His eyes wildly glared and searched where the sound came from.
"What is that?" mumbled Tabby.
He saw a soft long thing under the bush, and it was wiggling to the left and the right then it disappeared. Tabby jumped and tried to catch the wiggling thing but he missed it. He tried to pushed his head into the bush,
"Ah! There!" Tabby found the wiggling thing again, this time it was right in front of him. It was attached to a very big round furry creature, but Tabby still couldn't see the front part. He tried to sniff and sniff. It definitely a cat! He thought.
