Chapter Two: Tyler's Deployment

Tyler Robert Joseph, born December 1, 1988 was a very caring person. He had always loved helping others, even from a very young age. He had three younger siblings: Zack, who was two years younger, Maddy, who was four years younger, and Jay, who was 10 years younger. His parents, Kelly and Chris, both always knew Tyler was going to end up doing something that would consist of him helping others.

So when he made the announcement he enlisted in the military, it wasn't a big surprise.

The Josephs had grown up in Columbus, Ohio, but moved when Tyler was 16 to Dallas, Texas for his father's work.

Tyler had a passion for music and was highly involved in anything and everything music related since he started talking, his mother saying she would randomly hear him humming tunes when she walked by him sitting in his high chair.

But, Tyler wanted to help people, and he didn't yet know how to use music to help people. So, for the time being, he did the most meaningful thing he could think of.

He decided to risk his life fighting for his country.

His parents and siblings couldn't be more proud, but they were more than a little sad when Tyler had to leave.

"I'll see you all really soon," he promised, hugging each of his family members individually. "I love you guys. I'll write you as soon as I arrive, ok? I have all your pictures in my bag."

They all said their final goodbyes and Tyler was gone.

When he arrived, he didn't have to have his head shaved since he had already done it himself at home.

He was sent to training, those from Dallas being combined with those from Miami, Denver, Columbus, and LA.

Tyler was athletic, too.

He was the captain of the basketball team in high school since his sophomore year, and he lead his team to win state all three years. Sure, he wasn't the most muscular, but he wasn't one to be underestimated.

That's why when making selections, he was immediately one of the fifty chosen out of the thousand in attendance.

Sure, he was nervous, as anyone would be. For if one was in this group, they were immediately put out onto the battle field or at least somewhere high-risk.

But, Tyler had gone through a terrible depression between the ages of 15 and 17. He was now 19 and completely clean of self-harm.

He could do anything now.
