Arms crossed and legs resting on top of each other, a slim tall figure sat on a black wooden chair. His emotionless face scanning documents and files of different people and their personal information. He flipped through each file, nodding his head, counting one by one.

All of the files he flipped were all information of certain people who had a record of doing illegal things, with a big red stamp on the middle that marked 'terminated'.

He flipped through all the files that were resting in a neat pile on his desk and leaned back in his chair, stretching his long limbs, face showing no expression. He got up from his desk and switched the lamp off, tracing the edges of the desk with his slim finger.

Opening the door and stepping out, he shook his head in disappointment. The house was a whole mess. Knives were sticking out from the wall and piles of dirty dishes were left on the sink.

He'd have some scolding to do.

Suddenly he stopped.

He turned his head sharply, tendrils on his black flaring dangerously, sensing something.

An intruder in the forest.

In a second he was already outside of the mansion. He stepped onto the dead grass, the wind howling and swirling around him, calling out to him. He walked with no sound across the open area, reaching the dead trees.

As if on cue, one by one, the trees spreaded out, clearing way for the tall man in a dark suit. He adjusted his tie, keeping his calm even though the tendrils on his back were practically clawing out in the air.

Suddenly, faint giggling echoed throughout the forest, making him stop in his tracks. He sensed that the intruder was nearing him, so he teleported behind a tree, hiding behind it, waiting for his victim to come.

The giggling was near and he braced himself.

A (h/c) haired little girl stepped out in the clearing, unaware of her surroundings as she skipped merrily, her eyes twinkling and smile wide.

The tall figure gripped the bark of the tree tightly, before teleporting towards one of the trees slightly near the girl.

Closer.

And closer.

A startled scream escaped out of the little girl's lips as she stumbled back once he re-appeared in front of her.

The sight for the little girl was terrifying.

The tall figure who was looming over her with a blank white face that showed no emotion, arms crossed, and black tendrils almost clawing at her.

"I-I'm s-sorry!" The girl squeaked, wanting to cover her eyes from the sight but the long tendrils already wrapped around her waist, squeezing her wrists tightly as she felt being lift up in the air.

The tendrils pushed her near the tall man as the little girl watched in horror how his face tilted to the side and started forming a wide mouth with rows of sharp little teeth.

"Tell me human." A sudden voice boomed around the two.

The girl's eyes widened as she realized that the voice was talking to her telepathically.

"What are you doing, wandering alone in this scary forest? For such a young being, you've got courage, I'll admit." The voice said, chuckling.

"I-I" The girl stammered, having no words to speak.

Luckily the girl's prayers were answered when a familiar deep voice echoed throughout the forest for her response.

"Let her go.

The tall figure moved the girl to the side, although not freeing her yet. In front of him revealed one of his own killers, panting heavily, out of breath.

Eyeless Jack.

"And what makes you think—"

He was cut off as the shorter retorted back, "She's with me. Now let her go."

A loud sigh.

"One of your play-toys? I've figured you'd be better than Ben,—"

"Jack." He finished, crossing his arms and waiting for a response.

He watched as the shorter let out a sharp inhale, messing up his hair in frustration. "She's not my play-toy."

"And what is she? What's her relationship to you? You know well why normal mortals can't be allowed here.

He was mad. Furious.
But he knew better than to scold.

Jack was different, or so he thought. He was always the responsible killer in the house, taking care of the younger, and olders. He always had an explanation.

Silence.

The brown-haired boy hung his head low, not sure what to say to his boss.

The tendrils clenched tightly around the girl, earning a loud yelp from her, making the boy's head shoot up in fear and concern.

"You seem to care for her deeply. Why's that?" The tall figure observed.

"I-I don't know exactly.." The boy mumbled, fiddling with his fingers.

"Speak up boy. You know I hate mumbling." He snapped.

"She's special, okay? I-I'm not sure why. But just please let her go." The boy pleaded.

"And you think I'm going to accept this ridiculous request of yours? You didn't think twice, boy." He scoffed.

"If I'm going to allow her to live, you know she's going to babble all that nonsense to the police." He continued.

"She's not going to. I know." The boy responded, having confidence in his voice.

"Jack," he sighed. "this is ridiculous.

"Please." The boy begged.

The tall figure rubbed his forehead with frustration. "I'm giving you two weeks. Find out what she means to you, and if not, she's dead. If she tries to escape from the mansion, I'll make sure you kill her by yourself with your own hands. No excuses.

"Thanks, boss." The boy beamed.

Tendrils unwrapped around the girl's wrists, as it gently set the girl down on the ground, who ran towards the brown-haired boy, hiding behind him.

"You've got some explaining to do for the others." The tall figure warned, before suddenly disappearing in front of the two.

"..."

"J-Jwackie.." The girl mumbled, tugging at his sleeve.

"Hmm?" The boy turned around and started ruffling her hair.

"I-I'm scared.."

"Shh, it's okay." The boy mumbled back, reaching out towards the girl with his arms, engulfing her with a warm hug.

He breathed in the intoxicating strawberry smell as he felt tears staining his hoodie once again.

He sighed. "What'd I tell you about crying, huh?"

The girl let go of his arm and Jack watched as the girl's eyes twinkled with tears, her long eyelashes wet, cheeks red and wet with tears, rosy lips jutting out in a pout.

His slim grey fingers reached outwards towards the little girl's cheeks, wiping the tears away and making her head lean down, in order for him to plant a little kiss on her forehead.

He was satisfied once he heard the little girl giggle.

"Come on." He replied, standing up and extending out a hand towards the girl, who happily accepted.

He smiled as he felt the soft hand of the girl who entangled fingers with each other, seemingly fitting each other like a complete puzzle piece.

He started to walk, the girl trailing behind him as he led her through the maze of the dead trees in the heart of the forbidden forest, grey skies looming them.

And the faint strawberry scent that still lingered in the air.
