Chapter Ten - "Edge King"
I didn't really know where I was going. I had no obvious destination. I didn't have money to take a bus somewhere, so I just kept walking; running away from everything.
Maybe it's not the wisest decision. Maybe I'll get mugged, or Hazel will try and follow me (though I doubt she will, she probably thinks I'm in class). But even if it's not smart, I can't be there. At school. With those people. Not right now. I'll handle everything later. I just need to feel right now. Even if just a little.
I take in fresh air, and try to erase the color of their whistles from my mind. Purples, yellows, colors I can't describe. Usually they'd be beautiful.
Lost in my thoughts, I accidentally bump into someone.
"S-Sorry." I apologize, and look up at who I knocked.
She's a woman about my age, with dark braided hair and evident Latina heritage. Her eyes are piercing and her build is strong. Though she looks quite friendly now, she looks like the type who could go zero to one-hundred in a split second. Intimidating.
"It's fine." she assures, picking up the bag I didn't know she dropped.
"Aren't you supposed to be in class?" she nosily asks, noticing my backpack.
"Aren't you?" I retort.
"Nope! Independent studies. I'm going to the library to research the Roman Empires."
"Oh," I shrug. "Well, I better go. See you."
She waves, "Peace out, Edge King."
I clench my jaw, "Excuse me?"
She shrugs, "Just joking, sorry. Peace out."
I sigh, and we walk past each other, me grumbling. Nosy idiot.
