Chapter Eleven: Music of the Night

A/N: Thank you for the people who reads this and last of all, votes for this story. It is a great time for me to actually write something like this.

Arima Kousei POV:

Morning came so fast after I got back home from the hospital. It's strange to be back home. I had been in the hospital for weeks and I adapted to the strange, lonely atmosphere of the hospital. I know that my heart wouldn't bother me that much anymore after I had the surgery.

I had to feel fine once again. I know I can. Suddenly, I heard my phone ring. I picked it up and I saw that it was Kaori calling me. "Moshi moshi?"

"Hey! You sound depressed!" she told me. Do I really sound depressed?

"Sorry. I just got out of the hospital, anyway," I told her as I try to keep talking. My voice still feels dry, after all.

"I got some theater tickets with me. Would you care to come with me to watch Phantom of the Opera? It's also to lighten your mood," she asked me.

My eyes widened. I smiled and just by hearing her say that, I really felt happy. "Shouldn't I be the one asking you that?"

"Nope! I should be the one, not you. Again, I'll fetch you quick today, okay? I love Phantom of the Opera, you know?" she told me. "It's a yes, right?"

"Yes. It's a yes," I said to her while my lips curl happily.

...

I opened my dresser when Hikari entered my room. "Why are you busy rummaging in your dresser?"

I blushed.

I don't know how to answer my father's fiancee.

She giggled. "I've heard it. You're going on a date with Kaori, am I right?"

I nodded. "Yes. I'm choosing clothes for my date with Kaori."

"That's amazing, Kousei! Well then, I'll help you choose clothes but you must take a bath first after that you'll find the right clothes you'll have to wear," she said to me with a very big smile on her lips. "A formal suit is what you need today."

After cleaning myself as fast as I can, I wore a formal black coat and tie she chose since she said that watching a stage play like Phantom of the Opera wasn't like watching movies.

Thirty minutes later, Kaori arrived in my house wearing a glittering, white dress. She also have make up on.

She really looks elegant and beautiful. "How do I look?"

I'm speechless. I don't know what to say. She's just so beautiful in my eyes. Is this the reason why Hikari felt disappointed with me when I cried on my bed in the hospital? While I can't take my eyes off of Kaori, Hikari told her, "Of course he's stunned. Just look at him. His eyes can't take off of you!"

I blushed. She also blushed.

"Well, I don't want both of you to go there without a car. Just wait for a while, okay?" Hikari told us.

I held Kaori's hand and nodded. "Of course, Hikari-san."

"You're good in English, right?" she asked us.

English is a second language to me. My biological mom taught me that language since I was a kid. "I know it."

A silver car arrived to take us to the theaters a few minutes later. I was surprised when a chauffeur came out and asked us to enter. That's when it finally dawned on me. I remembered that I'm a member of a political family. Marrying her would give my father better chance to replace grandfather as the head of the family and the political party. I just hope that even I am sick, he'll take the position that was destined to be his. I'm sure I won't be his heir for that position, though. We both mounted the car as the chauffeur guide us in. I let Kaori in first then, I followed.

"Kousei?" Kaori called me. "I didn't know that you're actually an elite."

"Neither Watari nor Tsubaki know it. My father hid me away from our family since he believes that there's a right time when I can meet them," I informed her.

"You're going to be in Senior High, soon. Is that what you mean?"

"Yes. Are you uncomfortable with it?"

"No. Not really. I'm just happy that someone like you fell in-love with me. I hope you enjoy watching the play!"

Her eyes really are beautiful. After a few minutes, we arrived in our destination and as I have expected, there'll be a lot of rich people inside. I wonder if I'll actually get attention if I show up my face around? Like what I expected, they'd all see me and stare at me. I also heard them murmur about me.

"Isn't that Takahiko's son?"

"He's lucky to still be alive!"

"What? Is he sick?"

I want to vomit. I also felt heavy but luckily, I don't feel my chest aching while we get in the theater. Both of us sat down near the stage.

Kaori worriedly looked at me. "Are you okay?"

I smiled at her, "I'm fine. Let's just enjoy the stage play, Kaori."

Soon after, the curtain opened up and the stage play began. Phantom of the Opera, authored by Andrew Lloyd Webber. I remember that my mom loved this play too. As Kaori and I watch the play unfold, I missed my mom. I wish that she was still here with us and dad wouldn't need to marry someone else.

Still, I'm lucky that the woman whom dad's gonna marry always looked after me and really cares about me. She takes in account that I don't want to forget who my real mom is. I am excited for their wedding soon. I felt chills and I enjoyed the play so much. Kaori was correct. It really did lift my spirits up. After the stage play ended, I stood up from my seat.

Kaori also stood up from her seat and she stared at me. "Looks like you enjoyed it. I'm happy for you." She grabbed me and told me, "Let's run out before paparazzi comes!"

We ran out of the room and I realized what she means. Since I won many prizes as a kid, I had become famous and known. We soon reached our car at the second floor parking lot and we both got in fast.

"Where do you want to eat?" I asked her.

"Just in a simple restaurant. There might be no paparazzi coming to get us," she answered me. "Let's eat pizza!"

I was pretty much looking forward eating pizza with her when I felt really dizzy. I tried shaking it away but Kaori became aware of it.

She stared at me worriedly and touched my forehead. "Are you alright?"

"I'm fine," I said to her as I try hiding the pain from her.

Kaori glared at me. "Liar. You're not okay. Have you been feeling this way since we began watching the play?"

"What are you talking about, Kaori? I feel fine," I told her.

"Really?" she asked me again as the car moved but then, she told the chauffeur, "He's going home. He needs it."

"Wait. What? Why?" I was surprised by her decision.

"Why? You're blazing hot, okay? You have a fever!" she told me.

She's right. She just explained to me what's wrong with me today.

When the car got me back home, Kaori helped me get inside my home with Hikari on my side. She touched my forehead and she was shocked to know I'm having a fever. She took me from Kaori's hold and told her, "You can stay in the living room. Tell his father what's happening, okay?"

I really feel dizzy and it is surprising for me that I don't feel my heart, aching. She quickly lead me to my room and I laid back on my bed to rest.

"Kousei? Is your chest aching?" she asked me.

I took my hand closer to my chest and told her, "No. I don't feel my chest aching."

I believe she asked it since she's worried for me. I heard her breathe in relief. "I'll just go down and give you medicine, okay?" she told me.

I nodded and I closed my eyes. She returned with a medicine and a glass of water on her hand.

"Thanks." I quickly took the tablet and swallowed it.

...

The next day, I was shocked when I found out that someone took the coat off me when I was sleeping.

"Feeling better now?" my dad asked after he entered my room.

"Yes. Um, I want to apologize to her since we didn't have a dinner together yesterday in our date since I had fever."

"She knows that you are still sick, Kousei."

"It was hard to stay with me, am I right?"

"Kousei, when you were the strong one, you didn't leave her. Don't you think Kaori would do the same to you?"

"But!" I looked at my father.

"No buts, Kousei. Stop underestimating yourself and overthinking things. Kaori loves you," my dad assured me. His words made me happy and his words reassured me that the future wasn't as dark as I imagine it.
