(Hey everyone! Chapter one is finally here! I know this book was supposed to be uploaded way sooner but I explained that in the intro. Anyway enjoy the first chapter of Symmetrical.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's Oct. 28, 1984, almost one year to the date of Will Byers' and Celeste Wheelers' vanishing, which took place on Nov. 6, 1983.
Three-hundred-and-fifty-two days have passed since Eleven disappeared with a poof. Almost a year for Barb's parents to wonder where she's gone.
For Joyce to hone her helicopter parenting techniques which sadly isn't going over well. But let's start at the very beginning shall we?
After Celeste and Will got home they felt as if finally things were going back to the way they were. Celeste was gathering her quarters getting ready to hangout with her friends at the arcade, when she felt a presence and turned to see her brother standing in the doorway.
"Hey, you almost ready?" Mike asked.
"Yeah, almost done." She replied.
Mike could see the sweat dripping down her forehead, she only ever got like this when she was nervous about something. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing, Mike, I'm okay."
"Don't lie to me sis, what's up?"
Celeste sighed knowing there was no way of avoiding her brother. Because he would keep pestering her about it.
And honestly she doesn't have time for it. "I'm just nervous Mike." She said.
He walked towards her and put his hand on her shoulder, "I know but you shouldn't be. Lucas, Dustin, and Will are gonna be there so you've got nothing to worry about."
She nodded and hugged him, "Yeah, okay."
Mike waved at his sister, "C'mon, let's go."
Celeste grabbed her quarters but Mike ran to Nancy's room and dashed past her down the stairs, and ran out the door hopping on his bike while Celeste was getting on her own bike riding after hearing Nancy yell. "A**hole!"
They got to the arcade meeting up with Dustin and Lucas seeing Will getting dropped off by Ms. Byers. Then headed inside going straight to  "Dragons Lair" once they got to the game Dustin took the first turn smashing the controls with all his might.
But soon was defeated after the dragon torched him, and and he cursed out. "No! No, no, no I hate this overpriced piece of bull crap!" And proceeded to kick the machine.
"Dustin! Cut it out, stop being a big baby." said Celeste.
"You're just not nimble enough but you'll get there one day until then, Princess Daphne is still mine." said Lucas.
"Whatever I'm still tops at Centipede and Dig Dug."
"You sure about that?" The kids turned to see Keith the manager of the arcade munching on cheese curls.
"Sure, about what?" Dustin asked.
Then they ran over to both of the games with shocked looks on their faces when they saw the scores. "No! No! No!" Dustin yelled.
Will exclaimed, "751,300 points!"
"That's impossible." said Mike.
"It's insane." said Celeste. They turned back to Keith who just stood there while Dustin was pissed. "Who's MADMAX?" He asked.
"Better than you." He replied.
In retaliation Dustin flipped him off and they proceeded to argue over the mysterious Dig Dug player. "You want information I need something in return." said Keith.
They all looked towards Mike and Celeste who knew immediately what was going on and they were disgusted. "No. no, no, no way you're not getting a date with her." Mike said.
"Mike, c'mon. Just get him the date." said Lucas.
"I'm not prostituting my sister!" Mike shouted.
"But it's for a good cause!" Lucas argued.
"No don't get him the date. Know why he's gonna spread his nasty a** rash to your whole family!" Dustin exclaimed.
"Acne isn't a rash and it isn't contagious, you prepubescent wastoid." said Keith.
As the argument went on everything faded, muffled, for Celeste and Will because soon they looked off into the distance noticing something strange. And then they turned back not seeing them... their friends arguing with Keith.
"Will are you seeing what I'm seeing?" Celeste asked.
"Yeah I think so." He replied. They walked outside the dark cold arcade and saw the sky turn red and crash down red lightning. "What the heck?" Celeste said.
Soon they were snapped back to reality by none other than Mike. "Will! Celeste! Are you guys okay?"
They both looked back up at the sky and all they saw was pitch black filled with tiny glowing specks of stars. "Yeah we just needed some air." said Will.
"C'mon you're up on Dig Dug let's take that top score huh?" Mike wrapped his arms around his twin and best friend taking them back inside. That was weird but nonetheless confusing.
The next day it was back to school, Celeste saw Will open his locker looking down at something so she walked up to him. Wondering what he was holding. "You okay?" She asked.
Will tried hiding the note but it was no use Celeste already saw it he looked down at his feet not to meet her gaze. "Will I already saw what you're holding there's no point in hiding it."
Celeste held out her hand and Will gave her the note. "Have you been getting these too?" He asked.
"Yeah ever since we came back." She replied.
"Does Mike know?"
"No he doesn't, and I'd like to keep it that way he doesn't need to worry about me more than he already does. But c'mon, we gotta get to class."
They headed to class and sat down as Mr. Clarke was teaching his lesson, the principal came in and there was a girl with fiery red hair and electric blue eyes.
"Ah, this must be our new student." said Mr. Clarke.
"Indeed all yours." said the principal.
The girl tried walking to her seat, but Mr. Clarke stopped her. Celeste felt bad because obviously Mr. Clarke wasn't like other teachers. He's the best teacher out there in her opinion. "All right. Hold up. You don't get away that easy come on up. Don't be shy." Mr. Clarke halted the girl.
"Dustin, drum roll." Dustin proceeded to use his book and drumroll as Mr. Clarke was introducing the mystery girl that had Celeste intrigued.
"Class, please welcome, all the way from sunny California, the latest passenger to join us on our curiosity voyage, Maxine."
"It's Max." The girl interrupted.
"Sorry?" Mr. Clarke apologized.
"Nobody calls me Maxine. It's Max."
"Mad Max." Dustin whispered.
At recess the boys and Celeste watched Max in awe but were contemplating on going and talking to her. "There's no way that's Mad Max." said Mike.
"Yeah. Girls don't play video games." said Will.
"Now that's stereotypical William." said Celeste.
"S-sorry Celeste." Will apologized.
"It's okay Willow tree." She whispered into Will's ear causing his face to turn red. (I swear Will & Celeste are my babies that have all of my heart 🥺.)
"And even if they did, You can't get 750,000 points on Dig Dug."
"Again that's stereotypical, I'm a girl and I play video games, don't make me slap you upside your head Michael!"
Mike apologized, "Sorry sis."
Celeste rolled her eyes typical boys she thought Max was rather interesting to Celeste as she was a girl who seemed to play by her own rules and no bull was gonna stop her and she thought it was tubular.
"It's impossible." Mike said.
"So what?" Lucas asked.
"So, how many Maxes do you know?" Lucas retorted.
"I don't know." Mike replied.
Lucas concluded. "Zero. That's how many."
"She shows up at school the day after someone with her same name breaks our top score. I mean, you kidding me?" said Dustin.
"Exactly! So she's gotta be Mad Max." Lucas agreed.
"And plus she skateboards, so she's pretty awesome." said Dustin.
"Awesome? You haven't even spoken a word to her!" Mike exclaimed.
"I don't have to. I mean, look at her. Shoot, I've lost the target." As the boys were frantically looking for Max, Celeste had already spotted her, but didn't say a word cause of the stupidity of her friends and brother.
"Oh! There." said Will seeing Max climb up the stairs leading to the inside of school. After Max threw something away in the garbage the boys ran to the can with Celeste walking slowly behind them.
"Got it! There we go." said Dustin after he found what Max threw away.
He unfolded the piece of paper and they read in unison. "Stop spying on me, creeps."
"Well, crap." said Dustin.
After a few seconds the principal came to the boys and Celeste. "William Byers. Your mother's here."
Will looked at Celeste with a feared expression on his face, every time he had to do this Celeste always went with him that was the deal they made. It made Will feel at ease and for Celeste, she felt good knowing she and Will both were getting the help they needed.
"You guys think he's okay?" Dustin asked.
"He's always weird when he has to go in. But I don't know. He's quiet today." Lucas  replied.
"He's always quiet." Mike said.
On the drive Will sat in the front passenger seat and Celeste sat in the back behind Joyce so she could squeeze his hand to let him know she's here ever since they came back.
No matter where she went, Celeste became paranoid looking back to see if the demogorgan was there ready to pounce and tear her limb from limb.
"You feeling any better? Will?" Joyce called out.
Will stopped his mind from going all over the place. "Huh? Yeah. Yeah, sorry."
"Hey. What did we talk about, huh? You've got to stop it with the sorries."
Will was flustered. "Sorry. I mean, yeah, I know."
"And listen, you know, there's nothing to be nervous about, you know. Just tell 'em what you felt last night and what you saw."
Celeste grabbed Will's hand. "Hey, we're gonna be there the whole time." Joyce said.
"So it's gonna be okay. Okay?" Joyce concluded.
"Okay." Will told his mom.
After the appointment Celeste thought it was weird that Will didn't tell Dr. Owens she was there with him too maybe they were seeing different things?
No she saw it too what if Will was trying to protect her? He's always been brave like that, putting others before himself. But in Celeste's mind it's only raising more questions than answers.
Joyce dropped Celeste off back at her house and she went straight into her room she knew at this time Mike would be calling El on his walkie.
So she decided not to bother him the way he talked about El. She knew he missed her from all the stories he told her, Celeste always said El seemed so amazing, even though she's never met her, she still thought she was cool.
(Alright guys how was that for the first chapter? Hope you all enjoyed!)
