Shannon was the Arcadia high schools nerd girl she got perfect grades she was a member of nearly every academic club at school and she did tutoring as a part-time job because she was saving up to go to a expensive college after high school. With all this on her plate she barely had enough time to make friends but she didn't really mind if she was always thinking about the future and in her future friends would only slow her down that was in her opinion although it was possible that she wouldn't have minded having friends in this particular incident she found herself in

It was late at night and she was on her Home after tutoring someone in her class that was struggling with the science of biology, The tutoring session went on longer than expected and by the time it was finished it was already very late. Shannon would've loved to call one of her parents to pick her up but both of them were away on a business trip it would've been pointless to even call them so she decided with all the braveness in her heart to walk back home in the night

The journey started out okay for the first 10 minutes but as she got further and further into town she felt like she was being watched and every time she turned her head around to see if there was anyone else around she always got a quick glimpse of a shadow just outside her field of vision that would vanish within a second

This caused her to speed up a bit every so often as her anxiousness was getting worse She kept getting faster and faster with every time she turned around until it evolved into a full on sprint of course it wasn't that fast since she wasn't that athletic but I didn't I didn't matter to her she felt like she was in danger she had to do something

As she ran down the street as fast as she could holding onto her bags filled with books and noise that she sent shivers down her spine could be heard it was a howl but it wasn't a normal howl , It was too loud for it to be from a stray or a wolf and it was to animal like for it to be someone playing a prank. Shannon started to shake as she felt the sense of fear washing over her she turned like a robot behind her and that's when she saw something that made her shake with terror

About 5o m down the road in a single lamp light they stood a creature, it was too far away for Shannon to get a proper look at it but she could tell it wasn't human it was twice the size of any average person and judging by its fingers it had claws really big ones

Shannon checked in she dropped everything and just bolted down the road screaming her head off hoping that someone was here, She could hear the monster chasing her it sounded like it was on all fours it was roaming at the mouth which only scared her even more she turned down one alleyway hoping to lose it but that's only insured her fate . She ran into a dead end. In her panic she desperately looking for a way out of the dead-end but there was nothing nothing but stone she then tried to go out the way she came but it was too late the shadow of the creature was closing in... she screamed

Luckily for school nerd A white knight in shining armour was out and about that night, Jim and streak were walking around around town at a late hour because they were trying to find new parts to make themselves a new motorbike considering how they left what was left of the old one back in another dimension. But you always having some luck finding some scrap parts they could reuse but nothing to rebuild an entire motorbike it was just about to call it quits when they heard the scream, When they did they jumped immediately into action and using streaks slim form they jumped to the top of the buildings and headed for the source of the screen but by the time they reached it the creature that was responsible for the attack was already gone and Shannon what is left in a rough state

Her clothes were torn filled with blood stains and car markings all over her body and there was a singular bite mark crossed her arm, Jim checked for a pulse she was still alive but she was losing a lot of blood and she was in bad shape

Jim picking her up: can you heal her?

Streak disagreed: no I'm not a miracle healer I can only heal you if I tried to heal her there's no telling what damage I would do to her DNA we might end up making it worse we might just have to leave this to the hospital

Jim agreeing with the statement: all right let's go to the hospital give me some extra strength of my feet we won't have time to call an ambulance

With the extra speed he got from his symbiote Jim managed to make it to the hospital with in two minutes even though it was on the other side of town, because his mother was there he played in his performance and pretended like he was completely out of breath and after handing Shannon to the doctors and then sitting down in the waiting room still pretending that he was out of breath while contemplating what attacked the girl

Jim speaking to his symbiote in his head: A clause and white mark symbolising a dog or maybe a wolf if she was being chased by one of those why not just go into a building there were still some shops open on her route home

Streak was also brainstorming: yeah and it doesn't make sense why would the wolf or whatever it is suddenly just vanished before we even got there no animals going to leave its pray at least not without taking a proper bite

Jim had a theory: could it have been a symbiote that was weaker than you and when sensed our presents it just ran?

Streak: Unlikely Only one symbiote is technically we can then me and if it was venom he would've stayed and attacked, Not to Mention some symbiote still like to play with their food but not to this extent they wouldn't just attack her leave her with cuts  and bite they would eat her hole after they were done playing

Jim had to agree from the little he knew about other symbiote and from his running with carnage he knew that symbiont aren't wasteful they always eat every inch of their meal with and the fact that women would just leave their food was unthinkable it just didn't make sense it didn't match up with the way Symbiote behaved

The brainstorming pair was interrupted by nine other than Barbara Lake who came up to her son holding a chart: honey before I ask you any questions about the girl that you brought in I want to know what you were doing out so late

Jim decided to tell tell the truth at least a part of it: okay don't be mad but I was looking for parts for my motorbike ... You see it's broken and it needs repairs so I was out and about trying to find some I wasn't planning on being out that late I promise it's just I lost track of time. I was actually on my way back when I came across Shannon

Barbara raised an eyebrow at her son: you know her?

Jim rubbing the back of his head: Not exactly She's in my class but we've never really spoken she's always so busy apparently she does tutoring part-time maybe that's what she was doing on the way back before she got attacked by whatever that was

Barbara seem to accept the answer from her son and she couldn't imagine him he just save the girls life: alright but I don't want you going out or staying out this late again understood?

Jim nodded: yes Mum again I'm sorry I'll make sure I get home on a proper time

Barbara noted accepting that as an apology: well other than that you did good you got her to the hospital just in time if you lost any more blood I don't wanna think what could've happened, do you have any idea what could've done this Jim did you get a good look?

The boy shook his head: no by the time I got to wear shoe wise whatever cause it was already gone I didn't see any footprints and again I was more focused on her anything else

Barbara sat down on the charge: okay even though it's really unlikely but do you have any idea who may want to have done this to that poor girl

Jim shrugged: honestly I don't know like I said I I don't really know her I don't even think we've actually had a conversation before. Is she going to be okay?

Barbara: it's unclear as of now luckily none of the cuts that she received a very deep but there were a lot of them she's lost a lot of blood, the bite mark on her arm went down deep as well she's going to have a scar, quite honestly it's lucky she's even alive right now you are right to run her here honey I don't think she would've made it if an ambulance came to pick her up

Jim smirked: well I guess all that running around has really started to pay off, but now that you mention it can I get a ride home I am really tired

Barbara smiled: of course honey I was gonna go on a break anyway I'll be happy to give you a ride home it's the least I can do you just save A life

After a few minutes Barbara took her son home in her car, it was a relatively quiet short drive mainly because Jim and streak was still contemplating what creature could've those things to eat Arcadia nerd girl

Jim's point of view

The next day in class

It's technically only been a couple of hours since Shannon was attack but the information has already been spread all across the school and of course once again we are a main source of attention since we saved her, I don't know what the big deal was we just did what anyone should do in that situation honestly out of all the accomplishments this is the one I don't think I should be priced for

Streak speaking to me telepathically: well it doesn't hurt to get some more popularity

I agree with him on that regard but getting popularity because I saved someone's life isn't really something I'm trying to get: you're right but I just don't think I should be popular but doing something and I think anybody should do in that situation, besides I'm still trying to think about what could've possibly attacked her I mean it just doesn't make any sense all the animals that have claws and teeth either wouldn't attack humans or would've finished the job and not just run away leaving the poor girl half dead

Streak agreed with me: yeah that's bugging me to it just doesn't make any sense for starters what was it doing in the town anyway animals usually stay away from towns what was one doing in a town at night and why on earth when you go after a human because I'm pretty sure Shannon couldn't of provoked it wouldn't of anyway she's too smart for that

Jim saw the point: yeah you're right something else is going on here and I don't like it

The girl suddenly spin around to me Mary with a wide smile: well look who it is the hero once again, can you go through one day without saving someone?

I respond: it wasn't really much of a saving I just got it to the hospital honestly I did what anyone could do and what everyone should do, what I'm really concerned about was what caused the injuries

Darci: oh yeah I heard about that my dad is actually looking into that he thinks it's some sort of stray dog that's got rabies or something... But you don't think that's the case do you

I repeat one streak a sentence he can't show himself while we're in class: well streaks says that it doesn't make any sense, even if the animal got spooked when it sensed our presence I decided to run off it didn't take a bite out of Shannon it just slashed her around and bitter once that's not normal animal behaviour usually if an animal attack something it's either wants to kill the target or it wants food

Claire agreed: he's right it doesn't sound like normal animal behaviour besides what would it be doing in town anyway rules don't come into town they don't even come close to it jim right something else is going on here do you think it's got something to do with Strickler?

I shake my head I just doesn't make any sense: no for starters why would Strickler creature attack Shannon other people why not me what one of you, Shannon isn't even someone I've talked to why target her? Regardless I think we should all be on our guard just in case who knows when Strickler will strike again

The girls nodded, and then Mary spoke: hey actually that reminds me I haven't seen Nari in a while where is she?

I answer her question: Nari Is in the forest on the outskirts of Arcadia she's making a secret base and a home for her self out there, it's just in case something bad happens and we're forced to evacuate are you a safer location

Darci: damn Jim you're really taking this whole thing to heart

Where is true I might be overreacting just a bit but check with how big the Janice order really is there's no telling what they're capable of so I figured it's best to be prepared

Claire asked: so any word from our little gnome spy friend?

Oh no, she's been asking this for the past few weeks now ever since we sent Chomsky into the Darklands I know she's impatient to save her brother but we have to be patient our very way of life depends on it

I shake my head: no but don't worry Claire you'll be back eventually we will save your brother I promise, we just have to be careful. We just save the trolls by keeping the bridge close to think about what they'll do to us if they find out we want to open it

Mary looking at Claire: he has a point

Claire doesn't seem to accept that answer unfortunately: but Jim this is my brother, not to mention not a bricky is driving me and my mum nuts do you have any idea how many times we have to change him he knows how to use the toilet he chooses the diaper

They all nod as they turn back around because classes Or about to begin as Coach walks in filling in for Mr Strickland mysterious "absence" . Unless thinking about the girls that sit in front of me

Streak chimes in on my mind: so who parents are you going to try and get in first?

After school was over we arrived under the bridge and Claire was about to do the honours of opening the portal

She seemed nervous so I decided to ask: are you sure about this?

Claire responded: if this helps me get my baby brother back I'm willing to do whatever it takes

Mary and Darc both not in agreement, i'm happy that they're all on the same page but I just need to remind them: alright then but just remember rescuing your brother is our little secret they cannot know what we plan to do not yet anyway

Girls once again nod and Claire draws the semicircle opening the portal allowing us to walk into the entrance of the crystal staircase, the minute that the girls see it they immediately raced down almost leaving me behind

Claire nodded as she began to run down the crystal staircase: don't worry I'll try to-
