Chapter Three - Finding Help

After the Citadel Council refused to send aid to Galauna, Ilana and Lance along with Octus followed Anderson, Shepard and Councilor Udina along with two other Alliance Soldiers.

Anderson: Ilana, this is Staff Lieutenant Kaidan Alenko and Gunnery Chief Ashley Williams.

Ilana: A pleasure to make your acquaintance. The heart, body and mind. Join as one. Salutations.

Kaidan and Ashley looked at Ilana with confused looks on their faces. Even Shepard was confused by this. It wasn't long before Ambassador Udina arrived.

Udina: It was a mistake bringing you in the hearing, Captain. You and Saren have too much history. It made the Council question our motives.

Anderson: I know Saren. He's working with the Geth for one reason: to exterminate the entire Human Race. Eden Prime and Galaluna are only the beginning. Every colony is we have is at risk! Every world we control is in danger! Even Earth isn't safe!

Lance: To hell with the Council! Saren needs to be stopped. If the Council won't do anything about Saren, then we will!

Anderson: Going after Saren won't be easy. He's one of the Citadel's top Spectres.

Udina: And going after him without sufficient evidence will make advancing Humanity's interests more difficult.

Ilana: Not to mention that it will further weaken our case for aid to Galaluna.

Shepard: What's our next step?

Udina: As a Spectre, he's virtually unstoppable. We need to expose him.

As Udina posed that task upon the others, Kaidan spoke up.

Kaidan: What about Garrus, that C-Sec investigator? We saw him arguing with the executor.

Ashley: That's right! He was asking for more time to finish his report. Seems like he was close to finding something on Saren.

Shepard: Any idea where we could find him?

Udina: I have a contact in C-Sec who can help us track him down. His name is Harkin.

Anderson: Forget it. They suspended Harkin last month. Drinking on the job. I wouldn't waste my time with that loser.

Udina: You won't have to. I don't want the Council using your past history with Saren as an excuse to ignore anything we turn up. Shepard will handle this.

Shepard: I'll take care of it.

Lance: I'll join you.

Ilana: As will I.

Lance: Absolutely not! It's too dangerous!

Anderson: The corporal is right, Ilana. I have no doubt that Saren will see you and Shepard as a major threat and will do everything in his power to kill you. The embassy is the safest place for you. Even Saren wouldn't dare touch you here or else lose his Spectre status.

Ilana didn't want to wait on the sidelines. But she thought of her people. While she wanted to do more, she ultimately agreed that staying at the Human Embassy was the safest place on the Citadel.

Ilana: Octus, go with Lance and the Commander.

Octus: But my orders are to keep you safe.

Ilana: And I am giving you new ones. Captain Anderson is more than capable of protecting me.

Octus: Understood.

Lance: Then let's get going. Where can we find Harkin?

Anderson: Harkin's probably getting drunk at Chora's Den. It's a dingy little club in the lower sector of the wards.

Shepard: Are there any other leads we could follow in case Harkin proves to be a dead end?

Anderson: You could talk to Barla Von over in the Financial District. Rumor has it that he's an agent of the Shadow Broker.

Ashely: The Shadow Broker?

Octus: The alias of an unidentified information deal who buys and sells secrets to the highest bidder.

Shepard: I should go.

With that, Lance and Octus joined Commander Shepard, Kaiden and Ashley in their mission to find Harkin to get information on Garrus's whereabouts. As they left the office, Udina turned to Anderson.

Udina: I need to take care of some business. Meet me in my office later.

As Udina left, Anderson turned to Ilana who was visibly distraught.

Anderson: I'm....I'm sorry about what happened to Galaluna, Ilana.

Ilana: It...it was horrible, Uncle David! The Mutraddi and the Geth attacked without warning. I...I was overseeing the opening of a new school when they attacked. I....I was so scared....

Anderson: I can't imagine, Ilana.

Ilana: I...I worry for my father, Uncle David. He's still on Galaluna! What if he gets capture? What if he....

Ilana was on the verge of tears when Anderson hugged Ilana to comfort her. Ilana tightly hugged the man who was a close friend of her father as she cried.

Anderson: I...I know it's hard, Ilana. But your father stayed behind to give the people hope. He sent you away to do the same thing. Your father is one of the bravest men I've ever had the honor of knowing. And you...you're the most precious thing in his life. He sent you away not only to protect you, but because he has faith that you can get Galaluna the help it needs.

As Anderson attempted to comfort Ilana, Ilana looked out at the balcony of the Human Embassy and into the Presidium of the Citadel. Immediately, Ilana saw flashes of Galaluna burning. Ilana backed away in fear before Anderson comforted her.

Anderson: It's okay, Ilana. You're safe here. Nothing will happen to you. I promise.

Ilana: T...thank you, Uncle David.

As Ilana hugged Anderson, the Alliance Captain took a deep breath. He felt sadness for Ilana's situation. He could only hope that Shepard's attempt to expose Saren would convince the Council to send aid to Galaluna. For now, all they could do was wait. But what Ilana didn't know was that events would be set in motion within the Citadel that would test Ilana's resolve.
