[SILVER RAYNE WILLIAMS]
I JOLTED awake at the sound of the door slamming open, sitting up in the bathtub, waves washing off me as I gasped for a breath, coughing out the side from my full submersion.
It was the only thing that had made me feel stable- seated at the bottom of the tub, covered in water from head to toe in my own cocooned reality.
The only way to deal with my panic attacks. I hadn't had a panic attack in a long while, but after what happened a few hours ago, my heart rate seemed to have spiked incredibly.
"Vella!" I heard mom call.
"Leave me alone!"
My eyebrows arched at the exchange. Quickly stepping out of the bath. I wrapped a robe around myself and a towel around my hair, walking into the bedroom, eyebrows drawn to the sight before me.
Tears were rushing down Vella's face, as she yelled at my mom.
"I don't want you here! Go. Away!" She yelled-
"Vella, Sweetheart, it's not a big deal," mom was trying to ease in, though her voice sounded strained.
"Vel?" I called.
Vella's eyes flashed to me, immediately running towards me for safety, her shaky arms wrapping around my waist and I held her close as she cried against my robe whilst I stared on in confusion.
My gaze trailed up to my mom, still holding my sister close.
"What happened?" I asked eyes on her.
She let out a breath, massaging her forehead, one hand on her waist, "I-It's nothing, she was dancing, and then she fell."
"She was dancing?" I echoed, eyes widening at the statement. My arm wrapped around my sister protectively.
"Yes, she uh, she danced with Hunter," mom confessed, her tone sounding misplaced as she took a breath out.
"I-I didn't want to," Silver sobbed, peering up at me, "I told her no, that I didn't want to dance but she said I had to."
My eyes flashed to my mom, and she rolled her eyes, shaking her head.
"It wasn't a big deal Vella, you liked it didn't you?"
"Liar!" She screeched, her watery eyes trailing to me, stepping back for a moment as her fiery eyes trailed to my mother.
"I told you I didn't want it! I hated it, and I hate him! I don't want him close to me! Y-you forced me to dance with him and then I.." her bottom lip quivered, "then I fell," she sniffed glancing up at me, "in front of everyone."
My eyes widened at this; mouth slightly open at the revelation. My heart thudded wildly within my chest, a feeling I never thought I could experience creeping within me as I stared at my mom.
Betrayal and hurt were what echoed through me at the moment.
"You made her do what?" I gritted out slowly, gaze narrowing on her, fury growing within me.
Her eyes held mine, her breath short and quaint, before offering me a smile, shaking her head.
"It's not a big deal, Silver, it was just one simple dance with Hunter. I didn't think anything bad was going to happen. She's such a natural dancer-"
"I don't care what you thought it would be or what you think she is," I gritted out, "I told you she shouldn't dance. She didn't want to dance."
She paused at what I assumed was the utter tone of anger in my voice, pursing her lips once more, before her eyes trained down to Vella, crouching down to her level, searching for her eyes with a small smile.
"Vella, Honey? It wasn't even a bad fall, you just tripped," she explained softly, Vella peering out, looking quite uncertain whilst mom prodded on.
"And it happens, okay? There's nothing to be ashamed of, absolutely nothing," she eased, reaching out to touch her.
Vella's eyebrows arched but I caught her wrist before she could.
"Don't. Touch. My. sister." I hissed, anger shifting through me,
Mom's gaze flashed up to me from her kneeling position and my grip tightened around her wrist.
"You don't get to control how she feels." I gritted out as her eyes widened.
After holding her stare for a moment, I pushed her hand away, releasing her, bending down to Vella's Level.
"Give us a moment, will you Vel?" I eased, gently tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear, and tapping her chin.
She sniffed but nodded, glancing at Eden then walked to the bathroom and closed the door behind her. I watched as my mom followed Vella's movements, slowly getting up to her feet.
Her eyes shifted to me, pursing her lips momentarily, "How did you-"
"Know what your strike is?" I finished, my chest burning in fury, "that's what you want to ask right now? That's what's important to you?!" I heaved.
"How Stupid do you think I am?" I grunted-
"Silver—"
I watched her furiously before glancing at the door again, shaking my head, "If you must know, you're not as sleek as you think, Eden. I noticed it first at the dinner, with Lord Valcon. Frankly, it didn't work too well, then did it? But it worked fine on Oran... and then on me," I gritted out, eyes flashing back to her, pursing my lips.
"You can't control me, Eden, you don't know me, and you must be damned out of your mind if you think I'll sit back and let you control Vella!"
Eden took out another breath, her eyes dropping to the floor in defeat before looking back up at me.
"I was wrong, I can admit that. But I wasn't using my strike to hurt you. Every time I did, I was just trying to help you- you're my daughter, Silver. I wanted you to feel safe and loved," she stated, a hand on her heart.
"And Vella? Do you even care how she feels? Because your actions tonight weren't very convincing, Eden."
"Hunter wanted to dance with her, " she explained her hands dropping to her side, "you have to understand, it's hard for him-"
"I DON'T CARE ABOUT HUNTER!" I yelled out, my tone harsher than I intended but necessary.
"You think I care about your son, Eden?" My eyebrows arched at the statement, "Vella is my top priority right now, nothing and absolutely no one else comes even close."
Her eyes searched mine.
"I know you want to protect Vella and I do too; I've been in her place, and I know she feels-"
"No, no, no, you don't get to say that every time," I replied, shaking my head, "you don't know anything about her. And you most certainly do not want to protect Vella. Your actions tonight have made it pretty clear Hunters your priority. If you truly understood her, you would have respected her wishes! She clearly said she didn't want to dance! How dare you come here and pretend you care about her, about us. When all this is just for Hunter!"
"That is not true! I'm trying Silver, I truly am, " she stressed, letting out a deep breath, her eyes trailing to the ceiling, "I missed you for so many years!" She pressed, "I wondered where you were if you and your father were okay but I also have a son and I just can't abandon him."
I paused at this, tears stinging the back of my eyes, "why would you when it's so easy to abandon me?"
She froze at this, "Hold on now, that is not fair." she gritted.
I marched passed her, opening the door wide for her, "Leave-" you can't be around us anymore. I clearly can't trust you."
Her eyes met mine, holding my gaze for a minute.
Her eyes flashed to Vella who was peeking from the bathroom, closing it softly upon eye contact.
She let out a soft sigh.
"I did not mean to make you feel betrayed. It was bad reasoning on my part. I am your mother, but I am not perfect. I do make mistakes. Bad ones evidently" she confessed, placing her hands in front of her with a calm breath.
"I'll leave, and give you some time, but you're my daughter Silver, whether you like it in this instant or not and I want you to know, that I would never, ever abandon any of my children willingly unless I simply had no choice."
With that, she took her to leave, whispering a soft goodnight, before closing the door quietly behind her.
I let out a short breath, pressing the bridge of my nose, trying to pull back the sting beneath my eyes.
"S-silver?"
My gaze shot up to my sister, letting out a loose breath whilst forming a smile. I opened up my arms for her.
"C'mon Vel, let's get you out of that dress."

After Vella took a bath, we sat by the large bed as I brushed through her curls, humming softly and we giggled telling each other memories of home.
I was trying to get her to forget about what happened and I think I was helping.
She didn't seem to want to talk about it and I wasn't going to push her until she was ready.
What she needed right now was a sense of normalcy.
Sister time.
"I think I saw you at the ball," she suddenly stated, turning slightly to glance at me.
I grinned at this, "did you now?"
She nodded, eyebrows arching.
"Up on the balconies, you were wearing that dress, the one from the dinner," she added.
"I wouldn't have recognized you if it weren't for it, you look different without your glasses on all the time."
I gasped at this, squeezing her shoulders as she turned.
"What? Do I normally look four-eyed and cross-eyed?" I asked, crossing my eyes and making a silly face.
She chuckled at this, a light returning in her eyes as I proceeded to brush her hair.
"How did you get in?"
I hummed, pulling her hair together, "Dad and I have secrets."
She nodded at this stifling a knowing chuckle before her lips suddenly pursed.
"A-and the man you were dancing with. I only watched for a second, before hunter...." she trailed off, turning to me, "was it Lord Graydon?" She asked, her eyebrows dancing suggestively.
I froze at this for a moment as images flashed in my head, moments I was trying to suppress.
I turned her back around, though my fingers were shaking as I gathered her hair up.
"It was just a random lord, I had to dance to fit in," I replied, "and no- there's is nothing going on between Lord Graydon and me," I gagged.
"I know you hate the Fang," she began, "but he is pretty."
"All Fang are pretty," I commented, "and none can be truly trusted. You remember that" I cautioned.
She nodded at this, letting out a soft breath.
"Can Eden be trusted?"
I paused as this, staring into nothingness for a moment, "For now, you can trust me Vel. We only have each other."
She nodded, and I grinned, "all done."
She smiled as she stood up, and we pulled the covers down, getting ready for bed. We cuddled and I heard her take out a soft sigh.
"I hope Dad's doing alright."
My thoughts lingered back to my father pursing my lips, "He is struggling, probably covered from head to foot in a random formula."
She chuckled at this as if picturing the sight. "He probably has red stains all over his lab coat," she added with a large smile.
"Certainly," I grinned, "But you know what? I think he's doing okay."
She turned to me, eyes searching mine.
"He'll find us again, right? Dad never breaks his promises."
My gaze lingered on her hopeful ones.
I smiled at her softly, "he never does, does he?"
———————-
A hard knock at the door jolted me awake for the second time.
My hair was a wild mess and drool covered my bottom lip as I lazily scratched at my scalp, rubbing the dry drool off.
I glanced at Vella who was still sleeping peacefully beside me, tucked to the chin in lofty white sheets.
My eyebrow arched at the sound of the violent knock again.
Getting out of bed, with a low grumble, I grabbed my glasses off the table, and slipped into my night slippers, yawning as I moved toward the door, adjusting my robe.
Before I opened it, I slapped my face to give it a bit more life, rubbing my jaw.
A blue guard stood before me with a package in hand, bowing lowly.
"My Lady," he began, before standing to his full height. I awaited his reason as he spoke.
"Lady Vella Easter Veridian and Miss Silver Rayne Williams are requested to be in attendance at breakfast with his Majesty, King Drake Alistair Veridian, Her Highness, Queen Syria Cantor Veridian, His Grace and His high lady, Lord Valcon Von Veridian, Lady Eden Grace Veridian, their heir, Lord Hunter Silvon Veridian, Lord Select, Lord Graydon Westwood Collins, and Sir Eldon Isniv Shan."
I was staring blankly at him as we went through the platter of names, and handed me the package.
"You are to wear this for the royal meet, courtesy of Lady Eden. Breakfast will be had in an hour in the Everest Dining hall."
With that, he poshly bowed once more, before moving away and I watched him disappear down the hallway, still confused before I closed the door robotically.
My eyes dashed down to the package, as the news finally settled in from my morning lazy haze, my fingers running cold- WAIT.
Breakfast with the King and Queen?
