Chapter 1: Plague
Nightwhisper's Courage
An outbreak of Taken Plague had swamped over Woodburrow Village a few days ago. Nightwhisper was the only survivor. Everyone else had died except him. Some said it was his courage and bravery but others said it was luck.
Nightwhisper blinked open his blue eyes weakly and saw the plague doctor: Osprey carrying him. The hooked beak on his mask reminded him how lucky he was to live. No one knew who exactly brought the plague into the village but, everyone suspected Tiger so he was exiled.
"You are very lucky that you survived." Osprey grunted, sounding a lot older. The old cat was supposed to be retired but refused and even challenged the new chief: Pike!
What a rude badger! Nightwhisper thought. The furless cat took him to his den. His apprentice: Forest greeted him. The young Persian purred and looked at the wolf.
"You're free to go!" She exclaimed. Nightwhisper smiled, he couldn't help but grin at the lime cat.
"Thanks!" He said, wagging his tail. Osprey rolled his eyes and muttered something under his breath. He sat the wolf down and Nightwhisper excitedly walked out into the fresh air.
"Oh how I've missed fresh air! Being cooped up and sick in a den really dampers your mood!" He exclaimed. Pike grinned at him.
"Hey buddy! You're finally out!" The young chief purred, patting his back. Nightwhisper smiled and wagged his tail at his best friend.
"Yep! It feels so good to not smell medicine all the time!" He exclaimed. Nightwhisper frowned when he remembered that his parents were one of the many that died from the Taken Plague. But he then shook it off, that was in the past and he had to focus on the now.
"Whelp, I'm going to go for a walk! See you later buddy!" Nightwhisper said. Pike waved farewell and the young wolf skipped into the woods that Woodburrow was famous for. He stopped when he saw Mount Snowden in the distance, he had always wanted to go there. His parents were from there after all.
One day I'm going to go up that mountain and start a Blacksmith shop there! Nightwhisper thought. It had been his lifelong dream to follow in his father's pawsteps. Since he was dead, his apprentice: Minty took over the shop.
The wolf knew a few things about metalworking from his father but knew that would get him far.
