ARMS Motion Controls Review
Motion controls are often criticized for being clunky and unresponsive, mainly in just about every Wii game the utilized them. But what about in ARM's case? After all it's using very developed technology, the Joycons go at around $80 for a pair. So just how good are these motion controls? Well let's find out.
First of all it is incredibly fun to throw the punches yourself and I love playing with them on casual. It's so satisfying to use my rush and throw a ton of punches all at once. They are very responsive. When you punch they punch and you can even turn your ARMs in separate directions instead of them both going whatever way you direct the joystick with a controller.
I found that they work incredibly well and always do everything I wanted them to do. The only real problem is jumping and dodging. They feel out of place since you have to hit buttons to preform them though I understand why, there was no way to keep the motions simple while also having jumping and dodging being motions.
But other than that they're actually really good and may even be better than the controller is some rights because you feel more in control and immersed and you can control you ARMs better than with the joystick. Unfortunately you don't seem to be able to remap the motions so punching blocks and grabbing punches. It's too bad because that would be so much fun and probably make a good YouTube challenge.
But I decided to undertake a completely different challenge. With motion controls on against CPUs I handed my mom one of the controllers and we fought the CPU with one controller each. It was a complete disaster but a ton of fun too and I encourage everyone with a copy of arms and a willing partner to try it. We won a whole two times playing as Byte and Barq.
So honestly that's it, there isn't much to say other than that they work great and can make for some really funny moments. Also everyone should try punching with the rush, it's incredible.
I give the ARMs motion controls a 6/7 with a little to be desired in jumping and dodging but an incredibly solid control option overall. And who knows, maybe this could lead into a Skyward Sword Port to the Switch.
That would be so cool! Swinging your sword with one Joycon and using the shield with the other, man I really want that. Just image how well it'll be received with incredibly responsive and reliable motion controls and some tweaks to gameplay like removing all the backtracking and making traveling on Loftwing fun!
OK but really, that's all for now. Thanks for reading and have a great day! Bye!
