Chapter 2
Kotomi’s POV
I woke up with a pounding headache ramming through my head. I cringed but kept my eyes closed as I lifted my hand to place on my throbbing head, wishing the pain to go away.
“Ouch. What the hell happened?” I questioned softly to myself.
The headache was slowly starting to fade, but came back full force as an obnoxious male voice sounded out next to me.
“Haruhi you’re awake!” I heard it yell. “I’m so happy you’re okay!”
I snapped my eyes open and shot up in the bed I was currently sitting on. I slowly turned my head in the direction of the unfamiliar voice only to come face-to-face with a tall blonde boy with violet eyes.
We both sat there in silence with him smiling at me and everything registering in my mind.
Then it clicked in my mind. I was in a room I didn’t recognize. With a boy, that seems strangely familiar, that I didn’t know. Alone.
I let out a loud scream and kicked him in the chest, causing him to fall backwards and tumble into a wall.
I quickly crawled to the corner of the bed and gripped the bed sheet tightly to my chest as I watched the blonde man sit up straight and look at me with a shocked and confused expression.
“What’s the matter Haruhi? Oh my gosh are you hurt, is my darling daughter in pain?!” He questioned.
“Who…?” I trailed off on my question, my mind becoming fuzzy as I desperately struggled to hang onto the consciousness that had just recently returned.
“Hmm? What was that?” The blonde questioned.
“Who… are you?” I managed to choke out as my strength gave out and I fell on my side on my bed.
Just before my vision went out I saw five other guys run into the room. Then I realized where I had seen them before.
They were the Ouran high school host club.
Haruhi’s POV
I let out a low groan as my consciousness came back to me. My head was killing me and the frantic noises around me didn’t help. I was getting ready to yell at the guys for being so obnoxious, but when I opened my eyes I saw that I was in the back of an ambulance with some brunette lady holding my hand and the paramedics wrapping my head.
I looked over at the woman cautiously as she didn’t notice I was awake and was staring off into space.
“Who…?” I tried to question, but it came out raspy as my throat was very dry.
The woman snapped her head towards me and her eyes shown with relief as small tears came to her eyes.
“Oh honey, you’re awake!” The lady exclaimed. “I’m so happy you’re okay.”
“Who ar…?” I tried to question again, still confused on who the woman was.
“What is it sweetie?” She asked, leaning closer to hear me.
“Who… are you?” I finally got out, before blacking out again.
Third POV
Both girls woke up at the same time before looking around the black room and making eye contact with each other. Haruhi stared at the long-haired girl in confusion while Kotomi stared at the brunette host in utter shock and disbelief.
“U-um,” Kotomi stuttered. “Do you happen to know where we are?”
“No. By the way who are you?” Haruhi asked.
“I’m Kotomi Shinashi; it’s nice to meet you.” Kotomi greeted.
“It’s nice to meet you too. I’m Haruhi Fujioka.” Haruhi said back, shaking Kotomi’s hand.
As their hands touched a sharp pain went through both girls’ hands and their vision blurred.
When their vision came back they found themselves looking at something unexpected.
Themselves.
“Y-you look like me!” Kotomi stuttered out in shock.
“And you look like me,” Haruhi stated.
“What is going on!?” Kotomi exclaimed. She then looked at the ground and took a frightened step back.
“Oh my god.” Haruhi said as she looked down.
“Mikala, I’m going to kill you!” Kotomi shouted up at the never ending black ceiling.
The girls were standing there staring at the floor, staring at the mark that lay printed there.
It was a large, glowing, black magic sign.
“Who is Mikala?” Haruhi asked.
Kotomi opened her mouth to speak but was cut off as the black magic sign began to glow brighter before it formed a movie screen and began to play something.
Kotomi was shocked to see that the things playing on the screen was all her memories with Mikala since she had met her.
The first memory was when she had met Mikala on the first day of 7th grade. She had met Mikala through another classmate who was showing Mikala around since she was new to the school.
“Hey Kotomi!” Shouted a voice from the screen as it showed a small blonde girl run up to screen Kotomi with a girl with blonde hair that was dyed red at the end.
Screen Kotomi (I’ll just call her ‘SK’) turned to where she heard her name being called.
She turned around to see Kiki, one of her classmates, stopping in front of her.
“Hey Kiki. What do you want?” SK questioned.
“This is the new student, I was wondering if you could show her around for me. I have some homework I have to make up.” Kiki pleaded, gesturing to the blonde haired girl behind her.
SK thought about it for a second before shrugging her shoulders. “Sure, I don’t see why not.”
“Oh thank you, thank you, thank you!” She exclaimed before running in the opposite direction.
SK smiled at the new girl and held out her hand. “Hi, my name is Kotomi Shinashi. It’s nice to meet you.”
The other girl smiled back and shook her hand. “My name is Mikala Uchida; it’s nice to meet you too!”
“Mikala? Isn’t that an American name?” SK asked.
“Yeah! My mom is American, so my little brother and I have American names.” Mikala answered.
“Oh cool! Well come on I’ll show you around!” SK said, picking up her backpack and throwing it on one shoulder.
“Hey is that a Naruto keychain?” Mikala asked, pointing to the leaf village sign key chain hanging from SK’s backpack.
“Yeah! You watch Naruto?” SK asked excitedly.
“Of course! It’s one of my favorite animes!” Mikala exclaimed.
They then proceeded to walk away and talk animatedly about themselves and anime.
The screen then went white and started playing through all of Kotomi’s memories with Mikala including the resent ones. Except for some reason it never showed the times when they had watched ‘Ouran high school host club’ together.
“What was that?” Haruhi asked after it all ended.
“Those… were all my memories with my best friend Mikala Uchida.” Kotomi answered, still staring at the blank screen.
“But how did it do that, and why?” Kotomi questioned.
The screen suddenly lit up again and words appeared on it. It read,
‘The reason I am able to see your memories is because your souls are connected to this place, and the why is simple. It’s all part of the switch.’
“The switch?” Haruhi pondered.
“I think it means how we switched bodies.” Kotomi stated still staring at the words on the screen.
Haruhi then turned back to the screen and asked, “Why did we switch bodies?”
More words appeared on the screen.
‘It is to show you all how important you all are to each other.’
You all? Kotomi thought as the screen changed again.
‘I will now show you all of both of your memories.’
The screen went white before more of Kotomi’s memories started playing.
It played all of her memories. From her 5th birthday to he father leaving her and her mother to meeting her boyfriend to now.
Kotomi teared up at some of the sadder memories but laughed and smiled at some of the happier and funnier ones.
Once Kotomi’s memories were done it immediately started playing Haruhi’s.
It played all of them, from her 5th birthday to her mother’s death to meeting the hosts to now.
Haruhi had stood there staring at the screen, giving a small smile every once in a while at a good memory.
After all the memories were played the black magic sign started glowing and two notebooks with white black magic signs on the front came up from the ground. The screen then put up another message on it.
‘If you ever want to speak to each other after you wake up, just write in those notebooks and the words will appear on the other persons. It’s time for you to wake up now, try to see how long it will take your friends to notice that you’re not who you look like.’
The two girls bent down and picked up the notebooks.
“How do we switch back?” Haruhi asked.
The screen lit up. ‘Good luck.’
“Wai-!” Kotomi tried to halt the screen, but it was too late.
They woke up.
